  1. Yup, my highschool friend and all her family... and all of Japan deserved it. Sure!! I mean... seriously?? How completely insane. I even think I understand what he could have... might have...meant... and it STILL doesn't make sense. AND, seriously... Japan wouldn't be the most deserving... :( Surely God ..... will show mercy to those who cry out for it. And we in America should be crying out for Japan ... not making cartoons about their devastation.
  2. I'm just wondering if some Evangelical Pastor or Peacemakers person... or someone... could possibly talk with Ham?? Seriously!! In other public situations where there are issues like this... a person of integrity, and even with some "like thinking" can talk with someone who may be going over the line... and bring God's Word to them.. encouraging love... and making things right. Is this a possibility?? Could it be that he could apologize for the ways he's handled things, and share what his intent was... (should it have been good to start with??) It seems like he rolled a ball down the hill and just doesn't have the ability to stop it at this point. Intervention seems necessary :(
  3. Here's one persons response, although I couldn't "like" it... I do :) ‎"A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another." (John 13:34 NKJV) "Love... does not behave rudely" (1 Cor 13:4,5 NKJV). 35 minutes ago · 3 people
  4. Hi Y'all, I'd like for us to have a thread about using MFW Highschool programs in co-ops. Please comment about your use, should you have used it in co-ops, and if you haven't... just comment on anything... you want to say about it :) :bigear::bigear:
  5. OK, so I know I can call tomorrow and start gathering more information, BUT... does anyone have any numbers about Convention Hall prices... How many people I MIGHT have a chance of getting at a Classical Education Conference...AND, do you think that it might work to be general enough that Classical Educators... all of 'em... might be interested in a Classical Education Conference?? Does it have to be "Just homeschool"? Could it be for all of us wanting to educate students? How do that work for listening to what works for homeschoolers -v- classrooms?? Thoughts?? :)
  6. Anyone in Salem, OR and around... should check us out :) I think you will/would be pleasantly surprised :)
  7. This is great! I am curious to know what people would budget to pay and if people would try to budget some money to spend on the curriculum. I need to start figuring out the big picture that we'd want and then backing up to see all the little parts that would need to come together to make it happen. I'll be counting on votes to help me decide who we want, what we want to hear (I know Cat wants the real kid one:)) and then ..... figure out how much money this will take :) I will FOR SURE need someone to help me with the money part... as far as intake and such... I love doing things like this... I just have to figure out location ... and ALL the other stuff that goes into it... Ramble ramble... I think that 1.5 years is enough time to make it happen. Also... here's a question... Do you all want different speaker for the weekend... or concentrate on one speaker at a time?? And rotate through people over the years :) :)
  8. Who would come, knowing that I'm a die hard Christian, if I chose speakers I really want to hear? I want academic talks... from people like: SWB, Andrew Pudewa, Adam Andrews perhaps??, Christopher Perrin, and more... I have NO idea if I could actually get any of them to speak over here... Here's the deal.... I want MANY Christian speakers, but if there are some I'd like to hear that aren't... I'd ask them, too. At this conference if the person is Christian, I can imagine them praying for silence during their talk. (You know... the baby/child thing) BUT, all the talks would be ON FOCUS about the particular subjects we want to hear.... NO TALK would be against another person.... And none would be trying to persuade another.... to any particular religion. All talks would remain civilized and ... well....Speakers and others would perhaps have curriculum to share?? Tell me what YOU'D come for... if I put it together. And yup, I'd be praying for peace at the conference :) Guaranteed!! :) BTW, I like Sonlight... and I'd ask them to come!! :)
  9. So, perhaps have conferences for ADULTS?? Is it me, or doesn't it just seem normal that first choice would be with no kids, and 2nd choice would be with the children acting as they should in church or other locations?? I would be absolutely ticked if I finally....finally.... got to listen to SWM or Perrin or anyone else... and a little bitty was allowed to ruin if for me. I think I'd pick up my stuff and move a couple feet away from the speaker... I wanna get to hear speakers at conferences someday :)
  10. Seriously? He was one of the ones involved with Sonlight getting banned? I always thought that was weird!! I mean... they are one of quite a few to have secular books. You can't quite have a good education without some secular books.... I am really sad about this whole thing. Theology, and right theology is important. BUT, one does not need to attack a persons Christianity to privately speak with them about differences. And, doing so in a public forum, before going through privately about them, doesn't seem right. Also, a HS conference, just doesn't sound right either... ALSO, when you are doing your own curriculum, that just sounds a teeny bit like wanting more profits yourself. Very Sad!! Sounds like some Peacemakers type of thing would be good... Or a pastor who could work through this... I am very sad to think of verbal attacks continuing. In the end, this means that WE get less to choose from.... Sorry for SWB ;(
  11. Yes, then you can piece it all apart, and put it all together in order, and then also add some words that are missing, and then add your own jingles that are better for english like Shurley Jingles and LFC Latin for Latin and then cut the whole thing into 4 cycles which makes it easier with SOTW or whatever other history you use... and then do it with some other families.... which makes it more fun. :)
  12. Sorry, no names popping in my head... although I'm sure they're hearing "stop" and "chewing" on that!! a lot :) Cute pups :)
  13. Glad you got to get there FIRST ;) Glad you enjoyed the conference!! I'm jealous and hope that next year... I'll get to hear some cool people, too!! Enjoy your time... hopefully you can.... :)
  14. Ok, so I just have to say "We don't do Ham" :) Obligatory "other" right?? :) We eat.... well.... kosher meats of course :)
  15. Pop, our Homeschool Co-op Meeting is coming up :)
  16. I think it's the length of time you are needing help. I think that for things like steady "help" families should receive whole grain staples. And fruits and veggies in season.... Basics... For someone just needing temporary help, some comfort foods... like Annies Mac& Cheese, Even some healthy instant potatoes, Maybe some rice milk that is in the "no refrigeration needed" cartons... And some peanut butter and tuna?? And a few things like noodles and stuff to make casseroles?? (Course, it depends on if they'll be able to make anything??) Very sweet of you!
  17. :iagree: About the Apologetics class.... I think that for ALL kids... this is good. And, I would want it so that perhaps the parents would help in teaching. I have an issue with kids barely older than teens being in charge. I'd love to have them do the Apologetics class, but after that move through different subjects that kids are taking in public school and teaching what "truth" is concerning that subject. :)
  18. If you have the money...http://www.elitecarseats.com/Sunshine-Kids-Radian-65SL.pro#pp-tabs I think I'd get this... I have a Britax, but it's HUGE and fits because we have a roomy van. Back facing has been normal for other countries... for a long time. It's simply safer in a wreck.. I've heard till 2 is recommended here, but I think that even 3 is common other places.
  19. LET. HIM. GO! And when you find a great new church breath a sigh of relief. Forgive what you should forgive and thank God for the opportunity to move....on :)
