ProudGrandma
how do you find a comfortable one? My kids want me to bike with them, but everytime I go, I end up with a very sore bottom. Is there hope for me??
Rachel
Padded bike shorts help. I would suggest shorter rides more frequently too, work up to longer rides.
Beth in OH
Comfort bikes typically have seats that spread your weight over "ahem" a larger area. Ask a bike shop what they sell. (The seat on my comfort/hybrid bike is very comfortable.)
EKS
If you ride every day for like a week, after that it won't be a problem.
Occasionally
There are seats that have, um, strategic cutouts. They are male- or female-specific. They do help. ETA: Terry bicycles women's seats as an example.
Annie G
Agreeing with padded bike shorts and riding more frequently. Soon you won't have any problem with your seat causing pain.
Desert Strawberry
You can get a cushion for your seat. http://www.amazon.com/Silicone-Thick-Bicycle-Saddle-Cushion/dp/B00CIP0IGQ
Baseball mom
My dh wants a tractor seat for his bike

Bug's Mom
I bought a big, cushy seat for my bike a couple of years ago. It looked funny on my bike, but I can ride more comfortably now. :D I call it my "old lady seat". I then bought a 24" bmx cruiser to offset that. ;P
Lolly
According to dh, who has done a lot of cycling, a smaller narrow seat is more comfortable. According to me, who has not done a lot of cycling, those big squishy seats are most comfortable. So, he has a little narrow seat; and I have a big squishy gel seat. Hikin' Mama
In my experience, you need a big, wide granny looking seat. :) Also, once you start riding frequently, your hiney adjusts and doesn't hurt anymore.
umsami
I bought a padded seat from Target. Took a minute to change it. Makes all the difference. I think it cost $20. On a side note, both of my boys want me to buy them comfy seats too. They hate the tiny little seat that came with their bike.
