My twin dolls or Similar AG doll?
SonshineLearner replied to lynn's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I got my step daughter the AG doll and my daughter the twin doll. They played with them both, while little, and they sit up on shelves now. They were similar. For a while the Twin Dolls were made in China, I think. Anyway, I know there were some issues. Ours is cute and really did look like my daughter when she was about 3, which is the age you're suppose to shoot for... I think :) -
Hmmm.... I would allow him to memorize things and find a way to give them back. Perhaps doing videos? It seems that he can "intake" and perhaps he just needs to find a way to use the information he's memorizing. I've always thought that memorizing material is a wonderful first step; I'd love to be able to memorize things. Seriously, some of the smartest people can just spit out facts as they desire. Then, it's the outputting that they need to couple with that. Perhaps doing Unit Studies with him studying things that interest him, and fulfill your desires for the knowledge that he "needs to learn". Is there also a place to volunteer? I've seen one of my children really start to blossom, when she started working. Just remember to explain each step to them, that you would normally think of as "socially learned"..... since it seems like they need a little help in that area. :)

Cat People...Please Help!
SonshineLearner replied to AlmiraGulch's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That sounds sweet!! Our kitty we put in the bathroom each night, and the older cat we try to make sure she's inside. Soon enough the kitty will be let out, but not on me ;) During the day his favorite spot is on the other side of my laptop ;) -
As a very conservative Christian, I believe that Yoga with meditating on God's Word, sounds ideal. I think that TaiChi (know I must have misspelled that) would be ok, too. My mom's Naturopath suggested it for balance; she suggests it for cancer patients... and older people. Think about the Scriptures that talk about "meditating on God's Word." ;)

MFW Adventures: Who's doing it this year?
SonshineLearner replied to SonshineLearner's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Yup, I just thought it'd be fun to list who's doing it; if people were around here, that'd be cool to know, but I didn't REALLY :) think that there would be people right here. It would be fun if it connected some others, though :)- 11 replies

Are you a secular or Christian homeschooler?
SonshineLearner replied to dcurry's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Wow, this poll shows where each person voted; not use to that. Anyway, I'm strictly Christian and believe that each person projects their worldview on their children's studies. Those who are fortunate realize this and choose their subjects with this in mind; I truly believe that you can not have a "no worldview". I prefer to have material that is from a worldview that is Christian, although what that means is debatable. I would have no material that is "anti-Christian" without explaining how this goes against Christian belief. I do believe that God chose how math would work; but, I don't need a Bible verse on the bottom of each Math page. -
Need prayers please

Did you see if Acupuncture would work? Course, if you mean tomorrow, that's too late... :( Sorry... hope it passes. -
If you do CC at home, just like when we did Latin at home.... just invite some friends!! It works out well, provides accountability, and allows you to pop in what you'd rather. For example, I like LFC and Shurley Jingles. Perfect! (You have to make it like a regular class; Monday at 10 or whatever) I was also thinking about checking out the Catholic one that was mentioned. I believe it uses the 4 year cycle. I like the flexibility of local decisions. :)

Way cool! ;) Wish you were closer... ;)

Having a hard time sleeping
SonshineLearner replied to vlgimmelli's topic in The Learning Challenges Board
My son who is 8 listens to Jim Weiss for a LONG time in bed, but at least he stays there now. I have thought of melatonin but just haven't tried it yet. -
Hey There, We're in Oregon and are doing it with our two boys; if anyone is around here, we would be interested in perhaps doing it with another family, too. But, who is doing this by themselves or with a group? We will be selecting things to do with each other, as we are meeting only two days a week. :bigear:

Wow, I can't comment much on Washington; I live in Oregon. But, I do know that I love.love.love NJ :) Right by so much!! (Of course, what part determines how far.... ) Washington is SO different!! What about NJ don't you like? Perhaps that would help determine if Washington is where you want to be; no offense but I would never live there unless I had family or a great job there! :) Have you visited for a while, just to make sure? :) Traffic isn't worse than if you say... have to drive over to NY everyday, so that's just perspective.

Update & Abilify help please????!!!
SonshineLearner replied to sweetsouthern's topic in The Learning Challenges Board
Ok, I know this sounds a bit off, but I would SO visit a Doctor (like with an MD) that practices Chinese Meds. Just a thought. Since you're at such a low dose, this might be a good time before you totally go Western Meds. Just a thought. We just visited with a DR on Monday, and when listening to him talk, I just thought, "wow, I wanna visit you before trying Western meds... like... always :))" I'm totally not against Western Meds, but think that sometimes diet and Chinese meds can seriously work. Especially with Bipolar, where it seems that it's something that you could alter the body and get decent results. No pressure or judging... just another idea :) Just one blog about Eastern Med for Bipolar -
Which Bible do you read to your 5yr old?
SonshineLearner replied to MyLittleBears's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
The Golden Children's Bible is nice; it reads kinda KJV but in "kid language".... hmmmm hard to explain. I like the real Bible, versus paraphrase, but when you read the stories for kids, in close language... it's known that it's like an oral "retell" in my opinion. :)
