  1. We liked the Nora Gaydos readers a lot. Now that I have seen them in person, I will probably buy the AAR readers for my preschooler when he is ready.
  2. I agree with the Singapore Essential Math suggestion. Counting with Numbers from Rod and Staff is also really nice.
  3. Mostly WTM recommendations - FFL1, WWE1, HWOT1, AAS2, Singapore 1B/2A, SOTW1, WTM style biology
  4. Are there any advantages to the newer version of FLL where level 1 and 2 are in separate books? What are the differences between the two versions besides the number of books?
  5. Last year when I asked, this board made me buy both. ;) What ended up happening is that we did IP and never got to CWP. I'm going to use it for review this year so that is fine. I still haven't decided what to get for next year though.
  6. Tamale Corn Cakes!!!!!!!!! I don't like their cheesecakes as much (Dh makes his own and they are way better IMO) but I do adore their Chocolate Tower Truffle Cake - truly it is a theraputic quality dessert.
  7. http://www.kids-sewing-projects.com/kids-sewing-projects.html - I found this a while back on Pinterest.
  8. I agree. You can do the 3 R's for under $50 in my opinion. An example set would be Ordinary Parents Guide to Teaching Reading, Singapore Essential Math B and Handwriting Without Tears K. Then I would use the library for quality literature, interest based science, music CD's etc.... You will probably use some basic school and art supplies, but those can be picked up during the sale season and as needed.
  9. Does anyone know if there are any current discounts, or discounts coming soon? I know it comes up on HSBC sometimes.... If I don't go the above route, I am considering just getting the printed books from RR for the convenience. How are they bound? If they are spiral bound that might change my mind, because DD is a lefty. (like me and I've always hated spirals)
  10. Forgive me if this is a dumb question.... I am buying WWE and SOTW activity guide PDF's soon. Does this mean I can store them both on my desktop (for easy printing) and in iBooks? With just purchasing them once?
  11. Check Timberdoodle and Fat Brain Toys for ideas.
  12. Thanks! I may poke around the website a bit or I may just have her look for science and geography books.
  13. My mom (a teacher) just texted me to say that their bookfair was today and was I looking for any specific topics etc.... I don't have anything in mind, but I think she is wanting a few ideas. It's hard to know without seeing the selection, but when I have looked in the past it's always been on the twaddle-ish side. (not that I am 100% anti-twaddle, but hs-ing has definitely turned me into a bit of a book snob ;) ) Any ideas? We have a number of atlases, usborne, science books etc... already. I'm just at a loss.
  14. I think it is a great idea! I could care less that some might come to the boards intending to "home-preschool" and then use public or private. That concern does sound snobby to me. This is a message board, not a local group or co-op. It makes sense to avoid that locally, but a message board is different. You really have no idea what the intentions are of someone online, nor does it really affect you if you answer their question and then they decide not to homeschool.
  15. Thanks again everyone! Maybe block schedule is not the right term, as that was definitely not what I had in mind. :) We will do all three throughout the year.
  16. How many days a week did you do the following? FFL WWE spelling (we do AAS) I'm just working on schedule options for DD next year, but I'm just not sure how I would set these three up. Thanks!
  17. I have Family Math but have never implemented it. Honestly what I have liked best is using the ideas at the bottom of the pages of the SM Essentials books. (for prek-K level stuff)
  18. We found that we used the stamp + see screen more than the other items we own (slate and wooden pieces). We have barely touched the wooden pieces but I am going to hang onto them. My younger kids might get more use out of them and then I will probably still sell them easily.
