  1. I agree that most of this list would fit better in a history or human geography course, since we are discussing cultural landscape.
  2. I want to change how I eat because I am not feeling very energetic- How have you jumped started a diet or nutrition change?
  3. I want cute signs that say lettuce and various veggies on them. What have you done to make cute signs that last through the weather?
  4. Can I just be totally honest? I have taught at a well respected university and at local community college. I would be careful sending my kid to any community college after that experience. It was a complete mixed bag of problems, and I found many of the kids to be just well plain (trying to think of a nice word)....let's say not kids I would let any of my children hang out. Maturity has a lot to do with it. If you are sending them at 16 vs 19 that is two totally different things. AP is so much more respected, but a harder road. I think you would have to decide what your child's college road is going to be. The kids from the university had their problems as well, but the level of respect and decency was so much greater. FWIW- good luck deciding!
  5. Congrats that is awesome I just got back from WDW on Monday! We had a blast. 6. I have that same deal going on but I have to say it is also maturity and age. I cater each program. I look for the strengths and build on them. Both of my kids learning styles are different and that makes a huge difference! Find what works for them and go for it.
  7. outside now that the weather is fabulous? I am a big fan of the outside, but I notice we want to be outside all day. We have to kick it in full gear to finish up school now. So how do you keep the kids in the cage all day long? :)

  12. We are making a quick trip to DC next week and I thought I would put together a study unit of American Govt for an 8th grader. What ideas do you fabulous women have for me?
  13. Do you attend a co-op? What are your thoughts and feelings for belonging to the group? Do you live in a big city, small town etc? Is your choice more for academics or socialization? What has made your co-op great or terrible?
  14. I am taking my list from the Teaching Company. They have several courses on American Literature and lists all of the books that they think fit this category. There are a couple of different lists and courses-
  15. Every year there is a program or two I just end up not sticking to. What has worked for you this year and what hasn't? What has helped you be able to endure to the end with your curriculum? What are your successes and failures this year?

  18. I feel like highschool next year will just become public hs at home. How do you combat this? How do you bring in energy and synergy, so you are not just a textbook/classroom repeat?
  19. Checking it out right now! Thanks for the imput- We need to meet sometime- I am in Bedford, NH
  20. Ok My kids really want a dog. Can a dog live outside? We live in NH so we are 5 months of cold. Do I have to buy a heated dog house? Really is that even an option. I can't have one in the house. What are my options?
  21. Ok so here is the scoop. My dd (14) has only been reading the classics with the exception of Harry Potter in elem.(modern day classic? ) and The Princess Diaries series for fun. She has spent the entire year reading Dickens, Austin, and other British Classics. Earlier last year, many girlfriends tried to persuade her to read Twilight and she wasn't a bit excited - thought it sounded stupid, and frankly couldn't realize what all of the fuss was about. I was excited she stuck with British Lit all year round. Then last weekend after hanging out with a group of PS friends (all good kids) she started the book. I have to say I was shocked! Now this is stupid I know- but I think what bugs me is the reason she started...help me with this. The reason she wanted to read it: She feels like she can't communicate with normal good kids, because all they are talking about is Twilight and many of them haven't read anything on her reading list. She feels like she is out of it with the crowd and can't converse on the "Twilight level". Should I be bugged by this? So what is a matter with me? Why did this bug me? She snuck the book in the house and read it practically overnight and then commented what a relief it was to be able to read something with such easy language. I said why did you not want me to know...and she said something to the point of...well I didn't think you would let me read it...since it is not a CLASSIC. I don't want her to start going the ways of teen girls and reading teen fluff when there are so many options out there. I know Twilight is a big buzz right now. She has done so well with her reading and her classic list. She is respectful, honest and has high morals. We have talked about morality in movies, lit and tv. So what is wrong with me? I haven't really felt the need to monitor all of her book choices, since she has always made good ones- and we are talking a book here not drugs.....thank goodness!
  22. We went to in PHL last year. We loved and combined it with the iMax Mummies movie:iagree: The exhibit is worth seeing- but we wanted more dead people:)
