  1. I am looking at using BJU American Republic for my 8th graders this year. I love the living history type reading, but I'm overwhelmed. I would like to hear all the positives and negatives of this curriculum for history. I would like something Christian, challenging and informational. Does BJU fit that? I plan on having them read books off the sonlight list for core 100 and we will be doing LLATL and Writing Trails for American History. I've got Science covered with Apologia physical. History is the one that I just keep coming back to and changing. Insights and thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!!!!
  2. Wow, thank you for the reminder. I always think of Tylenol as safe. I will be more vigilant. I will also pray for her. How devastating.
  3. I have b/g twins. I would have loved those. I use to call mine when they were toddlers "search" and "destroy".
  4. President to address ps students ds 6 finding me a husband and Non dairy milk for 1 year old Sunblocks, suntans and vitamin D
  5. I'm pretty protective, I would say no. Of course I don't even like my kids out front without me.
  6. I don't have a strong willed son, but I do have a strong willed daughter. I would have to agree that 4-6 were the tough years. 7 is getting better, but I sure hope it continues to get better. She is the reason I may or may not survive homeschooling.......
  7. Misty, I'm praying for you. :grouphug: Medical issues can put a lot of strain on a family. I know school just started, but maybe take a few days to sit and read together, love each other, and pray together. It's a growing time for your family. This is the "real" life that homeschoolers have to learn, vs. learning it when they are 22 and realize who their true friends are. I pray your husband gets the MRI and the medicine he needs to shrink the tumor. I have one, but Pituitary tumors in women are usually different then the ones that present in men. Praying for you. PM me if you have any questions, although my knowledge only comes from the woman side.
  8. :grouphug::grouphug: I understand! Yes you do have the right to privacy. Yes you do have the right to you own family secrets. Stand you ground! I think my MIL went to the same MIL school yours did :)

  10. I have been there before. I see your oldest is 5. You can't screw up kindergarten as long as you are reading, reading, playing and teaching simple math. You really can't! I know you love sonlight, but they can be spendy. Give http://www.amblesideonline.org/ a shot. I would suggest you could do this without anything more than a library and some paper. Handwriting Math (simple, counting, adding, taking away) Learning to read (starfall.com) read lots of books to her and play some fun games Go on nature walks, look at the animals, plants, sky. Talk...read...you can do it!
  11. Personally I don't see any reason why you can't teach your children about other religions. I teach my kids about them, and why we disagree with them. I want them to be prepared to hear, and able to defend their own beliefs. Right now I inform them why we believe the way we do, but someday they will have to make it their own. If I can give them the information and tools now, they will hopefully not be fooled later. I am most concerned that this judgment could be used against homeschoolers who teach their children any form of religion.
  12. What about a being a foreign exchange student? What about People to People Student ambassador http://www.ptpi.org/programs/StudentAmb.aspx I would have had so much fun had I been able to finish high school early. The choices are endless.
  13. I took the quiz, it said I'm 84 As a 1930s wife, I am Very Superior However, I doubt any of that. :)
  14. I'm also waiting to see what others have to say. I'm curious. :lurk5:
  15. Nice Job! I love it when kids know how to learn something they really want to learn. After all, that is all I want from my children when they grow up. To have enough passion to find out how to learn what they want to learn.
  16. I would say to talk to the coach. My DD 7 when she was switched to the pre-team level had a little bit of a personality conflict with the new coach. She came from a bubbly friendly girl to a no personality, rough around the edges coach. My daughter started to pull the, I don't want to go, I'm too tired routine. One day, she came out crying wanting to quit. NOT a normal thing for my little spunky girl. I decided to just ask if we could move her back to level 2. As I was doing that the head coach/owner came running out. She had been watching the dynamics playing out for several weeks. We moved her to a new coach in the pre-team girls and now my daughter can work with both coaches no problem. I think it was anxiety, and getting use to different personalities. It really had turned her off. I have always stood by the fact that when it is not fun, and becomes something she really doesn't want to do we will quit. HOWEVER, we won't quit right away. I will really watch and make changes if need be, but won't quit on a whim. If after many weeks, talking with the coach, and just knowing and talking with my DD, we will make that decision. Ebb and flow really do happen in anything. Pushing through those rough times is maturity and something you need to do in real life. When you have given your best shot and working though it, if you still feel your done, then your done.
  17. I have so many that I love. Here is the one that I have been singing in my heart this week. Higher Ground I’m pressing on the upward way, New heights I’m gaining every day; Still praying as I’m onward bound, “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.†Refrain: Lord, lift me up and let me stand, By faith, on Heaven’s tableland, A higher plane than I have found; Lord, plant my feet on higher ground. My heart has no desire to stay Where doubts arise and fears dismay; Though some may dwell where those abound, My prayer, my aim, is higher ground. I want to live above the world, Though Satan’s darts at me are hurled; For faith has caught the joyful sound, The song of saints on higher ground. I want to scale the utmost height And catch a gleam of glory bright; But still I’ll pray till heav’n I’ve found, “Lord, plant my feet on higher ground.â€
  18. I use cream of potato, but I may just try those above recipes. YUM!
  19. I would just say thank you for "bringing" us clothes. I appreciate your thoughtfulness. If she is elderly, it's possible she can't see very well. Some people who are elderly grew up in the depression time. She may have found them free, and wanted to pass them on to help you out. I have known many elderly people who have done just that. Babies grow fast anyhow, you could easily be out of those sizes in a month. Then it won't matter. I would make it a point in your thank you to let her know your baby is set for years. That should ward off any more donations.
  20. My two oldest kids have cell phones. We got rid of our land line and they also started taking a music class at the PS. I did not want them to not be able to get a hold of me. I also would not let them stay at home, even for 10 minutes because of not having a phone to call if something happened. If we had a land line, I may have waited longer. Our rules : 1: no texting with out permission, and they pay for the texts with their allowance 2. no calling anyone except mom or dad without permission They have been very responsible so far, however I reserve the right to take away phones if the rules above are ever disobeyed and then they must go with me if I have errands to run.
  21. OH, I'm so sorry :( I will pray for you. That must be miserable.
