Could modern day American survive?
shell in SC replied to choirfarm's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Then he was probably called cold and insensitive to allow people to starve. Isn't that how we view people today when talk about cutting off entitlements like that? Unfortunately the framers wrote the Declaration of Independence to sound like we are all entitled to "life liberty and the pursuit of happiness" in this country. So if they can't/won't do it for themselves they think it's our responsibility to provide for them. -

Wow, when you look at it that way. . .I guess nothings changed. Although Colonial Americans did work to take over everything when it wasn't handed to them. -

Yep, you're right, but eventually they learned to take care of themselves. . .don't see that too much today. -
That's not true BO himself has defended his "redistribution of wealth" philosophy. The words "spread the wealth" have come out of his mouth. The other side had NOTHING to do with that.

Could modern day American survive?

I don't think so either. . .native born peoples would be thriving and we (non-native born decent) would be in the minority. We'd step one foot on this land and see the native americans with their established communities and run back on the boat. After we demanded food, shelter, etc from them and not understand why that would be a problem. -
If you find an answer that makes sense, please let me know cause I'm still looking! I agree with 100% on this. DH and I did the responsible thing and got a normal mortgage (not one of those interest only things or adjustables) but our tax money has to go help people that made stupid decisions without looking to the future. . .What??? America is not that stupid. Americans are playing the system, and those of us that are honest people have to foot the bill. And then to have those that make more money pay more so that the lower income people can have more. . .What is that all about. Heck, if we'd have known that, our dh's should have just gone to flip burgers down the street instead of waste all the time and money getting advanced degrees. . .if we'd have only known. . .hindsight you know. Sometime I think we're the stupid ones for making sensible decisions! Sorry, that turned into a vent. . .it just frustrates me to no end that people think they're entitled to something just because someone else has it.

my former pastor publicly apologized
shell in SC replied to Denisemomof4's topic in General Education Discussion Board
Denise, I'm not sure what has gotten into clergy lately. I don't know the specifics of your situation, but I will be praying for peace and healing for you all. Our pastor is having some authoirty issues lately it seems, so I can relate to having problems with a pastor. hang in there. -
For those who work FT and/or go to school!
shell in SC replied to Renee in NC's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I think you're being a little to optimistic about the situation. DH will work nights, so when will he sleep? During the day when he's supervising DC's school work and taking care of kids? You are going to take classes/work PT, which is the equivalent of a 40 hour workweek. You're going to have to study, prepare lessons, do housework (B/c you said DH wasn't going to take on more responsibilities), laundry and cooking. And find time to sleep. Map out your plan on a piece of paper. Actually make a time line for a day and try to work it out on paper. Schedule in everything and see if it looks doable. . .realistically doable. . .not doable for Wonder MOM. Make sure you schedule time to clean, do laundry, cook, plan lessons, etc. I think you'll find that with young children it's not going to work as well as you hope. I really don't mean to be negative, but I didn't work FT and homeschool till DD was old enough to stay home alone during the day and responsible enough to do HW during the day. We had to do school work in the evenings while DH cooked supper and cleaned up the dinner dishes. After kids go to bed I was making the next days lesson plans. It wasn't ideal. . .it allowed for no flexibility (IE-going out to eat one night or having to run an errand after work.) I think at this point you can't do all that and still be dedicated to homeschooling. We all knew when we decided to hs that it would require sacrifices. . .let's face it, no one can have it all. And this may be one of those times. I wanted to take classes too when I was homeschooling DD's high school, but I knew that realistically I would never be able to study. HTH! Keep us posted! shell -
In light of Apiphobic's "Confession"...
shell in SC replied to Wendi's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I agree. . .we do, somehow, find a way to be respectful yet opinionated. Over the past day or so, i've come to realize that there are lots of groups out there that can't do that. I'm amazed that we can share our views passionately yet still not anger those who disagree with us. I guess it's because we talk about issues, and keep it there. We don't belittle a person b/c of what they believe. I'm glad we're all here. . .and I know we haven't always been that way, but I also know that some of you exercise GREAT restraint that shows a maturity not found on other message boards. That is the end of my rant/observation. -
This amazes me more than the groups thing..

It's very strange, but I was thinking the exact same thing last night (and I hadn't even been online and viewed the revived thread.) I was wondering why would you and why haven't you? -
Me, me, me. . .pick me!!!!! I wanna be snarky too!!!!! I know that had absolutely nothing to do with any topic anywhere. . .but I wanna be snarky.

Spin off of Make up Poll...What brand do you use?
shell in SC replied to ummix3's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I basically mix and match between Estee Lauder, MAC and Beauticontrol. Foundation can come from any of the three, Powder EL or BC, BC eyeliner (their liquid eyeliner is the best!), BC eyeshadow, Estee Lauder Lipstick, BC or EL lip liner, EL or BC blush and mascara from any of the three. -
If you DID want to go that far, the Shrewsbury, PA area markets to Baltimore commuters. I THINK it's about 45-50 minutes from Balt. maybe a little closer and it's a smallish town. It has a Walmart and grocery stores and restaurants (and a GREAT farmers market with lots of homemade PA dutch goodies!). Shell in SC (Formerly from York, PA)

kids answering the phone...
shell in SC replied to CalicoKat's topic in General Education Discussion Board
My mom called one night, DD told her that I was at a meeting with the governor. The Real Story: I was taking an evening PolySci class on campaigns. The governors chief of staff was the prof. Most of the time it was easier for us to meet him at the state house and have class in a conference room there than for him to run over to campus for class. No big deal really. I did get to go in the governors office once, but never had a meeting with him. -
There's a facebook WTM group. . .I haven't been on facebook for awhile, but I remember there being one.

Apologia Physical Science experiment question...
shell in SC replied to Mamaw's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I feel for ya. . .been there and done that. I don't remember the experiment or what we wound up using though. I vaguely remember it being very awkward b/c of size or shape. Do you have any educational supply stores around you? We have an Educational Wonderland. . .and ours carries school lab supplies. GOOD LUCK!!!!! -
DS and I have Sansa's (Sandisk). We like them. . .no complaints. The headphone jack is on the bottom though so some people don't like that. I don't mind it, I just turn it upside down and put it into the sleeve that comes with it and put it in my pocket. They are more affordable than an Ipod, and the folks at best buy said they thought it had better sound than and Ipod. HTH! shell
