Beach body and Shakeology question

First, do people really pay $120 plus dollars for 24 shakes?  Or I guess a 30 day supply if you do the resealable bag? That seems REALLY expensive to me. Do they do samples? I can't imagine spending over a hundred bucks on something I might not even like! (probably should ask my local "coach" about that I guess)

That said, I did my first workout, the Active Maternity 1st trimester and can tell I'm going to be sore. I ordered Country Heat and looking forward to it. First I need to buy a DVD player though...should have done the digital unlock instead but didn't know about it before I ordered. And to access purchased programs on the on demand you have to have a premium membership...not sure if that is a one time fee or monthly?

Normally I go to the gym, but I'm in deadline mode with my writing, and a 30 minute work out turns into at least an hour and a half lost by the time I drive there, get the kids settled in the kids club, use the bathroom, pick a treadmill, get the kids out of kids club, and drive home. So working out at home this month is very appealing, and if I like it I'll keep doing it. I've been waiting for a good country line dancing workout for forever!

DH likes BB workouts but thinks Shakeology is gross and way overpriced. I bought him protein powder for a fraction of what ShakeO costs from our health food co-op, and it tastes so much better. He either uses that or adds whole food proteins/fats (yogurt, ricotta, coconut milk) to fruit smoothies.

Some of the workouts are fun but the shakes are way overpriced. You can get very high quality ones from the store at a fraction of the cost.

Does your library have workout dvds? Mine does and I prefer to rent them rather than buy my own. I get soooooooo bored of them after a few workouts that it seems like a waste. ;)

My sister was a BB coach for awhile and raved about the shakes.  She was offering free samples and sent me two to try.  They were both disgusting! I couldn't even drink them. She sent me vegan ones so not sure if that made a difference?  Anyway, I agree they are way overpriced and even if I loved them, I would not buy them.

It's funny how different people's tastes are!   I've never had a protein/supplement shake that is as good as the strawberry Shakeology.  I hate that it's expensive, but the way I feel (plus my hair and nail growth and health!) when I have it regularly is a pretty big plus.  Definitely find a coach who can send you a sample!  (I'm not one. :) )  Dd and I split the cost and we each only have 3 shakes a week, using a bit less than a full scoop so we save a little that way.

I love 21-Day Fix.  But there are plenty of great workouts online and for way cheaper.  It's just a preference, like most things!

I have not tried Shakeology, but I really like Beverly International's Ultimate Muscle Protein (UMP).  It tastes good, they have a bunch of flavors, you can bake with it, and it has very little carbs.  Great reviews also.  I buy it from Vitaglo so I can get a cheaper price and free shipping (I have to buy three containers). If you have friends that might buy protein powder, see if they will give you a sample.  =)  My cousin and a friend who is a trainer got me hooked on UMP.

My favorite "shake" is chocolate UMP with chocolate PB2 and ice (in a blender). Yum.  Most of the time I just put the vanilla in my morning oatmeal though.

When I was pregnant my ARNP midwife always told me it was fine to continue exercises and athletics that I was doing (barring things that are clearly not compatible with pregnancy, like, um, roller derby) but to not start strenuous things I was new to. Honestly I'd hold off on beach body until you've delivered the baby if the workout you did is making you super sore or is beyond the level of fitness you were practicing pre-pregnancy.

I see so many raves about Shakeology on FB...but I do always remind myself that most of these people are coaches who are selling a product. ;)  I've been reading some online reviews and am interested in a shake called 310 Shake.  Amazon sells it and I've seen it compared to Shakeology.  Never tried it, though.  Still too pricey for me to hit "purchase".

I bet you'll enjoy Country Heat.  I think it's supposed to be a more entry-level program than many of Beachbody's offerings.  (If I could handle country music, I might would be interested. :p  I guess I'll just stick with my Leslie Sansone....wok-wok-wok-wok.) :D

There are so many supplements and herbs in Shakeology that a pregnant woman should get approval (and show the ingredient list) from the doctor before using it.

:iagree:  I picked three of the ingredients of the chocolate Shakeology at random and googled them. One is safe during pregnancy, one should only be used with caution, and another one shouldn't be used at all during pregnancy. More than one of them increase bleeding risk. And that's if taken separately. Also, many of the ingredients interact with prescription medications.

I've never been a fan of these things. They're basically bottled supplements, and unless you do a ton of research, you have no idea what it's going to do to your body.

And in case you needed more of an incentive not to take them during pregnancy, the guy with these credentials:

I'm the Director of Nutrition Content for Beachbody. In addition to my Masters in Holistic Nutrition, I've worked for Beachbody for over 12 years and have co-written and/or concepted most of our nutrition programs, including P90, P90X2, P90X3, 21 Day Fix, 21 Day Fix Extreme, Body Beast, T25, and a bunch of others. I've been answering questions on the message boards for over a decade answering questions on these boards with about 40,000 answers so far.

I also work closely with with our Registered Dietician Ani Aratonians, our Harvard-trained PhD in Muscle Metabolism and Physiology Nima Alamdari, and Steve Edwards (who's, well, Steve Edwards) with whom I bounce concepts off of regularly--and they all agree with me on this point.

Says ABSOLUTELY NOT during pregnancy. And he'd probably know.

The workout I did is actually a prenatal workout, for pregnancy, with plenty of modifications based on fitness level. I don't feel I overdid it, and they did say every few minutes that you should watch your heart rate, an if it was too intense either modify or pause the video to take a break.

The Country Heat one is more cardio, which is more what I'm used to. And should be easy to modify to make it less intense. I won't overdo it, promise. Just bored with my current routine and having a hard time getting to the gym.

Yeah, I should have said I wouldn't do it during pregnancy. I actually told the coach that I bought the workout from that I wanted JUST the DVDs because I already work with a nutritionist, and all the herbs in Shakeology scare me. But my husband drinks a lot of protein shakes, and was curious for him at this point, and maybe me for down the road. But at that price, it would have to be pretty darned amazing! I use Premier protein and my husband used Muscle Milk right now.

Thanks, that was what my initial impression was...the herbs in there are some powerful stuff.
