That's awful. I don't think there is a truly safe way to drive on ice. Of course, until this thread I'd never even heard of ice tires.

They're a little softer then snow tires so that they're more flexible and sticky; they have better traction on the ice. Of course, you have to get them off right after winter or the heat well wear the treads off a lot faster then snow or all season tires.
