What song(s) make your head go on auto-bop?

Recommended Posts

I just posted a link to one of my favorite head boppin'/dancin' around/toe tappin'/reminds me of college songs (in Pam's 1999 thread.)

There are some songs that always do that to me. They aren't necessarily the best written songs, I may not even like some of the words to them, they're not necessarily the ones that are most meaningful and deep. But they are fun, so much fun. And they remind me of hanging out with friends on the weekend without a care in the world and a beer in one hand and too much makeup and too tight jeans and too loud music and going for pizza at 2am.

Do you have songs like that?

Here are some of mine. I know this list isn't nearly complete, but here's a sampler:

Let's Go Crazy--Prince

We've Got the Beat--The Go-Go's

Come Dancing--The Kinks

Love Shack--The B52's

Should I Stay or Should I Go Now?--Clash

Angel is a Centerfold--J. Geils Band

Okay, I'll stop there. I could go on and on, but I'm dying to hear what you all will say.

You mean songs that get stuck in your head and play over and over and over even if you don't like them at all???

Cindy, I don't think it's safe to post your phone number on the net.

Oh, this is fun! I'll second your "Angel is a Centerfold" and "Love Shack". For me, it is "Oh What A Night" (I know the real title is December 1963 but I always think of it as Oh What A Night) b/c it brings back some really great college memories. Like you, I'm sure I could think of more, but it's late! I can't wait to read others posts!

Oh no, that's Genie's number...

Yeah, doesn't it go "Genie, Genie, who can I turn to?..."

OR is it "Laney, Laney, who can I turn to?..."

Youse girls are cracking me up.

Now stop hijacking my thread because I wanna see some songs. Now!! wink2.gif

Basically anything from the 80's. I found a 70's/80's radio station and play that while packing this week. It sure got me moving. Of course, the dancing breaks did take time away from the packing, but at least it kept me in a good mood. The problem now is that the girls will not be in camp, so I have to go back to grown-up music.

Does anybody know the words to "Blinded By the Light"?

Oh my gosh, isn't that one of those legendary songs because even the guys who were singing it didn't know the words?

I remember reading something a long time ago where they were trying to figure out the words and make sense of the ones they could decipher.

I used to sing something like

"wrapped up like a douche another stoner in the night".

The rest of it is just a jangled mess.... laughtears.gif

My OCD brain picks up on anything I've heard recently and replays it. Constantly. Usually just ONE LINE too, just one friggin line stuck in my head. For days sometimes.

Wrapped up like a deuce

another runner in the night

never liked that song

Well today it's Slow Ride by Fog Hat. My boys were over their friends house and when I went to pick them up they were playing it on the Guitar Hero thing.

I didn't know if I should blaze up a doobie or tell them that that song is inappropriate!;)

My other faves are:

Pink Party Started, anything by Prince, The Ramones Sedated, and, don't laugh, the Rick Astley song Never Gonna Give You Up.

You mean it's not douche? Really? No wonder all the kids loved it when I sang that song in the end-of-the-year talent show.

Kiss (by Prince)

Karma Chameleon

Jesse James (by Cher-this one doesn't make me bop, but does make me sing very "soulfully!"

Come On, Eileen

500 Miles (I think that's the title)

Love Shack (looks like we could all get together and dance to this one)

We Close Our Eyes (by Oingo Boingo)

Old Fashioned Lover Boy (by Queen-it took me a looong time to realize what the lyrics were about on this one, and even knowing, I still can't resist!)

Under Pressure (also Queen)

Don't Stop me Now (also Queen-are we seeing a theme here?)

almost anything by Abba

Girls Just Wanna Have Fun (I have to apologize for this one regularly)

I could go on and on....:D

Anj, did we hang out in high school? :D

Ummm.....

Wake Me Up, Before You Go Go -- Wham!

Come on Eileen --- Dexy's Midnight Runners

Walk Like an Egyptian --- The Bangles

Walking on Sunshine --- Katrina and the Waves

Always Something There to Remind me --- Naked Eyes

Hold Me Now --- Thompson Twins

Footloose --- Kenny Loggins

Chains of Love --- Erasure

OY....I've gotta stop myself and go read the other replies! I was so excited by the thought of '80's tunes that I just dove right in and didn't read anyone else's replies! I'm sure I'll be reminiscing for an hour!

Great thread, Anj!

I think that maybe we did, because your list rocks!! Footloose!! Come on Eileen!!! (I actually have that one as a ringtone.) Woo hoo!!

OMG! Wouldn't it be cool if your name really WAS "Eileen" and you had that for a ringtone? That''d be the coolest!

FOOTLOOSE ! Don't you just LOOVE that soundtrack? OHH! WAIT! Speaking of Soundtracks---- TOP GUN!!!!

"Danger Zone" by Kenny Loggins!

And who didn't make out to "Take My Breath Away" by Berlin??

This is way too funny!

I have a friend named Kathleen and when we were in high school we used to substitute her name for "Eileen" so now that's the ringtone that I've assigned to her on my phone. Cracks me up every time!

"Let's Hear it for the Boy", "I'm Free"...I can remember driving down the road way too fast, singing those songs. Too funny.

"I Would Walk Five Hundred Miles" - The Proclaimers

"I'll stop the World and Melt with You" - Modern English

"Under the Milky Way Tonight" - The Church

"Edie" - The Cult

Various songs by The FIXX INXS

"If I had a Boat" and others by Lyle Lovett

And I don't like it, but the theme song from Madagascar ("I like to move it, move it") won't leave my head. I find myself replaying it in my head while in elevators and waiting at stop lights.:001_smile:

I need you tonight!

Hallucinate

Desegregate

Mediate

Alleviate

Try not to hate

Love your mate

Don't suffocate

on your own hate

Designate your love as fate

A one world state

A human freight

Number Eight

A White Black State

A gentle trait

A broken crate ...

From memory. How'd I do? I had these lyrics up in my dorm room, freshman year.

You fire up that karaoke machine, and I'll hop in my buggy in a New York minute!!

"I gotta have some of YOUR...attention...give it to me!!" (I could have written that song, lol.)

Mexican Radio isn't one of my favorites, but the Wall of Voodoo cover of Ring of Fire is awesome.

I have a lot of songs that make me do the Night at the Roxbury head bop, but I think the toss up would be between Blondie's Heart of Glass and Funkytown. Starry Eyed Surprise would come in after that. ("Oh. My. Starry eyed soooprise...")

This is the soundtrack of my life, LOL!! Down to the Madagascar song!

Seriously, that album of the Proclaimers (containing 500 Miles) is awesome.

"Let's get maaarrrrrried..." (Sung in my best Scottish accent)

It's on par with Chumbawamba's Tub Thumping. :D (DJ Debra...add that to the list for the WTM Dance Party...)
