prairiewindmomma Posted March 14 Share Posted March 14 How far below freezing? Watering well, Mulching 2-4”, and covering with cardboard or a blanket at night is good to about 20F. history-fan Posted March 16 Share Posted March 16 I have never covered my lilacs. I have probably 40-50 lilacs that surround my property and we get winter temps down to -30 and more. The main thing with lilacs is to deadhead the flowers after they bloom and start wilting. Don’t trim after that or you will lose the next years blooms. They develop their buds in the fall.
