I am looking at using BJU American Republic for my 8th graders this year. I love the living history type reading, but I'm overwhelmed. I would like to hear all the positives and negatives of this curriculum for history. I would like something Christian, challenging and informational. Does BJU fit that? I plan on having them read books off the sonlight list for core 100 and we will be doing LLATL and Writing Trails for American History. I've got Science covered with Apologia physical. History is the one that I just keep coming back to and changing. Insights and thoughts would be appreciated. Thank you!!!!

Wow, thank you for the reminder. I always think of Tylenol as safe. I will be more vigilant. I will also pray for her. How devastating. -

I have b/g twins. I would have loved those. I use to call mine when they were toddlers "search" and "destroy". -

I'm pretty protective, I would say no. Of course I don't even like my kids out front without me. -
Shout out for encouragement and prayer.

Misty, I'm praying for you. :grouphug: Medical issues can put a lot of strain on a family. I know school just started, but maybe take a few days to sit and read together, love each other, and pray together. It's a growing time for your family. This is the "real" life that homeschoolers have to learn, vs. learning it when they are 22 and realize who their true friends are. I pray your husband gets the MRI and the medicine he needs to shrink the tumor. I have one, but Pituitary tumors in women are usually different then the ones that present in men. Praying for you. PM me if you have any questions, although my knowledge only comes from the woman side. -
:grouphug::grouphug: I understand! Yes you do have the right to privacy. Yes you do have the right to you own family secrets. Stand you ground! I think my MIL went to the same MIL school yours did :)

I have been there before. I see your oldest is 5. You can't screw up kindergarten as long as you are reading, reading, playing and teaching simple math. You really can't! I know you love sonlight, but they can be spendy. Give http://www.amblesideonline.org/ a shot. I would suggest you could do this without anything more than a library and some paper. Handwriting Math (simple, counting, adding, taking away) Learning to read (starfall.com) read lots of books to her and play some fun games Go on nature walks, look at the animals, plants, sky. Talk...read...you can do it!

Has anyone seen this court ruling?

Personally I don't see any reason why you can't teach your children about other religions. I teach my kids about them, and why we disagree with them. I want them to be prepared to hear, and able to defend their own beliefs. Right now I inform them why we believe the way we do, but someday they will have to make it their own. If I can give them the information and tools now, they will hopefully not be fooled later. I am most concerned that this judgment could be used against homeschoolers who teach their children any form of religion.
