Rod and Staff A-F then CLE KII, add picture book read alouds. Then you are done!

Has anyone else seen or tried these lectures to accompany Wheelock's Latin? https://www.udemy.com/wheelock_latin/ Super affordable. Considering it for self-ed.

I haven't used MP. I moved 2nd DD who could read CVC words into the 2nd half of LTR. We started with 106 and it worked great! The rest of the phonics are mostly in LA 1 and 2, so that is something to consider as well. We really like CLE, DD 3 is currently using LTR (from the beginning) and we plan to keep using it with all our children.

If you really don't want to let go I the vocab and comprehension activities, CLE Reading combines them (and others) nicely. 2-3x per week. Open and go.

What are you doing for 7th grade?
SnMomof7 replied to momto2Cs's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
Well. It was a tough year. We only covered 40-50% of what we wanted to (depending on subject area). DD studied a bit and still passed up to the next level of her core subjects. Whew. As much as I want to teach her writing this year, I've decided that might not be realistic. Art has become very self directed, she's been very inspired. A Beka's too many parts scared me off, back to what I know works. Bible: CLE Bible finish 600 then 700, Sunday School verses and papers, PBS Language Arts: CLE LA 700, CLE Reading 700, Rod and Staff Spelling finish 6, then start 7 (I can't wait, it's a word roots study in the context of spelling.) Math: CLE 500/600 History: Finish Geography: Province to Province, then Notgrass Adam to Us (if that flops ACE Career Studies 7) Science: ACE 7 Writing: Essentials in Writing 7 Logic: Fallacy Detective Art: Self-directed Xtramath Typing And our beefed up morning time where I plan to hit...at least once in a while...all of the goodies like art and music appreciation etc. Still editing! Dropping spelling after we finish 6th and starting Getting Started With Latin! -
What are you doing for 7th grade?

Indeed. ;) I installed it a couple of months ago! Success!! -
Does your child read for pleasure? I don't count free reading as school time. :)

Thomas Ernest Seton has some awesome (public domain so check Librivox) animal stories that are like biographies. Sort of involved for a 5-yo if you consider complexity, but all my littles have loved them. Especially the bear one on Librivix - awesome reader. Owls in the Family is also hilarious :). Another vote for My Father's Dragon.

EIW - Daily Lesson Time
SnMomof7 replied to SnMomof7's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
Excellent, I ordered it tonight. Zebra, most of the samples I've seen say between 130-150 daily lessons. To me, that is close to a full year. Definitely more than one semester. -
CLE Language Arts 100 or Explode the Code?
SnMomof7 replied to Wholesomemomma's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Have you seen the scope and sequence? https://www.clp.org/documents/5748/original/2015-2016_Elementary_Scope_and_Sequence.pdf See page 15. It will tell you what exactly is taught in each LU :). It doesn't teach the very basic phonics leading up to CVC fluency. Phonics instruction also continues into grade 2. -

Thanks so much :). -
How log does EIW take to do daily in level 7? Thanks!

7th grade math program? Non-mathy child
SnMomof7 replied to Gwenny's topic in Logic Stage & Middle Grade Challenges
I would go for CLE. Placement tests first! My oldest DD isn't mathy either. We started CLE with the 200 in 4th. We lost a lot of ground with mastery programs with not enough review. She'll be using the 500s this year for 7th. We never managed to accelerate, but that's ok. Her confidence and ability is worth so much more than the numbers on the books. -
CLE Language Arts 100 or Explode the Code?
SnMomof7 replied to Wholesomemomma's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
CLE LA 100 teaches diacritical markings from scratch. It doesn't require any previous knowledge :). It is awesome for phonics review! -
Move to CLE and you're done :). We took a detour to MM after MUS and are finally so happy with CLE. It's enough, it's comprehensive, it gets done and done well.

CLE Language Arts 100 or Explode the Code?
SnMomof7 replied to Wholesomemomma's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Can this child already read? CLE LA 100 assumes at least CVC reading skills. It's very good (we use it alongside and after LTR). I've never used Explode the Code though. -
Memory Work for Dummies

Definitely look up Mystie at Simply Convivial. We will be using a binder system inspired by hers this year :). -
Moms of 4 or more, what math do you use?
SnMomof7 replied to vaquitita's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
We've been using CLE for 3 years with success. I now have 7 kiddos. I plan to keep using it :). Love it! Spiral, independent, effective. -
CLE vs. FLL/WWE: ___ is not for you if....
SnMomof7 replied to dauphin's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Which grade? Grade 1 is designed to cover around 75% of a school year, so the light units are shorter. Other grades are designed to take 170 days, 17/LU generally. -
Do you ever feel like a failure?
SnMomof7 replied to Based on Faith Academy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
At the end of the year? When I have to write progress reports for the government? Oh, yes. Daily. Then I realize I need to reread Lies Homeschooling Moms Believe. And hug my babies. And thank God for them. R -
Do you do any kind of Morning Routine or Circle Time?
SnMomof7 replied to EKT's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
In past we have done: praying, hymn, scripture memory, read aloud. That's sort of a bare minimum plan. I'm planning a beefed up version this year. The Simply Convivial blog has been an inspiration and (very very loosely, mostly mindset about content and scheduling) the AO folks. -
We've tried both LA offerings. Worktexts seem to get done better than texts for LA here, so we use CLE. It also includes penmanship and spelling, Rod and Staff English doesn't.

We add Southern Ocean to the end of Continents and Oceans when we sing it. Easy to sneak in there.

Are these grammar diagrams correct?
SnMomof7 replied to Mommy22alyns's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
It looks good to me? I'm not an expert though ;). 'The' is an adjective describing the widow. Articles are adjectives. Here it is answering the question 'which one'. We use CLE for LA.
