lynn
We like to mix it up a bit. We will be grilling out steak, with baked potatoes, salad, rolls and hot fudge sundaes for dessert.:D:leaving:
AlmiraGulch
There will probably be turkey at our Thanksgiving celebration (my niece is hosting) but I won't be eating any. There will be another protein, too (either ham, or a beef or pork tenderloin, most likely) and that's what I'll have. Turkey is over rated in my book. Daisy
We've just roasted a chicken the last few years. It's just the four of us and a turkey is TOO MUCH food.
milovany
We now have salmon for Thanksgiving because in our church we're in the Nativity fast by that point (during which we don't consume animal products, although local and church feast days can be special "fish days"). The Pilgrims and Indians probably had fish, no? :001_smile:
Mommee & Baba
We do Turkey on Thanksgiving. It's Christmas that we mix it up :)
vonfirmath
We had ham growing up and I LOVED it.
runmiarun
We have a Low Country Boil with shrimp, sausage, onions, potatoes, and corn. We do the same at Christmas, much to the extended family's chagrin when it's our turn to host.
ChristineW
My cousin is allergic to poultry so my grandma always makes a turkey and roast beef.
Upward Journey
If I had anything to say about it, I'd never cook or eat turkey again. But I don't :glare:
gingersmom
Yuck. I hate eating dead bird. :001_smile: My 12 year old on the other hand thinks he is being deprived since I have only made him 2 turkeys in his young life. I am going to make the smallest one I can find this year just for him. My daughter won't eat turkey either. We always celebrate Thankgsiving at home a few days after the actual day. For the actual holiday we go to family.
DesertDweller
Dh doesn't like turkey, and it seems like the rest of us can live without it. I make a pork loin. It is marinaded in lots of salt, olive oil, garlic, and basil then wrapped in bacon. We still do all the traditional sides with it even stuffing and cranberry relish. Everything seems to go so well with the flavor of the pork. It became our new family tradition.
whiskeywife
This year, DH is deployed and I have no other family members close by. Only oldest DS would eat turkey anyway so I will probably order chinese take out for the kids and I.:D
Rjmakmom
We always celebrate Thankgsiving at home a few days after the actual day. For the actual holiday we go to family. We do this too! Thanksgiving ends up with us spending a big chunk of the day in the car driving from family to family. Nice to see everyone, of course, but not my ideal. We have started having out own immediate family Thanksgiving a week or 2 before.
ciyates
Last year I refused to cook and clean for everyone so we went out and had Italian on Turkey Day! :D
Anita in NC
We are having tofurky. My kids love it and wait all year for Thanksgiving and Christmas so they can have tofurky with mushroom gravy and homemade cranberry sauce.
MeaganS
Turkey is fine, but not my favorite. However, my husband would commit mutiny if I even suggested such a thing. Wow, he might divorce me. (I just told him what I typed, and he said, "It's not mutiny if I'm the captain!" Wow.)
Ali in OR
We've done roast chicken before--it's usually just the 5 of us and a turkey is too much food. The last 2 years we've done a turkey breast that I brine and then dh smokes on the grill. That's good stuff--we'll probably keep doing that. Even just a turkey breast usually gives us more leftovers than we care for.
