HollyDay
Both dds want a Dr. Who 4th Doctor scarf. I was thinking of knitting them. So, first off, tell me if I've lost my mind. If not, then I could use some suggestions for patterns, colors, etc. I *can* knit. Just not very fast. And reading patterns is a bear for me. So, I appreciate all the help!!!!! unsinkable
I'd buy one...or two...before I'd knit one. And I like knitting! http://www.lovarzi.co.uk/Doctor-Who-Scarf-Official-Lovarzi/dp/B00946N5ZS?source=webgains&siteid=123495

Laura Corin
I knitted the smaller option on this pattern. I substituted blues, maroons and purples, because that's what Calvin wanted. It came out well. L
Mrs Mungo
My sister had someone pay her to knit the original 12' version. She used wool. The cost of the yarn was over $100. Think Geek's version is $50. http://www.thinkgeek.com/product/f0dd/
Occasionally
Even the Yarn Harlot said "never again." Check out her entries from Jan 3-10. I vote "buy them."
Pegasus
DH knitted one for himself when he was a teen. He still has it and now the DDs play with it. Good luck knitting your own!

Cinder
You plan to knit 2 of these scarves? Perhaps consider knitting them both at the same time. You know, color 1 on scarf 1 then color 1 on scarf 2, etc. I have a feeling this might give you a better chance of getting both done. You might be like the Yarn Harlot--never again!--after the first one if you do them separately.
soufflegirl
It's definitely doable - I made one for my sister a year or two ago. The knitting itself is easy; it just seems like the scarf never ends. I'm pretty sure I used the pattern that unsinkable posted, but I used less expensive yarn from Michael's. I want to say it cost about $20-25 to make.
Night Elf
I don't knit so can't help you there, but it is possible. My aunt made one for my youngest dd. I think it's 10 ft. long because we didn't want it too long to be worn regularly without her tripping.
