  1. is it possible to take these courses but it be on the internet for the ectra lectures? We live overseas and our internet is very slow. loading videos and live chats take hours....i don't think DS would be able to always actively participate if that is the case. We will be stateside in January so perhaps we just need to wait.

  3. sorry I left out that we are doing Apologia Chemistry. The local CC here will accept 11th grade students. Our son was dual enrolled last year but does not want to do it again this year and I am okay with that. When we move during the year we will move to KS and that will open a whole new world I am sure. We were spposed to take PSATs but the local school here messed that up for us...long story but I will try to get him enroleld for the test again this year. Our SLO is great, but not the help that I need. He suports our local co-op and is a great resource for the little things. I use HSLDA highschool info as a guideline for what we should be doing and we do have a rough map for the next 3 years. DS is completely lost as to what he might even wnat or consider int he future and I find that challenging in terms of picking material that would captivate him. Do you see anything, besides the chemistry that I left off that is missing? Anything glaring?
  4. My son will be 15 next month and entering 10th grade. We are military, assigned overseas on a remote base. Our outside resources are limited. Several years ago DS was testing at post high-school levels according to the Stanford Academic Achievement test. We should be back in teh states for Jan 2015. I would like to have a look at having him enroll in the local community college in the near future. We struggled some through 9th grade because he was bored. He could use some improvement in writing and his math is average (finishing up Alg 1). I am at a loss as to how to keep him motivated, challenged and improve allwhil making sure that he is getting the courses needed to graduate and then go to college. His courses thus far are: Biology (summer before entering 9th) Marine Biology and Lab Spanish 1 Guitar (.5) Intro to Formal Logic (1) Creative Writing (IEW) (.5) Psychology (.5) Personal Fitness (.5) Applied computer applications (.5) Humanities (.5) Literature based U.S. History 180 Daily Grams Vocabulary from Classical Roots Growing Vocabulary Spelling Workout Saxon Algebra 1 Scuba Diving Baseball Soccer Next year's tentative plan is (we move in Dec so I only have the 1st semester planned out at the moment): Apologia Chemistry World History (not sure what to use) LLATL Gold Book (British Lit) Writing (not sure what to use) Vocabulary From Classical Roots book D Saxon Algebra 2 Spanish 2 Pencil Drawing (.5) Guitar (.5) Financial Literacy (SoS) Scuba Diving Soccer Maybe I just need a pat on the shoulder, or redirection. Writing all of this out here has been helpful, however I am still not confident. ANY advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA!
  5. We went of course from SOTW for a few years after finishing book 4. Now DS in entering the 7th grade and we will be going back to it. We should be reading book 3 correct? And doing weekly summary write-ups? Am I missing anything? Oh, we will be doing historical readings as well. Ashley
  6. intersting...how do you schedule this? what levels in each are you in? DS is wrapping up Delta in MUS...I think I like *your* thinking here!
  7. that is what it looks like to me...thanks! Trying Math 6 at teh moment. We will see how well he does.
  8. Is TT simpler than MUS? I printed out the Math 5 placement test. DS has not taken it yet but it seems VERY easy as compared to where he is in MUS Delta (almost completed). I will also have him take Math 6. Are they supposed to correlate to the school year the child is in? (DS LOVES the graphics shown on teh placement test )
  9. we already have something that we like (easy grammar and wordly wise) and though I am not one to deviate too much or too often, I am looking for something to help bring our school alive. I looked at this a few months ago and settled on what we are using now. So we are new to Easy Grammar. I have looked at the site...but unfortunately for me, I am a visual and hands on kind of gal and have a very hard time making decisions on this sort of thing without a hard copyt in my hand.
  10. would someone please fill me in? could this be done in conjunction with Easy grammar and wordly wise? DS likes these.
