Ottakee
Sunday Night we have about 20 teens and 4 leaders coming here after evening service. I need ideas (other than sloppy joes) for what to feed them. I would like something that could be ready to go when we get home from church and is budget friendly. We will likely do our "trademark" rootbeer floats. Any other ideas? This needs to be a light meal so more than just snacks.
KatieJ
Italian hot beef in the crockpot. Sides of veggies/fruit and chips. Soup in the crockpot ( white chicken chili or a mexican tortilla soup would be my picks) Pulled pork sandwiches.
mereminerals
Some of the favorites that we have done with groups have been a taco bar, baked potato bar with chili, pasta with a choice of red sauce or alfredo, and sub sandwiches. G5052
A taco salad bar. Bowls of chips, rice, meat, beans, salsa, lettuce, and cheese. I loved that as a a million years ago, and mine always rave when they have that at a teen event.
ThisIsTheDay
I am not a "spark people" (lol), but these Buffalo Chicken Sandwiches are what my teens constantly ask for. I use a lot more chicken, and I don't use butter. You can shred it ahead of time. Serve on buns with pickles and extra wing sauce, and celery and ranch dip. Maybe set out popcorn too--easy, filling, inexpensive. And your root beer floats would be an awesome ending.
Annie G
With root beer floats, I'd go the totally cheap route and do hot dogs and chips. They go together well, and can be dressed up with chili, etc. I love all the ideas others have given you, but I'm too cheap to go to that trouble. When we've done hot dogs, we displayed a menu board that listed how to make Chicago dogs, coney dogs, etc. ...giving the kids some ideas of combos. Taco bar and baked potato bars are usually popular, too.
J-rap
We've done a burrito bar, I guess similar to the taco bar! Another thing we like for big groups are stuffed pasta shells. Something like this: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/spinach-ricotta-stuffed-shells-10000001662821/ You can serve it with a tossed salad and garlic bread. Starr
I love my crockpot for after church meals. We have college students here most Sundays. The Buffalo Chicken , wings on a bun, is one of the new favorites.
Tammyla
We usually do pizza for teens. They love it; it's easy to make and clean up after.
runbikeswim
Crockpot of chili and make chili dogs. Or a nacho bar....ground beef, sour cream, melted cheese, lettuce salsa, jalapenos.
Unicorn.
I agree w/ the hot dog or nacho bar. You can keep the dogs warm in a crockpot on low, have some chili and all the fixings ready to go. Easy-peasy.
tearose
My go-tos are pretty similar to others in this thread: tacos--choice of soft or hard shells, meat, shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, cheese, sour cream, taco sauce bbq pulled pork/chicken w/ coleslaw (I make a mayo-free vinegar-y coleslaw that is easy to make ahead of time)
Lady Florida.
Taco bar, pulled pork or beef sandwiches (in the crock pot) with coleslaw or potato salad, a big pot of chili. Pizza for teens is only easy if you order rather than make it, but because of how much teens can eat that gets super expensive.
Ottakee
Thanks for the ideas. We might do a chili dog/hot dog bar with chips and root beer floats.
