  1. We will be using Skoldo French 1 this fall. I would consider it light and fun.
  2. Lisa, This has stuck with me so I have to ask. :tongue_smilie: Have you made arrangements for your ds to participate in some sort of human body dissection program? Are you dissecting a model of a human? Are you dissecting animals as a representation of body systems? Or something else completely? :D
  3. I hope this is our final plan as I have already gathered most of the materials. :D English - Lingua Mater 7, Galore Park SYRWTL English 3, The Creative Writer Literature - Excellence in Literature Level 1 History - Galore Park SYRWTL History Books 1 & 2, Teaching Company DVDs - The Vikings, additional reading list Math - Saxon 76, Life of Fred Decimals and Percents Science - online 7th grade class (FLVS) and TOPS Rocks and Minerals (for lab) Spanish - Breaking the Spanish Barrier 1 (first half) Music - online Music Theory 2 class (CLAA) guitar and piano lessons Art - Phonics of Drawing, Mapping the World with Art
  4. I would use OM5 with both. The program is easily a sixth grade program if you add in some additional reading. There is already a list of suggested additional readings at the end of some of the lessons.
  5. Linda's Used Books is having a 50% off sale right down. There are lots of good history and lit books on her site. The downside - she only accepts checks. But, I've been purchasing from her for years and I've never been disappointed in quality, customer service or packaging. I do not work for her nor do I receive any compensation, monetary or otherwise, for this message or any sales she makes (nor do any of my family members or anyone else I know) - I just thought some people might want to know about the sale. :D

  7. I believe the OP is currently in 10th grade and giving a summary of what she took in 8th and 9th grade.
  8. American Girl Magic School Bus Miss Pickerell Time Warp Trio Childhood of Famous Americans
  9. Thanks. I will look into all of these suggestions.
  10. Our new plan  is to save Biology for 10th grade. Dd is now planning to take four online classes through FLVS. She will not have texts and a major problem with these classes (in my opinion) is the lack of assigned reading - no context. So we'd love suggestions in order to put together a 10-12 book list to read and discuss only, that will help tie these four classes together (and are interesting to read.) Science - AP Environmental Science History - AP Human Geography Elective - Anthropology (.5 credit fall) Elective - Sociology (.5 credit spring) Possibilities already on my shelves: Guns, Germs and Steel Material World Hungry Planet Poor People Sand County Almanac Rachel Carson books
  11. I'm sure it is just an older system. I've had it for ten years and bought it used even then. Level 1 is K, 2 and 3 are 1st grade, 4 and 5 are second grade. I also have the HOP SRA power reading set that we use after the 5 levels. My dd 8 is currently about halfway through the set (there are 100) so it takes us approximately two more years to finish those.
  12. Pitterpatter - Here's a link to Phonics of Drawing at Rainbow Resource. HOP is Hooked on Phonics. I don't really schedule typing as a class. :) On Saturdays (usually every second or third Saturday) I have the kids take a timed typing test - the one on Typing Instructor for Kids - and write down their wpm score. They each have to reach a certain wpm goal by the end of the school year. I have a chart that they can look at through the year to check their progress. For my first grader it will be 20 wpm by the end of first grade.
  13. First Grade this fall: Latin - letters and Roman numerals Music - Themes to Remember Art - Phonics of Drawing Math - Singapore 1 A/B, Saxon 1B, LOF A and B Science - TOPS (Primary Lentils, Get a Grip, Electricity, Perfect Balance,) and Burgess Bird Book French - Skoldo French 1 English - HOP 4 and 5, HOP Second Grade workbook, Pentime 1B handwriting, Read alouds History - GP Junior History 1, online Chronology class, read alouds Typing - Typing Instructor for Kids
  14. Florida State University offers a degree in English with a focus on editing. Here is their list of required classes.
  15. Time 4 Learning I've never used, but many people like it. I think it is about $20.00 a month and can be canceled any time. I can't imagine buying a bunch of books for just a couple of months unless she needs remedial work. The school might also loan her the books she is currently using until the end of the school year.
  16. Could I ask a couple of questions? Which level are you using? How many lessons does it include? How long does each lesson take? Have you heard whether or not there will be additional levels? (I couldn't find any email address or I would have emailed these questions to the author.) Thanks!
  17. current 8th grader - Kolbe Ancient Greek Literature and online Great Books class 8th grade plan for next dd - combo of Excellence in Literature and Kolbe Jr. High Literature
  18. Could he spend the year taking classes that would make him a better prospect to the selection board next year? Is he reapplying to the speech program too? I don't know what classes they would like to see, but the rad tech program would probably like to see Anatomy I and II, Medical Terminology, higher math classes, gerontology, etc.
  19. Thanks. I like having tests available too and I do think it will encourage my dd to study more effectively. I'm going to go ahead and purchase them.
  20. Eckerd and Rollins both offer a 3/2 in engineering. It is something my eldest dd is considering.
