Meadowlark
Okay, please don't throw rotten tomatoes. We are using a mishmash of two different curricula. One says that there are 4, and the other says 5 (with Southern added in). My FIL said he has never heard of the Southern ocean. So, which is it? Are there 4 or 5 oceans in the world? Sarah0000
Both. I teach my kids to say some cartographers say there are five and some say four. It's a valuable lesson to learn that accepted bodies of knowledge differ around the world, through time, etc.
EKS
This may be helpful: https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/howmanyoceans.html Note that there really is only one ocean. Naming the various regions different things is simply a human construct. Edited November 15, 2019 by EKS

You responded Sarcastically, but the NOAA actually says 1 ocean, 4 (or 5 now) Ocean BAsins. https://oceanservice.noaa.gov/facts/howmanyoceans.html
