Does "candy" cover chocolate too? We dont use the word candy in Australia and I always think of "lollies" rather than chocolate when I hear the word.

Dh always buys the kids a chocolate easter bunny, thats all. This year, they asked for a good quality Lindt bunny instead of a cheap quality one, even if its smaller. So we did- they are only about 4 inches tall, but they are Lindt.

We don't do baskets stuffed with candy, if that's what you're asking. We don't do baskets at all. We usually go to my mil's house after church for a big family dinner.

I do buy those eggs that are marshmallow on the inside with a hard candy coating on the outside because I like them and nobody else does.

Each dc gets a chocolate egg and that's it. I don't do Easter presents or Easter baskets. Last year was my first Easter in the US in 8 years, and I couldn't believe all the families that did Easter presents. When I was a kid, I got an Easter basket that had some candy and maybe a couple of small 'stocking stuffer' type gifts, cheapie stuff. I don't give any of that to my kids though. They have enough toys and junk IMO.

Our church does the passion of Christ every Palm Sunday and that is SO moving to me. I cry almost every year. It's the act of knowingly giving up that is POWERFUL!

Easter - yuck! Everyone comes to church who NORMALLY is never at church. It's ugly to me - the crowds - the dress up - for what?? Why aren't they there the other Sunday's of the year? Don't get me started!! :angelsad2:

I sing in the choir - so I'm guaranteed a seat. :tongue_smilie:

My husband and I choose not to go to church Easter/Christmas just because of this. We hate the crowd, being squished, everything about it. That's why we choose a small church in the first place.

We don't do the Easter egg thing but my relatives keep buying them for Miss Tot. I think my dad in particular sees it as a culturally sanctioned excuse to feed her stuff he knows we don't want her having. He seems to think grandparents exist to ensure small children are culturally socialised by feeding them junk food and watching cartoons...

Better he pays for it than me!

:iagree:

Our younger kids get the big nasty cheapo chocolate bunny because to their way of thinking, bigger is better. My older girls, however, have more refined taste than those little kids. We get them a small Cadbury or Lindt or Dove bunny. It's small but mighty.

Well... we might be able to let you go on that one, if you answer the following question correctly:

Do you like Peeps?

Cat

Uh-oh, I'm in trouble! I don't like Cadbury Eggs OR Peeps! However, in my defense, I'd like you to realize that it DOES help there be more for YOU to eat, as I'm not out there hogging them up! You're welcome! :001_smile:

We bought my son a bible his first Easter and my dad sent a bunny larger than me for him ;-)

we don't do the basket thing. or the candy thing. we avoided it for years. We do go to church and do resurrection cookies. Our focus has always been on Jesus and why he died for us.

this year however we did allow the kids to attend the egg hunt at church. My pastor went through the resurrection eggs and my kids knew all of the story! My pastor called tonight so thrilled with their knowledge. Because of food intolerance here we had to dump 3/4th of the candy. But they had fun today.

no baskets tomorrow. no candy from us. Another day in church for us to praise a risen Savior!

My mom gave the boys their candy tonight, and I asked where mine was. :tongue_smilie: I asked her, "Why is it that once I had kids, I all of the sudden became too old for candy?" ;) I sure do like peanut butter eggs.
