Chores and future resentment?
SonshineLearner replied to Tohru's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Oh no!! Maybe I'm this Step-Mother. I was just thinking... I need to show evidence of working while my kids (and steps that we have half time) do "chores". I had already stopped thinking of Christmas Break as a "Scrooge" Christmas... chores wise. To me... it's a "Let's get going on what's skipped all year".... And, of course, that's a scroogie.... though possibly cleaner and neater.. way of thinking. So... We have to do the Laundry folding... That will take maybe 2 hrs.... and my Step 17 year old is great at that.... And our rooms and the hall upstairs. Other than that... I spent yesterday straightening our front room..... for about 8 or so hours... maybe more... (It's the room with our bookshelves.... I think I have enough for a small school:-) All these posts are making me think... Balance and helping. I want my children to know how to work.. and what to do.... But not resent me if possible. This year... I'm going to have them pick fun ways to work... Pick Dinners to make.... Cookies to Bake... and to balance it... Clean all of our rooms together. I was talking about the school teachers who need to take a sabbatical because their attitude needs adjusting!! I realized that it was me... My goal is to have a Cheery Christmas this Year... Carrie :D -
Lagotto.... try that... if you wanna spend the money (they are what I wanted... until I got one at the humane society..) .... Also, wheaten terriers. (but of course, in or out.. you have to spend time training:-) I've heard that a good way to spend time to see if you're allergic to ... that... particular dog is to be in a car for a while... and see if it's a problem... Do it a few times.... Also, if you're allergic to any foods.... don't let your dog eat it in their dog food. Carrie:-)

Need recommendations for baby carriers
SonshineLearner replied to Teresa in MO's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The Ultimate Baby Wrap/carrier? looks like a Moby wrap... except it has rings instead of tying.... and I got that one for $25 on ebay.... a couple of years ago:-) They also have a nice video that you can watch. If you got really nice material.. you could make that, too:-) Carrie -
Need recommendations for baby carriers
SonshineLearner replied to Teresa in MO's topic in General Education Discussion Board
myfavoritebabycarrier.com Has 90 day money back guarantees. For only getting one carrier... I'd pick an Ergo. You kinda slide the baby to the side... sling style... (with an insert... look at it.. you could improvise....if you don't wanna buy that) and then on your back (my favorite way) front... or side. Carrie:-) -
TOG.... What's the best way to purchase this?
SonshineLearner replied to SonshineLearner's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
So... is the digital... with no ability to resell it... the only way to purchase it now? And... how 'bout the ones that are used on here and "Classic"? Are those a lot less material.... (Would those be a smart purchase?) Thanks!! -
TOG.... What's the best way to purchase this?
SonshineLearner posted a topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Hi There, I have a 6th grader and 1st grader.... I'm looking at purchasing TOG... So, here are some things to consider: I use IEW and am thinking of doing CW druring the off times. We use Singapore Math... We have our own grammar program... and I'm considering p/u Shurley 7 for grammar... I've tried the LCC and I'm ok with some of that.... But... I'm looking at doing some TOG... Crazy??? What should I purchase if I go with it... and what could I do with the 6th and 1st.... I'd like to try it sometime after Ancient History.... (We're starting to get sick of that...) Carrie:-) -
Talk to me about Singapore Science, please
SonshineLearner replied to extendedforecast's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board

Not feeling like a good mommy right now
SonshineLearner replied to plain jane's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Does she listen to music? My daughter likes the little I-pod thing that her bio dad got her. It's an apple.... So.... She listens to music or books on it all the time. So... school... or pleasure.... :-) Crochet lessons and such?? Or.... those yarn things that you use the hook thing.... and make the picture? Or... a really nice set of art pens... (just saw a thread about the ones with "D" for the first letter of the brand... being nice.. and a nice stack of paper. Carrie:-) -
Not Jewish, but loved the food... when I nannied... Still have the dreidel. I love 'em with applesauce and sour cream... Yum!! Carrie:-)

I'd wash it in the dishwasher. And.. if it's wool... it's more the agitation of the wash... than the wash itself. You can use Eucalan if it it's wool.... But not that in the dishwasher. Also, you might be able to have someone with a frontloader wash it on their gentle cycle.. or if they have the part for shoes.. to keep it still while the water is swishing around... Carrie

SonshineLearner replied to TheCoffeeChick's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I'm checking http://www.amazon.com/Basics-Biblical-Workbook-William-Mounce/dp/0310287677/ref=ntt_at_ep_dpt_1 out for myself. My dad seems to think he's a great Teacher... which makes me think that the material will/would be good. The reviews look good as well. Carrie -
Is Shurley 7 different from the other levels?
SonshineLearner replied to Mommy7's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
My friend who uses it feels like it's a good jump. It seems to be worth the $$$ and time. Carrie:-) PS... She doesn't use the writing, either. -
If 7th grader wasn't reading well.....
SonshineLearner replied to ABQmom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
There's a lady in Colorado that I hear is great with reading diagnosis. I've heard that people actually travel to her.... to have her help... because in a few hours she can do "wonders". Also, I know that people like Wanda Sanserri (sp?) can evaluate and help along. I would go to someone who had serious knowledge of reading issues and solving them. Carrie:-) -
Famous Men Series -- As Spine
SonshineLearner replied to Medieval Mom's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I like them.... I like the MP ones enough to get those. I still have my kids listen to SOTW because I really like the SOTW. Also, know that you can get Famous Men of..... free... to download... and then put them on cds and let your kids listen to them. Carrie:-) -

:grouphug: Sorry for this sad time. Hoping they're still with you. Carrie -
I Had a bit of a problem but now... do bleach more often... remember to take out what's under the "fold" of the plastic part (for the washer) .... leave the door a bit open... And... when I first smelled it... I soaked a few hand towels in vinegar... and then dried them till they were VERY dry.(dryer) That really helps.... Carrie:-) PS, I think there's something you can buy to add... I also only use liquid eco friendly detergent....

Recipes that use LOTS of eggs please
SonshineLearner replied to Amber in AUS's topic in General Education Discussion Board
We call those "Dutch Babies". Also, crepes. We do crepes with yogurt, which I know you make...., and 14 eggs. They freeze well. I do like the "vanilla yogurt" so you may want to add some vanilla and some sweetness if you want to use them with jam or syrup. (Ligonberry ...that's spelled incorrectly, ?? is good... with some whipped cream...as is apricot.... and anything else, really:-) Our recipe calls for Oat flour (oat groats ground into flour) You can also use crepes without them being sweetened for Dinner things... like Caesar Salad...etc. We have restaurants here... that are just "Crepe" Restaurants:-) You can make quiche mixture and freeze it... Did someone say Custard Pie? Our puppy loves raw or scrambled eggs:-) Carrie:-)
