I am in charge of the co-op with 2 friends. I am trying to figure out what I have to buy, and it's a bit overwhelming. When I did CC, I bought a kit... because this is one of the parts of the "job" that I dislike. Anyone have any hints? We've gone through for the first 6 weeks (SOTW) and figured out what we need, and now for the other subjects. Anyway, suggestions... or lamenting with me.... :( UGH :)

Enough English (grammar) in MFW high school?
SonshineLearner replied to jbrig's topic in High School and Self-Education Board
Hi There ;) I really want to hear how this goes for your highschool. We're using it in our once a week co-op and we're really excited. :) We're using Our Mother Tongue as a supplement for grammar. -
Formula Feeding Question

So, just a thought... Coconut Oil is suppose to be great to add to the formula. Something to think about... :) -
Freaking Out! Bed Bug Questions...
SonshineLearner replied to WagsWife's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I am not sure that the washer kills them. They are really hearty...... I think it's a certain temperature... but maybe water does it... -
Well, if you purchase a gift, there is a good chance it'll be taken back. I would go with sentimental and perhaps a gift card to a place they can eat out at. Oh, and Christian or not... The Love passage... is lovely. Love is patient, Love is kind... etc. Just think about it... they can look at it or not... but sounds like they could use a reminder :)

Freaking Out! Bed Bug Questions...
SonshineLearner replied to WagsWife's topic in General Education Discussion Board
If bed bugs... you need to leave all their stuff outside.... All the luggage... the backpacks... everything. And, put new clothes on before they come in the house... or the car. Sorry :( -
So I won't vote, since my son is 8, but he's still in his Britax carseat. You can use it up to 80lbs and he's not there. I had my older kids (all girls) in theirs till pretty old, too. I watched a youtube of a family whose son was thrown from his booster. (and he died) They found out too late about Britax carseats. There was nothing wrong with the spot their son had been in... just died because he was thrown from the booster. It's much easier for a child to buckle in a carseat ...than in a booster, too.

Formula Feeding Question
SonshineLearner replied to Impish's topic in General Education Discussion Board
You might want to think through this for a bit though. If you think about the fact that it will be a cow or a human supplying the milk, that might help you? Or the fact that you can get pasteurized human milk instead of cow milk? Soy has been found to be bad for many.... If I couldn't nurse, I'd do "donated" first... (especially if there was a friend you could trust... even for the first few weeks... I had enough for triplets :)) I would probably do something like the Nourishing Traditions "formula" recipe. Then formula off the shelves. There's formula without the corn syrup.... Check for the organic. There are two kinds... perhaps they send there, too? When I went to look for a supplement, I was so surprised that there was High fructose corn syrup in it. Perhaps they don't have that anymore. For bottles, I used Avent... :) -
Tomorrow will be the best day ever!
SonshineLearner replied to JessicaLady's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Those are some good thoughts!! I'd do Chick-fil-A with waffle fries!!! I try not to eat out, but can still taste the pickle/sweet/chicken taste... and the waffle/ketchup...yum!! It's been like 10 years for me!! Enjoy your day!! -
My 8 year old is in his car seat. He uses a booster when necessary, and I make sure it's properly placed and tight enough. I would use carseats until they were at least 8; seriously, they are just so much more safe!! And, especially when you are putting them in a less safe spot (potentially) than the middle of the van.

3rd grade handwriting, when his printing isn't great
SonshineLearner replied to Janie Grace's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
:iagree: I've been asking HWOTs to do a cursive program for students "from the start" to mesh up to their 3rd grade cursive. I'd love it if there were others asking for the same thing! I'd also like them to recognize homeschoolers as teachers and offer some type of discount for products/services. Also, they have a policy of not selling at discounts to bookstores, like Exodus Books. I believe it would be more fair for them to sell to spots where I could buy their books locally, at a price that the bookstores could afford. ;) -
A Funny re weddings
SonshineLearner replied to Chris in VA's topic in General Education Discussion Board
That's hilarious!! Already laughing, and it's not even 8am :) -
It would depend on how healthy the plan was... and what I could do. I'd love my husband to lose weight, and if it was something that wouldn't put me out too much, I'd probably do it. I'm trying to cook all organic, all healthy, food. I'm not great at meals anyway.... so..... if it was something horribly different and not healthy.... it'd be hard. :(

3rd grade handwriting, when his printing isn't great
SonshineLearner replied to Janie Grace's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Seriously, I sound like I get money from them... but I seriously don't. I would start with the cursive. Good time to go really intense about doing/watching/ together.... and I think that the cursive has a good chance of solving reversals. I had always planned to do cursive first; I believe that there's good information out there... as to why that's best. But cursive was not going as planned. Anyway, got the HWOT 3rd grade with Teacher's guide... and a short time later.... very decent handwriting. Do I still have to say "top to bottom" and such... especially when he's just writing something away from school? Yup! And I told him that he needs to write as I say, because later he'll be glad to have properly formed letters. BUT, it looks nice :) -
Odd poll for the day
SonshineLearner replied to Parrothead's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I would say that many times mental illness..... eventually... might be linked to dietary issues and environmental issues. I've started to read a bit about food healing... and also, it makes sense when you look at animals that have the wrong food.... for a few generations... and what happens to them. Just a thought that food might be a problem. -

I believe that VERY rarely, a person can be possessed. Of course, many people act possessed :001_rolleyes: -
I'm desiring to have our group declared as a "non-profit"... but know from what I've heard... that it's a hard process. Anyone done this? We are a Homeschool co-op and I am anticipating a long time for this co-op, so.... with this in mind, I'd love to make it so we can take advantage of fundraising opportunities...etc. Anyone out there that's done this? :bigear:
