  1. http://blessedlittlehomestead.org/reality/ If I were her, I would take this down :( I mean at what point do you take your babies in a car to sleep for your ideals? Not because you have to but because you want to? Where was her dh?
  2. Well, I was worried it was not really a real one, more of a bucket or...something....the outhouse thing didnt look.... like it belonged in a national park, yk? And plus with the animals? Did they have pens for them? And kids running around playing in the mud.....they said they were in compliance with that (I thought) so all that was grossing me out.
  3. subbing so I can read when it the mere thought of hosting this party does not overwhelm the heck out of me. I wish she was more like me lol and just wanted a small dinner out or something.
  4. http://www.wbko.com/home/headlines/Off-grid-Couple-Faces-Hearing-to-Regain-Child-Custody-303273911.html This article states he has not lived with them for many years and was abused as a small child. ETA_ "He said county investigators signed off on the sanitary system today." That is good I suppose. Their composting toilet or whatever she calls it was really bothering me. If it is true. 5. My first thought was they need to go rent a place that already has four walls and plumbing, dad needs to work and they can save up to fix this property up. eta- mom already works from what i understand. When I saw the pictures, I gasped. out loud. I am all for independent living but this is not what I picture at all. Like others, my dad's chicken coop looks nicer and I am not exaggerating.
  6. That sounds like a logistical nightmare! I wonder if the teacher even wanted to deal with all that chaos? lol. I laughed at the non squished banana also.
  7. I was seriously in a place for a couple years where you could not say "scotch tape" bc we couldn't name alcoholic beverages  I have had 2 times were other children corrected my children for saying "oh my god" the first time it was my 9 year old and he had no clue why, I explained it later, and he was fine. The second time it was my younger, I was not there in the co op class and the corrector apparently went on and on and on about him saying a "bad word". This particular child has anxiety about that so by the time he got over that I was annoyed with the little girl who corrected him, me for obviously saying it so the child copied it, and the teacher for not stopping the whole thing and explaining how different families have different definitions of bad words. (it was a secular co op fwiw) I do remind my children occasionally not to say that out in public as people get offended.
  8. I know what you mean about accuracy of tests. My ds took the woodcock Johnson and I was there to hear his answers...in one section, he had to think of a wrod to fill in the blank. He kept saying "actually I think that is fine the way it is". I had to just start reading my book bc the tester said " you mean you pass?" and he said "I mean the sentence makes perfect sense without adding anything"
  9. Thank you! After thinking about it some, I think I am worried about ds being so internal lately- but really how would testing help with that? I also worry some about his motivation.
  10. Did you find that helpful? Why did you do it? How has it helped you/your student? Just read something that made me rethink my decision not to bother. Ds is 12....
  11. Those are horrible. What happened to the little fellow (from the fair)?
  12. :grouphug: Some people suck. I am sorry tht was said to you :grouphug:

We are going in a few days :leaving: and I have still got to find something to sleep on. Dh is not at all sold on the idea but ds8 is so excited he is going to try so I would like something comfortable. Plus I like to be comfy :coolgleamA: Should I go with an air mattress and some kind of foot pump? I am worried about holes. We have the worst luck with those things! So maybe a cot or a pad? But which one? We have amazon prime and tomorrow I can go to some stores if someone can point me in the direction on what to get. I have been looking at reviews. Part of the problem is I would love for it to be a "thing" for our family but since we have never been I hate to shell out a ton of $$$. OTOH I worry if dh is miserable, that will be the end of that. It is not, btw, completely my fault that this came up so suddenly. lol. The kids have sleeping bags (that is ok right?) We are going with people so mostly my concerns are sleeping but if you have other tips etc, I would be pleased and grateful. Thank you!
  15. I have not read all the responses but my second child went through a period of wanting to go to school especially when we were going twice a week for speech. My response was always a calm and happy "in our family we do not go to school until (I think I said high school)" and in this case I would add "but dude if you want to be with friends more often, that is totally possible. Should we invite so and so? For a play date or for a learning thing? And if he said "you are not teaching me enough" I would cheerfully say what do you want to learn? nad then we would go for it. ETA- but if you were to enroll him for the rest of this school year I do not think the world would stop turning either. I mean, it might help. Because after rereading it sounds like you may have already tried a lot of these things.
  16. Maybe I will do this next week. I have been toying with the idea of taking some time off and this looks fun! lol It can be done after easter right?
  17. I think either is a great idea. If cash is easier for you, do that!
  18. :grouphug: I am glad you are going to get help
  19. I will go check it out Scarlett. I did not see it. 2 weeks and 8 pounds! great!
  20. Well, I have finished scanning and all in all it does not seem too crazy I do not think. Mostly no sugar, whole foods, no dairy or grains. So- vegetables, fruits, nuts, proteins, and certain oils. Fiber. Big on that one. He also wants one to take a "detox" bath lol. And has focus questions for the day, journaling, and mindfulness, exercising....It is not anything new new. I kinda like the black/white eat this for breakfast, lunch, dinner. Lately I have been really watching it (I thought??) but I have not lost anything. And I am surprised! So either I am not as aware as I think I am or I am eating the wrong things or...?...I am a lost cause lol. I am really bad about artificial sugars and he makes it clear in this book that they are just as bad if not worse than actual sugar. Not sure what I think about that yet. Also not sure what I think about the coffee. Give me something! lol. One part I do question is he says it can turn around type 2 diabetes and heal inflammation. He also compares the food industry to drug dealers which seems a little overkill, lol. Walkermamaof4-I will check that one out also! Thank you!
  21. I will check it out! Thanks!
