For some reason I have it in my mind that I read somewhere there were IEW writing classes offered online. I have search here and also tried googling it with no luck. Is there a class that exists or did I just dream this??

Is anyone else here anti-social??
TCoppock replied to TCoppock's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I know it probably doesn't make sense to many people but I prefer being alone quiet in my thoughts, reading a book, or searching for information online. -
I honestly have no friends IRL and don't really feel like making any. There are about 1-2 people at work that I talk to but NEVER speak to them outside of my job. I am not a very talkative person and making conversation or even being in places where I might have to potentially speak to others is VERY stressful to me. Even having to hear other chatting tends it irritate me. (the noise not the fact that others are social) My family actually harasses me all the time about not answering my phone or emails. I have been diagnosed with social anxiety disorder and am wondering if that is just pinned on anyone who is an introvert. Does anyone else here feel the way I do?? Funny thing is my job requires me to have interaction with people and that doesn't bother me at all. It is more teaching then actual chit-chat. Sorry for rambling. This is just a random thought that keeps going through my head.

bloggers with 5th-8th graders?
TCoppock replied to dragons in the flower bed's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I have a 5th grader but am not hip enough to have a blog.:tongue_smilie: I don't know how people have time to actually homeschool, do neat things, AND talk about it. I love browsing certain blogs but they are mainly about food and cooking. I am becoming very domestic lately and it is showing in my search engine. -
I agree with the previous poster. The best book to start with is The Total Money Makeover. We also have an irregular income and what works best for us is to work off of the previous months income. This only works though if you are able to save one month to start with. We started after taxes which really helped. We also do not use actual envelopes but I develop a spreadsheet each month and keep all recipes.

Day 1: We read the passage, Pretest, go over the spelling rule, and do 5 times each incorrect Day 2: Page 1 Day 3: Page 2 Day 4: Page 3 Day 5: Test and 10 times each incorrect. This is out 3rd year using SWO and this schedule is perfect for us. If I had 4 to teach I might scatter start days for new lessons.

What's for dinner?
TCoppock replied to Tree House Academy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
http://savvysuzieblog.blogspot.com/2009/03/menu-plan-monday-march-16th-09.html I love the cabbage recipes on this site. They are super easy. We don't eat red meat or pork so we substitute or leave out the meat and it still turns out great. -

Argh - public school mishap
TCoppock replied to JennifersLost's topic in General Education Discussion Board
 I love your response! When people question me I tell them I'm the toughest teacher DS has ever had. We school year round and he is pushed. I make sure DS understands he must try HIS best. In regular school all he tries for is the lowest possible work to maintain an A. When he was in 2nd grade he had already figured out how many problems he was able to miss and still get an A. We remediate incorrect problems so no trying for minimum in my home. Hope your DS enjoys his year off this year. -
I guess there is one in every crowd
TCoppock replied to Moxie's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm sorry, but I think it is more rude to push someone out of the group because they do not have email. That said, I think there is a difference between someone who doesn't have internet access at home and someone who just refuses to take the time to look at there's. I think a 2 minute phone call to say tonight we will be meeting at XYZ isn't too much to ask. I'm another who doesn't have TV, FB, Twitter, etc. I have a phone and basic internet access. -
Need Help! Quick! Bread Not Rising
TCoppock replied to TCoppock's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Thanks so much! I will try and warm mine a little and see if it works. :001_smile: -
I placed my bread in the bread machine following directions but my bread is not rising. I'm not sure what to do. This is the first time this has ever happened and I hate to throw the entire loaf out. Is there any way of fixing this??

I guess I'm the odd one here. We do all the written work and the worksheets. (not on the same day) When we initially switched from Shurley to R&S DS was upset about the writing, but now he actually enjoys R&S and rarely complains. The reviews are probably the longest assignments in the chapter and I will allow 2 days if needed. On average R&S takes about 45min-1hour per day, including review and instructions. I do not feel it is too much, but there is an adjustment period.

Which Saxon level is generally used for 6th grade?
TCoppock replied to momee's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I believe most 6th graders use 76. DS is in 5th and will be doing 65 and part of 76 this year. -
When do you buy school materials?
TCoppock replied to Mrs. Readsalot's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I tend to purchase supplies throughout the year. -
How does your hospital treat older nurses?
TCoppock replied to MaryCatherine's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We don't treat our older nurses any differently than we do all the others. That said, our hospital does offer PRN positions where nurses, of any age, can work as little as 2-12 hour shifts. I'm not so sure it would be fair to base a job on age alone. There are many older nurses that I work with that have had less education and hospital experience than younger ones that went straight into nursing following high school. I have no issues with allowing shorter shifts, but they need to be offered to everyone no just a select few. I see this could lead to a slippery slope. I find it more cruel to give the new nurse the difficult patients than the experienced nurse. Do you have nursing assistants that help with the turning and equipment to lift patients? -
Zojirushi bread machines
TCoppock replied to teachermom2834's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love my Zo. I bake 1-2 loaves of bread a week and have yet to have any problems. I'm not sure what the complaints are but maybe they are expecting bread to look like the factory made store brand. My bread is never perfectly shaped but always tastes fine. I think it is worth the price. -
Technology and higher learning - discussion.....
TCoppock replied to Joanne's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think if writing out notes is working for you then that is what you should stick with. I have also been in classroom that do not allow any technology including laptops and tape records. I wouldn't buy a laptop specifically use in the classroom but rather for college in general. -
What Did You Forget To Buy?
TCoppock replied to Saille's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I forgot about 3-4 books that I need for MFW. I purchased the program early last year and always meant to purchase the books later. Well I was putting everything together and realized we were missing pieces. :glare: I'm sure there are more things I've forgot but haven't noticed yet. -

WHat is your medication philosoply and why?
TCoppock replied to TravelingChris's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We medicate only when NEEDED. I have nothing against prescription or OTC medication, except for the fact that the consumers has pushed many Drs. to over prescribe. I personally do not think medication ads should be plastered all over the TV, newspapers, etc. We are NOT going to be asking our Dr. about XYZ (new medication). -
Swim Team Moms (with boys) -- New Question
TCoppock replied to Mogster's topic in General Education Discussion Board
DS does NOT use the locker room to rinse and change. However, he does have to walk through it to leave the pool deck. He has not mentioned anything out of the ordinary and knows he is to go directly through it, no stopping. I am sure most would consider me over-protective but I am a part of the better safe than sorry camp. I agree with the OP. If your mommy radar is going off there is probably a good reason for it. There is nothing wrong with the human body but there is something wrong with grown men purposefully exposing themselves to young boys. -
What I learned on My Vacation
TCoppock replied to Jean in Newcastle's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I learned from a past vacation that: 1. Little boys and waterfalls don't mix. 2. Little boys like to try and swim and almost get washed over the edge rather quickly. 3. Mothers of little boys trying to swim in waterfalls scream extremely loud. 4. Lots of people react quickly when mother is screaming and little boys are being pulled toward the edge of waterfalls. 5. Little boys are oblivous to the dangers of fast moving water but understand very well the dangers of a screaming mother.
