  1. About the milk, ice-cream, cheese.... in addition to what Rosie said about the enzymes, cheese doesn't have very much lactose. Lactose is the milk sugar and that is what your body doesn't have the enzymes to digest. A hard cheese might only have .2 grams of sugar (lactose) and a cup of skim milk has 12 grams of sugar. Generally, the less fat a dairy product has in it, the more lactose it is going to have. I am lactose intolerant too. I am perfectly fine with cheese, I only have a problem with milk (skim milk is the worst). There is a product out there that can supposedly cure lactose intolerance. You completely avoid dairy for something like 40 days and during that time you take these special probiotics to "heal" the gut. It's intriguing and gets pretty good reviews but I can't seem to find a 'good' time to avoid dairy for 40 days.:tongue_smilie:
  2. Thanks for the article. My first teaching job was in Weston! Just thinking about the Phelp's people protesting at funerals brings tears to my eyes. Soooo much hate.:crying:
  3. Exactly, I know that is what people are thinking.
  4. I think we're going tomorrow. I'm glad to hear that it is good
  5. Exactly, when we lived there, we NEVER opened our windows (partly because DH's asthma and allergies were so bad there). Our A/C is on right now but I will open the house pretty soon and hopefully we'll be done with the A/C until May.
  6. I just googled and found him. I don't really know anything about him but the tattoo does look just like one of the pictures in google images.
  7. DH and I grew up in Nebraska and lived in Kansas City for 9 years before we moved here. The heat here is NOTHING like the heat in NE/MO. I was in NE for 5 days this summer in July, UGH, I forgot how bad it can be, I did not cope well with the sauna heat, my family thought it was pretty funny.:tongue_smilie: The coast is really nice and it's not often that you get hot over there. My BIL lives on the Central Coast, I love his weather.
  8. I think it was only 80 here today (Valencia) and it's supposed to be cooler tomorrow and on Sunday, the high is only supposed to be 67 . I love it when it is 65-75. Overall, I think this fall has been better than normal, I start to get grumpy when it's the end of Oct./beginning of Nov and I can't even wear jeans or long sleeves. We went to Disneyland on Wednesday and I think the high was 97 there, it was pretty warm but it wasn't ridiculously hot.
  9. Well, I don't really have anything to add because that's pretty much exactly how I feel about it. I have almost entirely abandoned the K12 Math. We are doing Math Mammoth 1 and Right Start A and playing RS Math Games. We're on the waiting list for another local charter school and as soon as they have an opening for us (probably not until next school year) we are leaving CAVA.
  10. Many, many years ago (you know.... before kids ;)) my DH would sometimes call me "kitten". So when I joined my first internet forum, 10+ years ago, I used kitten + 18 (my birthday is on the 18th of a month). I don't really like it anymore but I keep using it anyway :001_rolleyes:.
  11. I didn't vote in your poll because we haven't gotten that far yet. In school, I was taught to not put a comma before 'and'.
  12. Giving this a bump. My DH's business partner got this on his computer yesterday. I think he got it off, but I don't know how.
  13. Exactly, I was picturing a 20 year old college student, not a 44 year old woman.
  14. I voted for all of them. My favorite is Asparagus. Least favorite is peas, great if they're fresh, o.k. frozen, I won't eat canned peas.
  15. I'm really sorry about your day. :grouphug: I did just have my first root canal 3 weeks ago and it was a breeze, seriously not a big deal AT ALL. Good Luck.
  16. I'm so sorry, I don't have any advice.:grouphug: I have lost both of my parents in the last 3 years. I think it was a blessing for us that we lost our Dad first because while it was really hard on my Mom, she was able to cope and manage day to day life. I don't know what we would have done with my Dad if my Mom had gone first, he would have been a mess.
  17. We really like the Hooked on Phonics readers. The K level books are great for kids sounding out CVC words. I would look for them used.
  18. DD is 7, she got an AG doll last year for her birthday (6th bday), she's getting another in a few weeks for a combo bday/christmas present from MIL when they come to visit for Thanksgiving (we're going to the AG store and having tea at the Cafe). I'm pretty sure this won't be her last AG doll.
  19. :iagree: I have the Brother 2140. I LOVE it, it's the only printer I use. I bought it last year at Staples in August and it was only about $60. I have 2 inkjet printers that I just hate, I'm ready to throw them out. I know eventually (maybe next year before school starts) I'm going to buy a color laser printer.
  20. I would skip the 2nd wedding. It seems to me, that if you plan your wedding for the week before Christmas, that some people (like the ones that have to drive 6 hours) will not be able to make it.
