Blog post about delayed bonding with premature babies

I'm so glad she's on her way home!

My daughter spent 10 days in NICU and we had a hard time with bonding when she was an infant.  Her twin brother came home with me at 2 days, so we never had a gap in our time together. I felt so guilty that I felt bonded to him and not to her.  It was a hard road for sure.  I hope you're able to get to know each other quickly!  I certainly understand the frustration.

More than anything the bonding issue was my most difficult struggle with the twins. They will be 2yo in September and I still don't hold them like I did my other dc (although I do hold them there isn't a closeness that I had with the other dc) and I am not bonded to them the same. It really stinks. I keep waiting for the day I feel "bonded" to them and hope it happens before they realize there is something different. :(

Sigh...it's still hard and makes me cry, darn it all.

Thank you for sharing that post. Your dd is beautiful (seriously, what a cutie!) and I'm glad she's home. I did not have any preemie children, but I did have C-sections and I remember that feeling of unreality, like "is he really mine?" and that disconnect. It took me a while to feel like a "real" mother. Anyway, I hope bonding goes full guns with you now. :grouphug:
