  1. They bound the hands of Jesus in the garden where He prayed; They led Him thro' the streets in shame. They spat upon the Savior so pure and free from sin; They said, "Crucify Him; He's to blame." He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called ten thousand angels, But He died alone, for you and me. Upon His precious head they placed a crown of thorns; They laughed and said, "Behold the King!" They struck Him and they cursed Him and mocked His holy name All alone He suffered everything. He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called ten thousand angels, But He died alone, for you and me. When they nailed Him to the cross, His mother stood nearby, He said, "Woman, behold thy son!" He cried, "I thirst for water," but they gave Him none to drink. Then the sinful work of man was done. He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called ten thousand angels, But He died alone, for you and me. To the howling mob He yielded; He did not for mercy cry. The cross of shame He took alone. And when He cried, "It's finished," He gave Himself to die; Salvation's wondrous plan was done. He could have called ten thousand angels To destroy the world and set Him free. He could have called ten thousand angels, But He died alone, for you and me.
  2. We are going to homeschool until he goes to college. The Dr. was questioning if he was ready to go back to school and what school he went to and DS told him he was homeschooled. The Dr. commented quite a few people homeschool until 6th-7th grade. That's when DS clarified we were in it fo the long run. I have always asked DS if he wanted to go back to private school and he always says NO. I honestly figured he would go back to regular school for high school but I guess he has other plans. :svengo::001_smile:
  3. My initial thought was COOKIES. :D Kids seem to like anything portable. Maybe you can make sandwiches cut into fourths or a fruit and veggie trays.
  4. When DS turned a year DH, at the time, insisted on a HUGE birthday party. It was his first and last one. I was so stressed out and he was exhausted and over-stimulated. I think it's more special spending time with those you are closest to not everyone you ever met. I feel the same about enormous weddings. DS has had a few class parties when he was in private school but those became very large because people felt it was ok to bring other children, cousins, neighbors, etc. We now have family only parties and DS gets to pick a special place for the immediate family to have a weekend vacation in September. (his birthday is in August but I refuse to vacation during the summer months) DS doesn't have any close friends so he loves this idea.
  5. Oh no, I only have the 2004 edition. I knew I NEEDED the new one. :D
  6. Our library system is great for audiobooks. Our favorites include Bronze Bow, Artemis Fowl, Little House on the Prairie, Voyages of Dr. Dolittle, and any Mark Twain or E. Nesbit books. I also really enjoy Kidnapped however DS thinks it is the worst punishment ever.
  7. I have been struggling through Don Quixote in preparation for this years readings with DS. It seems like every time I start reading I fall asleep. I just can't get into the story.:glare: DS came into my room today and the book was lying on my bed and he announced, "Don Quixote! I remember that book." I told him I didn't think he ever read it and he insisted he did. He went on to tell me the story in great detail. Well I sat there in shock. I guess DS is better read than me. I have no idea when or where he read the story and neither does he. Guess I can chuck the book since now I know the rest of the story. :D Somedays I think DS should be teaching me not the other way around. When did kids become so smart? I wonder how many of my sister's AP students have read this book. (This is in refenece to my other post.)
  8. :iagree:DS is learning basically the same things I did in science except the fact Pluto is now demoted to a minor planet. I think fairly current science and history texts are important but one could get by with an older book if they kept up with current events and supplemented with libraries and newspapers.
  9. Thank you all for replying. I thought this was a bit absurd when she was talking to me. However, I had to stop and think because, according to her, curriculum would have changed at least 3 times since I was in high school. I had absolutely no intention of changing any of the textbooks I use based on this 5 year rule. DS is a bright child and I don't think I am going to ruin him because I am using a 1991 copy of Rod and Staff. Like someone mentioned, I am still new to homeschooling (going on our 3rd year) so my confidence isn't very high. We switched textbooks for some subjects based on DS needs and it never occured to me to check the copyright date. The more I think of it she borrowed some of my Abeka phonics readers to use for tutoring and they are definitely more than 5 years old. I think I bought them when my DS was going into K-4, 6 years ago. Maybe I should warn her she is damaging her students.:tongue_smilie:
  10. She's been teaching for just over 10 years. However, she has only been at the public school for two years.
  11. My sister is a public school teach and is against the fact I homeschool. She generally is very passive-aggressive about the situation making sarcastic remarks here and there but today she really upset me. DS and I were at my mother's house and he had a school book with him (it was a R&S grammar book) and she questioned me about the copyright date. I opened the book and told her and she said, "We don't use anything more than five years old at my school." I said that I thought it was wasteful considering the basic information doesn't change and she went off on me. She was telling me that there are "new" ways to teach subjects and children have to know the "new" ways to do the work because that is what is tested. I argued that 1+1 still equals 2 and A still comes before B and I taught DS in the way I thought he was best able to learn not the "new" way. She was so snotty about everything and was acting like I was ruining my son because I didn't know this new teaching method and had books older than 5 years. I honestly think she feels the need to put me down every chance she gets to prove she is a better teacher than me. Am I ruining DS for college entrance tests or is this garbage the public school system has filled her brain with? I guess I will go and toss out all the classic books I own since apparently the information is useless.:tongue_smilie:
  12. We didn't find out about these books until last year. We read them both and loved them. I agree with the OP you may need to explain a few things here or there but, I think a 7yo will understand the general stories.
  13. :iagree: I am so stressed out and tired all the time. :glare:
  14. I dream of living space big enough for my family to move around. We live in an efficeincy right now and barely have room to eat and sleep. I would take a day at the spa too.
  15. These are often the choice of CDs to listen to in the car. We love them!
  16. :iagree:This is the best DOWN TO EARTH cookbook around. It is fantastic for both a beginner as well as a seasoned cook. I LOVE mine!
  17. My grandmother used to sing this to me growing up.:001_smile: It took me a long time to figure out the real lyrics too. What exactly is a kiddilly anyways??:001_huh: Never questioned it growing up. lol
  18. All of these are hysterical! My DS butchers EVERY song he hears. Of course now I can't think of the words he sings. It's so bad I have to tell him to hum the song for me to figure out what song it really is.
  19. We live in an area where most cellphones have no coverage. We chose Sprint/Nextel and have been overall pleased with the phone service. However, it is much more expensive and there customer service people leave much to be desired. I had a cheapo Metro PCS prior to living here and it worked just fine for my needs.
  20. I think you will do just fine in WWE level 2. It still has copywork and narration but the passages are longer which should be fine for most 5th graders. We did WWE level 1 last year and looking back I wish we would have just went straight to level 2. Unless your child REALLY struggles with copywork or simple narration then I would stick with level 2.
  21. We made the switch from Shurley to Rod and Staff last year and I love it.
  22. I've purchased a number of ties for DS at Macys.
  23. I had to choose other because 8:30 is our SCHEDULED time to start but it really varies in actuality.
