  1. This is a nice move in the right direction for high school age students and community college dual enrollment.....We should all applaud ourselves for being ahead of the trend as homeschoolers:001_smile: Good to see part of the nation get on board the thought process. Read it at my blog here http://www.domesticlifestyle.com
  2. I am still decluttering- any updates from fellow de-clutters Thanks for the compliments on the photography- And as for the question of my exchange students- one was a private exchange, yes, she is LDS but we knew the family. The japanese student we do not know it was through a program!
  3. The bag a day can be any size- tonight it was a small rubbermaid of financial papers that I was just sick of......the idea is to just toss daily for one year. I am already feeling lighter! Thanks everyone for joining in!
  4. Do you want to join my experiment? Read on at my blog- I need a support group! haha
  5. We have a couple of opportunities we are looking at in Dallas, TX. What areas/suburbs do you think are the best to live in? Is it so hot you are miserable? How would you rate the cost of living? Gees we are in the Northeast, so anything would be cheaper. Are the taxes outrageous? Is homeschooling popular there? Any thoughts on the school districts? What about the CC programs- my 16 year old has been working on her associates and I am worried about going to a new state. Is there a lot to see and do there? Where do you travel when you want to take a road trip/ weekend trip? Any feedback on what you think of Texas would be great!
  6. Does anyone know the cost- they don't list it on their website. Let's just say for the math portion?
  7. I am wondering what your experience is for Kumon tutoring?
  8. Just wondering what your favorite websites besides WTM are for homeschool. I need refreshers to get me motivated for this fall.
  9. I have done both cities with my kids, no guides and had absolutely no problems. I definitely can give you some tips on both places- we just got back from Paris 10 weeks ago. You will be fine!
  10. I actually wrote about this back in december on my blog after we completed our first semester. My dd is 15 and we have loved it- it was an adjustment though! http://www.domesticlifestyle.com/?p=1475 written on her first day http://www.domesticlifestyle.com/?p=2411 written on the last day of fall Hope our experience helps
  11. Has anyone used it? What has your experience been? Do you find it safe?
  12. This week my dd (15)started CC and it seems to be working out wonderfully. I was a little concerned, since we haven't stepped foot into a school for years. I thought I had dropped her off to a wild pack of wolves. My daughter is answering questions, writing papers, and her confidence has soared with this new experience. Yesterday in an English class, the teacher asked who had read Tale of Two Cities, she raised her hand and she was the only one. They discussed it for 20 minutes. I am glad we spent all of the time on Charles Dickens last year. I advised her to participate, sit on the front row, answer questions and be prepared. She already mentioned that several people forgot their first paper that was due, books, fell asleep etc. I just wanted to share some of my relief that things are going well. I think this route is going to work out perfectly. I am glad we made this choice for part of our high school curriculum.:)
  13. When did your child start CC and what class load did you begin with? What was their initial thought process? Overwhelmed, underwhelmed...etc Did they continue to attend after the first year?
  14. We have had a bundle of rain this summer in New England, I am now barely weeding my garden and it is finally getting hot- really the temps have been in the 70s (rare) most of the summer. We are finally in the 80's, but all my plants are very small-some of them are doing better than others. Should I Miracle Grow them or what? I always get to this point and give up? I notice that many other gardens are not to much further along- Help!
  15. My dd 15 is going this fall, in order to be included in financial aid packages, scholarships etc, she had to take an exam that is part of acuplacer called ability to succeed/benefit. See if they have that? Many people in CC have never gone to highschool or graduated. This might just be the answer
  16. We tried in 8th, but it was just confusing- I will attempt in High School again at some point!
  17. How much credit do you give each semester that a child takes lessons and practices?
  18. Ok Homeschoolers- Many people have been talking to me about putting together a homeschool fieldtrip learning experience to Peru. I have done it and posted it at my blog....... Whose in? http://domesticlifestyle.wordpress.com/ Peru is awesome and this is a great learning tool- Cmon' get on board
  19. Thanks- I have a Nikon D40x and always shoot with my 55-200 lens. I am still a beginner, So I appreciate the compliment! I am just about to purchase a 50mm lens, so I can do more portraits!
  20. :iagree: I don't think it should replace a course, but could certainly be an added supplement
  21. I don't think that it puts a ps student as disadvantaged over a homeschool scout. Most public school things could work right along with the merit badge if you were familiar with them. I am just saying the resources are great for homeschoolers. Our troop lets you work on any merit badge as long as there is a counselor.
  22. I just listed at my blog how I am using all of the worksheets from Boy Scout merit badges in our homeschool program. They are great resources and lesson plans- jump over there and see. There is a worksheet lesson plan for every topic. http://www.domesticlifestyle.wordpress.com How are you using scouts as part of your program?
