  1. But- I say to my children all the time- it's just stuff...(bc they get upset when they spill milk or break a glass or whatever). We still clean it up. We still fix it! I do not think saying in the heat of the moment what she did means she now how has be burdened with 2 times the cost of the table. What is wrong with -gently- discussing it? I mean what is the alternative? Forgive the incident...adn then...what? Have the child over and next time he breaks something else and then what? At what point does it become "acceptable" to expect the parents to make reparations. Clearly, it is not the kids fault.... And then there is the suggestion of not meeting at the house but that is "unwelcoming" and the mom wants to get out which is understandable, and not be in public.
  2. It is so nice to hear that there were others who were secretly relieved when they moved up the alphabet chain. I also love having a "normal" last name now  But, even know that. I would not make a big deal. And I have a sensitive second grade boy. Id probbly talk about the caboose. lol.
  3. Does anyone have a list of animal pictures from this book? Or other resources? TIA
  4. Yes! I did that once and it was returned! Picked it up at customer service. Hope that's how yours turns out!

What's wrong with me?! Cramps- all over lower and upper abdominal Sore breasts- this one is really bothering me, esp right.... Nausea - no vomiting Period ten days ago. This all started a week ago. Kinda off and on so not all day long .
  7. Mine loved it also! Told me if he has twins he might name the noun and verb LOL
  8. So- I am sorry. There is so much infor out there. I was under the impression that PANDAS was the *cause* of OCD like behaviors that a child had. Jennifer, does you child only get those when he/she is sick? Otherwise she is not extremely anxious? I have been told to look into this so have done some reading. I kinda doubt that our ped would be one to "believe" this. My understanding OP was once they had it, they had it. But they can learn to control the behaviors....but i could be totlly off base b/c I just started reading up on it.
  9. Listening in for ideas. I really struggle with this one- STILL. My youngest is 7 and finishes school much quicker than my ds12. He can amuse himself obviously but he wants his playmate back.
  10. This made me smile this morning! How wonderful for you and your family!
  11. As an adult, I have been suicidal twice. Once was truly awful. I remember making a deal with myslef- I planted some bulbs and until they bloomed I would try. Try the medication - when they bloomed if i still wanted to, I could then do it. For years those flowers would bloom and I would feel sad and grateful - They are a reminder of a very painful time. The second time, I had a much better support system in place so, while upsetting, was not as....hard. My vote: neither brave or cowardly but just sad. To the people who mention choice, I wonder what personal experiences you have with trauma and depression and anxiety? Most of my family (other than my husband) and many of my close friends (after nearly 6-7 years) have no idea of my struggles. I think people would be shocked honestly. I graduated from college, had a job, etc. Now I homeschool and am doing the soccer mom thing. I hate to think that "you" are using people like me to say it is a choice when the reality is, I was seriously depressed but would not have told anyone.--duh. they will stop me and then what will I do-- But from the outside? Shoot! Success! (from where I came from and what you would expect. many of my contemporaries lived in cars or were in jail for example) Anyhoo, that is my personal experience :o
  12. I tried to do notebooks today and ended up giving up. Overwhelming! This weekend is going to be b u s y !

    Beach meals!

I think there are about 20 people. We take turns cooking each night. So far, people have said lentils, stuffed shells, and party chicken so those are out LOL. ETA- I shall check out the other ideas! Sorry my OP was not specific enough :-)
  16. esp for a crowd- esp for paleo! But anything will do *grin* I love to hear what you all have to say!
  17. I am really excited! i just hit the PAY button for TOPS "get a grip". I want Primary Lentil but that looks like work lol. I think ds7 will love this :-)!!!! Ds11 is technically past the info but he may still enjoy it. Yay!
  18. When I taught we used ziploc bags to send home books, flash cards, and games. We used them to store many of the same items in the class also. We had phonics cards and math manipulatives also that we stored. We also had communal supplies which many kids hated. 30 glue sticks?!?! wow. LOL.
  19. I did not know about the other one,PANS. Will have to look I to that. Songsparrow, not that I know of offhand. I will have to think on it.
  20. I have been wanting to update on this but I am never sure what to say. Some days I think things are looking better (like today)- we went to the beach and he only had one 'bad thought' and a few at home- lately that has been the thing, bad thoughts. Things like he thought he liked me better than daddy or the other way around, hates his brother, calling people names, etc. Yesterday though was bad. He asked to go to sleep in the early evening bc he said it was the only time that the bad thoughts stopped :crying: . I have a few books still to read- haven't come in yet from the library. I may just order them if they do not hurry up. We have read some books together also. I did look up PANDAS but from what I can understand the treatment regime is the same as "regular" OCD? (I am not dx my son with that understand, just asking). Sorry things are hard for you and your little one too Jen. :grouphug: Hope your dr appt was helpful. I did not see the other thread. Thank you for all the articles and book recs! They are helpful <3
  21. My library has this one http://www.amazon.com/Bulfinchs-Mythology-Illustrated-Retelling-Accompanied/dp/1556708254/ref=sr_1_2?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1407638956&sr=1-2&keywords=bullfinch%27s+mythology I really hope to find it for myself! :-)
  22. If you are scheduled to teach, and it is less than a couple weeks before classes start or hard to find a teacher it might be an issue. Otherwise I do not think anyone takes it personally. We did just that and have liked it so much I have not gone back! We still see everyone just not every week.
