PrincessMommy
My daughter got black grease from a door hinge on her graduation gown. It's cheap polyester...feels like plastic. I really don't think I can use an iron to soak it up with a papertowel. When she was given the gown by her school they were pretty anal about it not getting dirty. They said it needed to be unwrinkled (it was in packaging) so suggested hanging them in the bathroom. Well, it got caught on the door hinge. Ugh. I tried some clorox bleach paste last night. It helped a bit, but it's still there. Anyone got any other ideas? It's white (of course  ). The grad. is in 2 weeks, so I've got time to try some other ideas. Lawana
I would make sure it is water safe by testing a hidden spot. If it is, I would apply laundry detergent directly to the stain and gently rub, then rinse.
Twigs
For cleaning, I would use Dawn dishwashing liquid. I've found that to be the best at getting out oily stains. Are you sure you can't get another one? Here and Here are a couple of sources. (I've never used these, I just found them with google.) The 2nd site has shiny and matte finishes, so be sure to get one that matches. Best wishes.
Caroline
Where is the spot? You might be able to get some white fabric paint and just paint over it. Carbona makes good oil cleaners. They are in tiny yellow bottles. I have found that they work really well. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0040HYC1C/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?qid=1401025362&sr=8-
Seasider
Many graduation gowns ARE partly plastic! That's why there are so many warnings about cautious ironing. http://news.emory.edu/stories/2014/02/er_take_note_graduation_gowns/campus.html Seconding the Dawn dish washing liquid. Ausmumof3
Third vote for dish washing liquid. Hope it works.
happi duck
The gown company might have a website with suggestions.
Pippen
For grease and other stains on marching band uniforms I first try rubbing soap directly into the stain, then Resolve, and if that doesn't work Lestoil usually will take it out. Word of warning on the Lestoil--it takes several washings to get the odor out so use as a last resort on more delicate fabrics.
PrincessMommy
thanks everyone. I'll try all these until something works! I had thought about painting over it, but wasn't sure what would be best. I was thinking white out! LOL. Thanks for all the suggestions.
plansrme
Is it somewhere that you could sew it up to hide the stain? With the fullness of a graduation gown, you might be able to take a pleat of sorts and hide it. I did that once on a costume, and no one ever knew.
