  1. Ugh, quote not working...or I am not, a little stressful here. TranquilMind, does he need to ask for a specific form, or is it one they will have him sign anyway. regentrude, just thinking aloud...the PCP (here) is ordering the test at a hospital (there) in the morning. Is the release something he can do electronically or call?
  2. Our adult college student needs medical testing done out of town tomorrow. Are there any form we can have him take with him to allow release of results to us? TIA!
  3. Double the vanilla. (Wouldn't let me edit. What's up with that? I'll also add that I double the wine, but the extra is for the cook;)
  4. Thank you! I am a dietitian, and I way overthink food things. My education doesn't give me all the answers, just fills me with all the questions :willy_nilly:
  5. What was I thinking? My peeling crew doesn't come till late tonight, and I have gobs of other things to do. Can I dry out the soaking and let them wait till tomorrow? Just wondering about quality. I know (strawberries for example) some fruits & veggies don't like it. TIA!
  6. A hen house is essential for us because of a coyote problem. We want them closed up at night. For night return, we keep our hens closed up in the hen house for a month or so after being raised under a lamp in the garage. With new hens, this means sectioning off a portion of the hen house for them to stay separate during that month. It seems to help them know home well later and be familiar with the older hens without risk of getting pecked too soon. They simply go in themselves at night, and we only have to remember to close the door. We did have neighbors who wanted the hens out of their yard, so we have sectioned off a part of our property for the chickens. They can get around this sectioned fence (or go through holes made by coyotes, etc), but it slows them down from exploring the neighbor's yard. Instead, they spend time running back and forth outside the fence with the hens inside the fence. We have certainly spend much time herding them back, but the sectioned fence reduces it a lot.
  7. So, do tell, what recipe did you settle on?
  8. When both parent and student driver need some comic relief, I recommend:
  9. Nan in Mass, I can't send you a pm. Can you contact me? Thank you!
  10. I think it is fun that we may be meeting a new family member! The mention of photos makes me most interested in this then...did your initial stay set the tone for the long term relationship with your in-laws? Also, as the current parent/in-law, how do/did you make the significant other welcome in a special way?
  11. Thanks for that tip - so used to just our family doing everything together. But, I welcome this stage -- I am looking forward to being simply home base some of the time rather than the destination.
  12. Sorry about her fish! I agree that it might be in the filter tubes. Years ago, we put three crawdads from our creek into an aquarium on our first floor, far away from the staircase to the basement. Over the course of the next week, we found each crawdad near the inside basement door that goes into the garage and out to the creek...presumably going home. How did those crawdads get through the house, down the steps and across the basement...ew!
  13. I'd love to hear your experiences regarding college students bringing boyfriends/girlfriends home for visits over the holidays -- both your experiences as a parent and, in the past, as the adult child. I'm interested in everything from house rules to great memories that were made. I remember reading Nan in Mass describe a camping trip with her dad, sister, and their boyfriends where he read aloud to them...was it LOTR? Not holidays, but a special time with family...I appreciate those stories. Thank you! Nan in Mass, on 14 Nov 2016 - 5:55 PM, said: That was the title...now I remember! Thanks for the reply, Years ago, when I read that post, it really gave me an example of family togetherness to shoot for since my family did not welcome others in until marriage, if then. Just very private. I'm not like that at all!

I hope my title change works, I did not think this duplicated the other thread, but I'm sorry about the original title.
  16. Ds loved being the recipient of this idea from here on the forums: I mailed a foil pan of brownies right in the pan. Just wrapped the pan in plastic wrap with a plastic knife and mailed it in a USPS flat rate box! (Although your own box, for the weight, would be cheaper and just as fast) This was big hit with his friends. I also load him up with high protein drinks/snacks for exam weeks.
  17. Does he have bear claws or silicone gloves? Dh loved these gifts for his pulled pork. A good compilation read-aloud or treasury (like Sherlock Holmes) to read around the campfire? Perhaps with a new headlamp.
  18. Oh dear! I guess I keep quiet for a reason - LOL! :blushing: I meant that others might spell neckerchiefs wrong that way. It just stood out to me as a potential problem.
  19. I read through this whole thread just to look for a comment on neckerchifs!
  20. This is all so helpful! Stayed at the General Lewis last year, so quaint and friendly -- I really felt like we stepped back a few years. Thank you!
