  1. Yep. You just need to find a school willing to allow a HS student. I had to call around for dd"s AP test too. It's ridiculous.
  2. From someone with a bunch of kids: We have been to Disney many times. I ALWAYS cost compare staying onsite vs off. We have always chosen onsite. We also fly. I hate driving so much. No way I could do that long of a drive without stopping(We are in the Chicago area) So figuring gas/tolls/hotels for 8 people, it's worth a couple hundred dollars to me. I ALWAYS get cheap flights-think $79 one way-Then my vacation begins the minute we board that plane. Staying offsite-Parking is expensive and can be a hassle. And HOT. My husband is a great driver, but after a long day wrangling kids, he has said many times that he is so grateful for that bus. We are a huge group(needing carseats). Uber can not happen for our family. We stay in 2 connecting rooms at a value resort since our family has expanded past a family suite. Value resorts are well maintained and are beautiful. We visit other resorts for meals, etc. I have priced offsite as comparison. The savings for us easily get consumed by travel, parking, etc. I don't know if you were planning with a dining package included? We always go during free dining. It does save our family a lot of money (and me a lot of stress) because everyone can order whatever they want. I use the snack credits for breakfast foods. We have milk, juice, fruit, cereal, snacks, delivered to our room from Garden Grocer at the beginning of our stay. That saves a ton of money. We actually spend VERY LITTLE money once we get there. Tips here and there. The kids have prepaid cards for their souvenirs. Disney can seem overwhelming. It's worth some research. But, the research can be fun! I love the planning too. ?
  3. Mine was just hand written. Similar to this:https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Compare-World-Religions-Chart-Judaism-Christianity-Islam-Hinduism-Buddhism-1314985 With a column to signify which countries/which religion
  4. I used to think online classes cost a fortune. Then I really started thinking about it. I compare classes to music lessons. I pay $1200/ year for lessons for 1 instrument. So, DO is $58/month. Less than $600/school year. Classes are exceptional, graded by someone else(you can do this and the class fee is less), DD has accountability. We used DO for Alg 2 and probably will for Pre Calc next year, and AP Calc the next. That said, we used TT Geometry for both older dc. It is a good program. Not sure how the graded class would work, though.
  5. We faced the same problem last year. We replace the panel. It was easy to do. It didn't last 3 months. I did a bunch of research and decided to replace it. I went with a single wall oven(Electrolux). I don't know how long it will last. I did buy the warranty. So, we'll have it for at least 5 years. We also were told to never use the self clean function.
  6. Chicken enchiladas heat well. We like this casserole: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/219164/the-best-parmesan-chicken-bake/
  7. Does she sew or crochet? Something handmade is sweet and appropriate. If not, then something local is perfect.
  8. So, so sorry. Can't imagine the pain. Praying.
  9. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017MOR60S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I use this for severe eczema. Works very well. It does not have Manuka, though.
  10. I have no experience with the history. LA- I tried LA 4 this year. It was a complete bomb. It is very beautiful, but it is SO random. The spelling was awful. We tried it 1/2 year. I absolutely love LA Pre K-1. It is such a great fit for my boys. I love the lesson variety. DS7 adores the stories(lots about pets). So, we will likely move on to another program after this year for him as I don't like it past level 1. I like the nature journals. My boys love the handwriting books. The science units are light. I have Arthropods and Space. We used them. Heavily supplemented.
  11. All my kids had fun with this today! 4 of them clearly heard Laurel. The two little ones went with Yanny. I hear a VERY plain Yanny. I tried to hear Laurel. Laurel on the Vocabulary.com site.
  12. I did this a few years ago. My kids were younger, though. 2nd and 5th, I think. I used WP CAW. I heavily tweeked it. The kids loved the travel diary. I used a page I designed to chart religions. I scheduled Hungry Planet, How People Live, and Material World. I used SCM Visits To Series and Geography Songs for the Geography. I got lots of country specific books from the library. I coordinated RAs and readers to the geographic locations we were studying. I used Kids Around the World Cook for cultural experience. It was an excellent year. Our favorite.
  13. Thank you! How long did all that take? Would 4-5 hours be a good estimate?
  14. Thanks! I don't know why I didn't know that! However, our oldest(22) has procrastinated on a passport. He complains about it, but doesn't do anything to fix it... If he decides to stay home, I will remember that!
  15. I bought this one for a trip to Bahamas.https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010P96E0A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 I LOVE it.
  16. I've heard this. However, some of the kids don't have passports. So, we will be viewing from the NY side. I am planning on overnight in Buffalo. That can change, though.
  17. Anything you can tell me? We are "passing through" on our way from Boston to Chicago. So, it will only be for an afternoon/evening. We will get there about 2:00pm. We would like to see the Falls and then spend the night in Buffalo(I think.) And be on our way in the morning. Alternately, we could visit the Falls in the early AM before we leave for home. Where is the best place to see the Falls? How long will it take? ETC ETC ETC ?
  18. Ok...I guess, I used the wrong terminology...I don't assign grades until high school. So, I guess I am not really grading. I am circling what is wrong, asking/helping to make corrections.
  19. I love the super long dress trend! Beautiful!
  20. This is one of the hardest parts of homeschooling for me. I often go over(grade the kids' work) one at a time in the afternoon. They do independent work in the mornings while I do laundry, dishes, meal plan, clean, work with the 1st grader, etc) They put the books in my grading file on my desk. It is right there in front of me.(so, guilt sets in if it's full.lol) We review together and they correct. If we have something to do or if we are carschooling, they put it on my desk, I grade after dinner or before they get up. If I am lazy, they get on my case because they can't move on until we grade and correct. They want to finish school for they day, so they have learned to remind and ask without disrespect or frustration(most of the time! lol) It took me YEARS to find a good routine.
  21. We are using Biblioplan for the first time. I love it. It's not SL-they don't send you a box of books and a schedule. You have to plan your own reading from the generous reading lists. I love the optional craft and maps. I used the SOTW questions(Cool History Classic) and I got the Companion(their textbook) on pdf and read excerpts or summarize the text.(The hard copy is $$$$$) There are SO many resources scheduled. I don't use most of them.
  22. I have done that when we did SL. 2-3 cores(time periods) at a time. Honestly, it was exhausting. I am but one person. I felt so much freedom when I only did one at a time. Well, my highschoolers starts Ancients in 9th. So they work independently. We have had a great year doing modern history! It is SO much, though. I don't know how you could do it justice in a summer? Maybe choose a couple things(WWII, Civil Rights Movement) and do a unit study over the summer?
