Another "can I still eat this" question
OH_Homeschooler replied to Danestress's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Well, I allow up to 6 days. I have no qualms about eating our Christmas leftovers through tomorrow! (But for some reason, at that week mark I can't even look at it, it has to go straight in the garbage). -
We refrigerate ours, but I think I prefer warm ketchup. I always think ketchup out of packets tastes better than the bottle stuff at home, and it's the same brand so I can only think it's because of the temperature!

 I'm sorry but this thread just keeps reminding me of Phoebe on Friends who lost her mother's cookie recipe (I believe) and was frantic to replace it, and it was finally revealed to be the recipe on the bags of Nestle Tollhouse chocolate chips. So some recipes might be secret only because they're no secret at all!

Please, for your children...
OH_Homeschooler replied to choirfarm's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Just wanted to post to say thank you for this! My siblings and I used to use those tactics on our parents all the time to try to get them to quit. My dad died of cancer, and my mom currently has a lot of health issues and only recently seems to have actually kicked the habit. I'm sorry you're going through this. -
The new kid-product law & books...
OH_Homeschooler replied to Aubrey's topic in General Education Discussion Board
OH sorry! In other forums I've seen it used as a way of saying people were getting ready for a good online flame war! :smilielol5: And I didn't think I had written anything that controversial! I guess I just need to chill. :chillpill: -

Why the popcorn? I was just asking a question. But I did find another thread that answered the question, so never mind my previous post! -

OK, I'm not familiar with this law at all. What does it say? -
Work Out help please...
OH_Homeschooler replied to Trivium Academy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I love some of the recommendations above (Ellen Barrett is my favorite!) but I'm not sure they help with your time constraints. There is a series of 10-Minute Workouts, usually packaged as 5 ten-minute workouts that you can do separately or together. This one's my favorite: http://www.collagevideo.com/workout-video/the-10-minute-solution-9442 If you go to that link you can search for other 10 Minute Solution workouts. -

Birthday gift registry for a 4 year old
OH_Homeschooler replied to sassenach's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'm generally not opposed to registries, especially for wedding and baby showers where (as I learned from my bridesmaids), the whole purpose is to bring gifts for the bride/expectant parent. And I do see the utility in having some kind of list for kids parties, be it a wishlist or whatever. I am opposed to including registry info in a wedding invitation though, so I don't know. Anyway, this week I got a list from a dear friend of gift ideas for her kids for Christmas (I was included with about 20 other people on this email). It was basically like a registry...it had all the details on exactly what toy, the price, and everything. Except it wasn't a registry, so we would all have to coordinate with each other to see who was buying what. That frustrates me, at the very least a registry is convenient. I don't have time to check with everyone else to see what they're getting. In this case, I really wish she had just gone ahead and gotten a darn registry done. I'm just going to get some clothes and a toy for each kid, because she wasn't too specific about what clothes to get. :) -
Bread bakers, can you help me?
OH_Homeschooler replied to Crissy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I am really a novice breadmaker, but can you add more yeast? -
I finally finished up my order yesterday. I had so many issues, I'm sure due to the sudden demand placed on them. I started creating the book last week as soon as the offer was announced but it was taking so long and I was certainly thinking that this Snapfish site just isn't worth it. I'm glad they decided to extend the offer for those who had started the project! After I had the book created I had trouble placing my order. I could enter my credit card info, but there was no option to continue to the final page. I asked customer service about it and they said to try again later. I did, and still no dice. Finally, I decided to try in Explorer instead of Firefox, and it worked fine then.

Automatic litter boxes??
OH_Homeschooler replied to Nakia's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I've heard that the one linked is good, but I bought one of the electric ones that combs the litter automatically after the cat leaves the box...did not work well for us at all. We have two cats. I gave it to a friend with one cat and she loves it. At this point, I don't mind scooping the litter once a night, much easier than the maintenance on that electric monstrosity! -
SIL just emailed the entire family...
OH_Homeschooler replied to Robin Hood's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I say do it too! My sister sent a similar message yesterday (except to say they're only buying for kids in the extended family, not adults). I think about 99% of the people who receive your suggestion will be relieved and happy. It's funny, I constantly hear people gripe about how Christmas has gotten too materialistic but everywhere I look, people are wanting to downsize Christmas. And it's not just this year, we've been talking about it in my family for years. -
As someone upthread noted, my family doesn't really know me at all. Well, at least my in-laws. They would probably be surprised to learn that I have interests, hobbies, and opinions since they never bother to ask when we're all together and I'm not the type to volunteer that information unless asked. I was surprised though, to find my sister-in-law bashing me online once. I had no idea what I did to offend her (since I never bother saying anything at family get-togethers, see above) but it must have been something! When I called her on it she never replied. I guess she didn't like being caught showing her true colors!

Used Shoes (Thrift Store s/o)
OH_Homeschooler replied to Pink Fairy's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I always see shoes on lists of things you should NEVER buy used, right up there with car seats. It can really screw up your feet. The exception would be if the shoes were obviously not worn in, only worn once or whatever.
