hsbaby
My ds9 is finally reading a book he loves....The Indian in the Cupboard. I am not exaggerating when I say that this is the first book he has EVER enjoyed. He actually said he loved it *gasp*!! So, now I want to find some along this same line....I guess sort of fantasy. Any recommendations?
Homemama2
There are two more in that series! My boys loved that one too.

mom2scouts
Has he read the The Mysterious Benedict Society series? My 9 year old loved those books and the fourth one just came out this week.
ladydusk
I don't know much about Indian in the Cupboard, but the best boy books we've read include The Jungle Book (I and II) and Little Britches.
Lecka
Maybe Gordan Korman. I look at Amazon author pages -- they will have a little list of similar authors! I poke around on them. http://www.amazon.com/Lynne-Reid-Banks/e/B000AQ3WNQ/ref=sr_ntt_srch_lnk_1?qid=1334361072&sr=1-1 Edited April 13, 2012 by Lecka

SilverMoon
My 8yo boy just finished Charlie and the Chocolate Factory by Roald Dahl. He could barely put it down. Nearly anything by E. Nesbit would be good.
Blossom'sGirl
My oldest enjoys the Redwall books. His younger brother likes them, but they are too thick for him.
caro
These are not fantasy, but my son loved the Hank Zipzer books at that age. They are written by Henry Winkler. There are nearly 20 of them, so they kept him busy for a while! Eva Ibbotson also has some fantasy books that are very well-written. Some are written for an older audience, so be careful. A few of our favorites are Journey to the River Sea, Island of Aunts, and the Dragonfly Pool.
m0mmaBuck
My fantasy-loving son liked The Wind in the Willows and the Moongobble and Me series. He also enjoys adventure-themed books from the Great Illustrated Classics series, especially The Three Musketeers, Ivanhoe, The Mutiny on the Bounty, the Swiss Family Robinson, and Robinson Crusoe. meggie
Alcatraz vs the Evil Librarians. I think there are 4 or 5 in the series. I find them hilarious; I don't know if the humor would go over a 9 yo's head. It's always worth a shot though.
mytwomonkeys
we LOVE my side of the mountain it's actually a trilogy too, but i've only read my side of the mountain. it was my favorite book when i was younger, and my kids have enjoyed it as much as i did. my daughter and i recently read to catch a mermaid. it's really good! i'm confident a boy would love it equally, as the main character is a middle school boy that finds a baby mermaid. it has a similar feel to roald dahl. teeniebeenie6
There are actually five books in the Indian in the Cupboard series. I read the first two when I was little and loved them. I also loved the Redwall series by Brian Jacques and the Pendragon series by Stephen Lawhead. I didn't read either series fully just a few books from each.
