  1. Bob Jones (BJU Press) has online school, and also Abeka. The teacher teaches them, just like a teacher teaches a regular class, except it is prerecorded. You do not have any live help, but you get teacher manuals to help you. Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but hope it helps! :)
  2. I have heard this curriculum is very good, and young earth. http://www.answersingenesis.org/PublicStore/catalog/Early-Elementary,340.aspx You have to scroll down the page a bit, and there is a series called "God's design for heaven and earth", There are 3 different ones: Our planet, The Universe, and Weather and Water. Some of the Answers in Genesis books are used in My Fathers world as well. Hope this helps!
  3. I have used the Abeka readers to teach all my children in Kindergarten and they are wonderful. I have found that the first couple readers in 1st grade are really good, but after the third one they get pretty hard, rather quickly. You could use other readers (ex frog and toad etc..) and it would be great. Thats just my experience. :)
  4. My daughter is using BJU English for 3rd grade and she absolutely loves it!:)
  5. I actually use the hardrive version of the BJU distance learning for my children. They let you lease the hardrive for 13 months. Also, you get all the teacher books as well as the student books and tests. They give you cds as well that have the "mom's minutes" in it, which is extra pages to print out for different activities throughout the year. This is the first year I have gone this route because I always taught them myself before. Its a nice break for me for a year. :) Hope this helps!
  6. We read this book as part of our Saturday night devos to our kids. They are 4, 6, and 8 years old and have been captivated by the stories! Love it! :)
  7. We are using Bob Jones Math this year , and loving it as well! My daughters have definitely excelled and no more sad faces when it comes to math time! :)
  8. I know they always do free shipping for 150 dollars or more. It would be great it they changed it to 25 sometime!
  9. Here is the consultant that I have used to order my BJU materials. Her name is Kim Jackson. Her contact information is 843.327.1019 - kimjax@msn.com. She is awesome and very helpful! :) I am using the 3rd grade BJU hard drive this year and loving it! My daughter went from English being her least favorite subject, to loving it!! Good luck! -Lindsay
  10. I didn't read most of the other posts, but here is my experience. We did it for evening devotions when my children were 3, 5, and 7. I found that after that year, my children really knew soooo much more about God, who he was, salvation... It was wonderful!!:) It may seem a little dry to some, or long, and does not have tons of pictures, but it is worth it's weight in gold! My 3 year old boy told his church nursery worker, that he had learned that God knew everything. So God already knew that ...... and went on to tell her past events that God already knew about before they happened. Sorry to ramble... It's a great book! :)
  11. My 8 year old has enjoyed: Encylopedia Brown series Mandie book series Katie Hooper series The Littles series Boxcar Kids Beverly Cleary American Girl Lighthouse Detectives Hope this helps!:)
  12. Wow! I just gave my first grader (6yrs) her first spelling test. Her words were bit, hit, set , wet, etc...
  13. I totally agree with Angel! BJU Is awesome! :) Not really fill in the blank, but a great education and alot easier than some curriculum. It is textbook style learning. The workbooks for each subject are colorful and easy for the child to do! Usually it is about 1 workbook page a day per main subject ( math, English etc..) and is easy to rip out and give to the child. I did ACE as a child and really did not care for it. It seemed very confusing to me. It may be a perfect fit for someone else, but that is just my experience. Good Luck!:grouphug:
  14. BJU Math and English! These were my daughter's worst subjects until we switched her this year. They are colorful and very hands on! :) She told me yesterday that English was her favorite subject now..and that she didn't mind math anymore. That's a BIG improvement!! Yeah BJU!
  15. We are using the BJU k5 hardrive and ETC for my little guy this year. He will also be listening in to his big sister's History and read a louds! :)
  16. I pay 12.50 for my first daughter , and half that for my second. They take piano lessons once a week, 30 minutes each time. Their teacher is awesome! She told me most people here in PHX charge up to 30 dollars a lesson. Shew! So I end up paying 75 dollars a month for both girls. Pretty good deal ,after I have seen some prices ! :) Good luck finding a teacher! -Lindsay
  17. I actually went from Abeka Language 1 to Bob Jones English 2. I worked great! My daughter learned nouns, verbs, etc.. which she would not have gotten with Abeka 2. :)
  18. I am myself switching to online BJU math 3 for my daughter. She has been in Abeka Math since k, although I did try some Saxon last year. Big flop for her. :( Anyways.. I have had my 2nd daughter in both BJU math for k and now for 1st grade and I absolutely love it! I will be curious to see any of the other responses to this post!:)
  19. Hello there! Right now, we are going through the book - Leading little ones to God. It is a great book that teaches children who God is, and also what His purpose was down here on earth. Wonderful book! My 4 year old can sit and listen to it! It takes maybe 10 minutes a day. We actually do it at night before bed. Very comforting. So sorry you have had a rough experience trying to teach your children about God. Just remember, people, no matter what religion they are, are going to fail you, but God never will. :0) Hope this helped a bit! -Lindsay
  20. Hello there! Actually, I have Sonlight's LA 1 and 2. I think the LA 1 would be a good choice for your soon to be 2nd grader. If you are wanting help in the phonics area, you are not going to get much in the sonlight LA. That is why they recommend you use explode the code. The Sonlight LA has copy work, and teaches more grammar. Examples: Put a or an in front of words, alliteration, alphabetical order etc.. The core 1 readers, IMO, are really good as well. Here is another idea. You could always get readers for him, at the library or used online or where ever you chose, and use the explode the code 1-3 books along with Susan Bauer's First Language Lessons. Just some thoughts. Hope they help. :)
  21. Hello there! I use Abeka k4 for both my daughters. I actually did the dvd course. It was a great foundation, but I found it was a little much for them about half way through the year . Alot of writing as well. My son is doing the BJU k4 online this year instead of the Abeka k4 that his sisters did . It gives me time for the two older ones while he is being "taught". It is only an hour long each day, but they teach the child numbers, letters and sounds, and the best part.. listening comprehension. If I had to do it again, I would have all my children do the BJU k4. Just my opinion though.:)
  22. I definitely think the mandie books series is a great idea! :) Also, there are some great books from Journeyforth Publishing. Also, the Katie Hooper books are great as well, but might be a little young for her. Good luck with this search. It's fun to see our children engrossed in good books! :)
  23. I can definitely say that my 6 year old dd improved in her reading and handwriting. My 8 year old dd in her math, and my 4 year old in his listening skills. Isn't it great to see how our children grow and learn? :)
  24. I know BJU Math does the 9+5 or 10+4 = 14 and other such problems like adding doubles, add on one etc.. Just a thought for you. :)
