*****
Hi all, it is time for me to finally do something with my parents' treasures...they had many Catholic items: rosaries, a few medals...I could donate them to a local Catholic Church, but then I got to thinking about Catholic victims in Houston who may have lost many of their own rosaries, etc. I would gladly ship items I have if I knew who might be collecting them in the area. Has anyone heard of any such collections? If not for Harvey victims, anyone else? Thank you!
HomeAgain
Can you contact a church in the Houston area? They may be able to accept or point you in a good direction.
brehon
I'd contact the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston directly and ask them.
SJ.
The Facebook page of either ABC 13 in Houston or KFDM in the Beaumont area lists Catholic Charities and their phone number as a place that is coordinating donations. Maybe they can help?

Guest
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/when-disaster-relief-brings-anything-but-relief/ Not saying to not donate them to Harvrey victims, I would just be concerned that they will rot on a shelf somewhere.

*****
https://www.cbsnews.com/news/when-disaster-relief-brings-anything-but-relief/ Not saying to not donate them to Harvrey victims, I would just be concerned that they will rot on a shelf somewhere. I definitely understand this one! And I am glad they addressed the issue on this, as I have often feared this does happen. I know I don't want to add to this type of disaster and sending money does seem to be the best thing at this time. Thanks for reminding all of us about our donations. I had never seen the news coverage on this...thanks for your reply!
heartlikealion
Honestly, I don't even know what a local church would do with them. Some churches have a gift shop so at least sometimes people know to go to the church to look for items like that, but a lot of times I don't think it would occur to people to ask about items like that. I mean I suppose the church could make an announcement.
Violet Crown
If you donate them to St Vincent de Paul - there is certainly one in your area - they will offer them for sale. SVDP will have a good idea what they're worth, and they have many Catholic customers so the items would move along nicely. The proceeds would go to help many people in need.
