  1. My daughter started wearing mascara when she turned 11. She is 12 now and she just asked for a pale pink lip gloss. Most of the time she doesn't even wear it. She just likes that she could if she wanted to. We have discussed her wearing other makeup as she gets older. Makeup is not very interesting to her, but that may be because she has grown up with me formulating and makeup makeup. There are appropriate ways for tweens to wear makeup and it look very natural. The other thing in our house is that with the use of makeup comes the requirement for a skin care routine.
  2. I think this is the final, but knowing me, some things still might change. Math: Working through Lial's BCM this summer. She is very adamant about starting Algebra in the fall. Science: General Science at co-op Writing and Grammar: BJU 7 and meet with teacher once a week at co-op (not a class) Literature: MFW Rome to Reformation along with a few Progeny Press guides thrown in History: MFW Rome to Reformation BIble: MFW Rome to Reformation Latin: LfC B French: French 1 at co-op Logic: Fallacy Detective She has also decided she would love to learn calligraphy, so adding that to the list as well.
  3. I used the DIVE Biology for my son. It has a syllabus that goes with Apologia, Bob Jones and I believe a couple of other options for Biology.
  4. When my son took the ACT last year, we went to the local tag agency and got him a state ID.
  5. Some of the favorites that we have done with groups have been a taco bar, baked potato bar with chili, pasta with a choice of red sauce or alfredo, and sub sandwiches.
  6. We have about 125 kids in our co-op. We pay $20/child building fee for each semester. The cost of the classes vary depending on the teacher. We typically have classes for Elem (Art, Science, History); Middle School (Art, Comp, History, Science, Sign Language, Spanish, Latin, etc.); and High School (Comp, History, Science Labs, Sign, Spanish, Latin, Worldviews, etc.) Our prices range from $50 for Elementary to $100 for High School and are per class/per semester. I think this year with two kids (one MS, one HS) I spent close to $900 between classes and building fees.
  7. I am using this with my 10th grader. He doesn't love it, but it does get done. We are using it as a review though. He opted to not take an Advanced Composition class with our coop this year, so this was the compromise. It gave minimal review the first few lessons and then added in paragraphs. To me, it is nuts and bolts without any bells and whistles.
  8. We have made the trip from Tulsa, OK to the DC area for the past few years for Christmas. Last year we decided to change things up and go through St. Louis instead of taking our typical southern route. The construction was horrendous. I don't know if it is any better this year, but it took us forever to get through it last year. We quickly decided to come back the southern route. We are usually driving straight through, so I don't have any recommendations on places to check out. Have a fun and safe trip.
  9. We have one and I really like it. We bought this one at the beginning of the year from Sams Club for $129. It came with 36 k-cups and my k-cup accessory. With the my k-cup, we use our regular coffee if we run out of k-cups or decide not to buy more. I definitely do not miss my old coffee pot.
  10. Thanks! I tried this with no improvement. I had my computered remote accessed by a pc repair guy here and he is having a problem with it. He is thinking the chipset went out when the drivers were updated. Not thrilled as we just bought this a little over a year ago. (Note to self: ALWAYS buy the extended warranty!) :glare:
  11. I have Windows 7 and installed updated drivers last night to fix a problem with my computer freezing. That was fixed, but now my computer is saying that there is No Audio Output Device Installed. I have tried all the fixes I could find on the computer, short of restoring back to factory settings, with absolutely no luck. Does anyone have any suggestions? I plan on calling a PC repair place this morning. I wouldn't be stressing too much over it, but the kids use the computer for a couple of subjects.
  12. I second using a brow brush and a shadow that is very close to your natural hair color. I've had this happen at a salon once. The pencil looked too unnatural to me, but the brush and shadow combo really helped it look more natural.
  13. If anyone on here is a Pampered Chef consultant, could you please pm me? I am in need of a garlic press and was hoping to find someone that had one in stock. Thanks!
  14. We have had an HSA account for a couple of years. We have really liked the flexibility of the funds being able to roll over each year that they aren't used in full. We first got the HSA when my husband was employed, but were able to keep it when he became self-employed.
  15. Both of my sons have required braces, using different a orthodontist each time. Both of the offices had it in their initial paperwork that braces would not be removed until there was a zero balance. I don't necessarily agree with the policy, but from the friends I have spoken with, this seems to be a routine practice.
  16. I know that around here, a lot of students take cosmetology at the local technology center during their junior and senior years. They have to apply their sophomore year. If they take the course as a high school student, they aren't charged for the program. They have set classroom time and then set time to work on their skills. There are even different competitions they can participate in that will give them scholarship money if they decide to pursue further instruction.
  17. Another suggestion would be to talk to dgd's pediatrician and see if he would be willing to write a letter stating that she cannot be around cigarette smoke, or be in a house where smoking has occurred for health reasons. I had to do that with ds when he was a baby and it ended up with everyone else involved showing their true colors.
  18. Sheila, check the local library. Ours offers Mango for free. Maybe that might help?
  19. I am having trouble with my boys this years. Every year tends to get harder with teens. DD11 is wanting a kindle and a Vera Bradley mini hipster. DS15 has only mentioned a flat screen tv. DS19 hasn't mentioned anything. I am thinking possibly a new pair of Toms, but have no idea for anything else. DH and I are going to get a Smart TV as a joint birthday/Christmas gift. The only present I have purchased is a purse for my sister. I am hoping to get the big items online during Black Friday.
