  1. Check out Spelling You See. It's made all the difference for my son Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  2. Hey mama. I know this post is old but was wondering how you fared with DDwS and then moving to Spelling Wisdom. This is the path I was looking to take with my boys. :) And did you ever write that blog post about DDwS? ;)
  3. My son has done WWE1 in 2nd grade, WWE2 in 3rd grade, and is currently halfway through WWE3 in 4th grade. He has narration and dictation skills down pat by now. I'm debating switching him over to CAP W&R now or just waiting till next year for 5th grade. Opinions? In either case, which book would he start in W&R?
  4. Anyone care to share their list of Sonlight readers/readalouds that they used with SOTW volume 2?? This is what I have so far... Medieval/Early Renaissance (400-1600) Grammar Stage (Gr. 1-4) - Medieval A Grain of Rice - Pittman SLC (Ancient China) The Apple and the Arrow - Buff SLC (Wiliam Tell) The Usborne Time Traveler (Medieval & Viking sections) SL1 The Viking Adventure - Bulla SL2 Eric the Red & Leif the Lucky - Schiller SL2 (Vikings) Marco Polo - Graves SL3-5 (middle ages) A Door in the Wall - De Angelli SL2 (Plague) The Sword in the Tree - Bulla SL2 (Middle Ages - King Arthur) The Minstrel in the Tower - Skurzinsky SL1 (Middle Ages) Castle Diary - Platt SL2 Michaelangelo - Stanley SL2 Good Queen Bess - Stanley SL2 The Explorer's News - Johnstone SL2 Tales of Robin Hood - Allan SL2 Incas, Aztecs & Mayans - Holzmann SL3 The Secret of the Andes - Clark SL3 (Incas) The Corn Grows Ripe - Rhoads SL3 (Mayas) Walk the World's Rim - Baker SL3 (16th cent Cabeza de Vaca) North American Indians - Gorsline SL3 Pedro's Journal - Conrad SL3 (Columbus) The Story of the USA Book 1: Explorers and Settlers - Escher SL3 This is for 2nd and 4th graders... Any MUST-HAVES that I may be missing? I'm aiming for 1 book (or two if they're short) per chapter of SOTW.
  5. I'm looking at this for next year with my rising 3rd and 5th graders (and tagalong 1st grader). I've searched and read other posts on Wayfarers but would love to hear more about this specific time period, how long it takes each day, etc... and thoughts on the curric overall.
  6. I'd say modify it however you need to! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  7. Spelling You See. Improved my son's spelling dramatically! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  8. I teach the new material to my 2nd and 4th grade boys and then turn them loose to do the rest of the lesson. Only takes a few min for each child, and I want to make sure they understand it first. This is for both math and LA Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  9. I'd love to hear how you all implement Reading 400 (or any level that's only 5 LUs per year), other than the "normal" way. How many times per week? Do you just buy the TG and read and answer questions orally? Do you do the reading and both LU lessons for that story all at once? Any other ways? I'm all ears for specifics! 10. Awesome. I plan to use Map Skills For Today alongside it to cover map skills Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  11. Did you feel like a lot was learned/retained (esp by your older student)? Did you buy print or PDF?
  12. I'm seriously considering using this with my 2nd and 4th graders this year. Specifically the Europe volume. I've searched the forum and found some who were trying it a few years ago but no recent reviews...
