  1. This year for kindergarten we have stretched 1A out over the year using the textbook, workbook, and IP. We have about a week left. I also have CWP but decided to hold off on that because it was too many books to manage. We plan to start that soon as a review and for summer work. I didn't have a super structured schedule so we just went with the flow and did 1-3 pages at a time (not every day), depending on the amount of written work on the page. So looking ahead at 1st grade I would like to do 1B and at least part of 2A, but it seems like a lot to fit in! She is a bright, mathy kid but I don't want to push written work. Should I ditch IP or CWP? I need to have everything ordered together this summer, so adding more mid-year isn't really an option Also, I am thinking of switching from US to Standards. (honestly, I am just curious to see the differences) I have read somewhere (here?) not to swtich mid-year but do you think it really makes a difference in the early levels? Thanks for listening. I just might be overthinking this a little. ;)
  2. No I would keep the small. My experience with the K'tan is that you need to size down.
  3. Subbing to this thread because we have checked out the CD's from the library and also a few of the suggested other books and DD just has zero interest in the ancients. I haven't seen the activity guide yet. There is also the Famous Figures of Ancient Times paper dolls - that might help.
  4. Texas is not the only state with generous hs-ing freedom. That said, I have only had genuine concern for 2 families and that concern is more about general welfare than education. One of those families is no longer hs-ing.
  5. :lurk5: as this is also what I would like to do.
  6. This is what we have started with also, plus extra books we find at the library.
  7. Oh wonderful! We are just about to start Level 2 and that will be perfect for DD. She doesn't like the whiteboard because it's hard for her to write without smudging. (lefty) Thank you!
  8. Our plan so far is - FLL1, WWE1, AAS 2+3, HWT1, SM 1B+2A, WTM style biology Still working out the history and literature plans - debating between SOTW1, AO Year 1 and Sonlight A
  9. ***I googled a bit more and found my answer I feel really dumb for not being able to figure this out... I want to move my iphone photos to the ipad. I have all the photos in icloud, but can't figure out what to do from there. My google search gave me some instructions to go to Settings, Store, and then to select the type of content you want automatically downloaded. But photos doesn't show up as an option for me - only music, apps and books. I have photostream turned on on both devices. Is there something obvious I am missing?
  10. kebg11 - I just got mine today too. How early do you think the kids' bedtime can be tonight? lol
  11. FIL gave us an HP b+w laser jet about 8 years ago and it works wonderfully. We buy a refill once a year and that is it. FIL still has his that is probably 15 years old and it also still works great. If we need something in color we have to go somewhere to get it done, but we rarely do that.
  12. We have tried several freebies and a couple of paid apps, but I don't have one that I just love. We use HWT and there always seem to be a few letter formations that don't match HWT. Another one we tried was just really hard to use.
  13. I'm wondering this myself, though thinking about IP vs CWP
  14. Great thread! My new ipad is coming tomorrow. :)
  15. I have a tempur pedic, which is likely the same thing. I have replaced it once and will probably do so again in about six months.
  16. I bought it used after enjoying The Toddler Busy Book, but haven't really looked at it.
  17. We store our bread products inside a cabinet (lack of counterspace) and it works just fine.
  18. I have not done AAR, but we did OPG with dd and started AAS this year. For DD, she is a natural reader and OPG was more than enough for her. If I feel like one of my younger children needs more help, AAR would definitely be a consideration for me. Looking forward to reading more answers.
  19. DD loves these but for my younger kids I might not buy the entire series. Our favorites have been C+G for the math and F (nearly every other page is cut and paste). We still have H and I to work through. She is doing mostly 1st grade work and reading fluently, but these are great for extra fine motor practice. In the future I may pull out the number formation pages in book C and put them in a binder with page protectors for more practice. I do have a couple of criticisms about the books. Handwriting - it is not enough (or it wasn't for us) to stand alone as handwriting instruction. In addition I don't like the way some of the letters are made. Also I just could not stand the Bible story book. I know that a lot of people like it, but it rubbed me totally wrong and felt very negative and dry.
