momsuz123
Hi all, My 6 y/o is showing a lot of interest in learning about Mozart, and a few other composers. She is a beginning piano player. Any suggestions, ideas? I got some cd's from the library that she is loving. Thanks

Hedgehogs4
Have you seen these? My kids just listened to "Beethoven Lives Upstairs" and they loved it! The music selections are beautiful and the story is very engaging (fiction based on the facts of the composers' lives) I would like to get the whole series, as I just borrowed this one from a friend. Donna
There are some wonderful CDs we have that my dd loved at that age. They tell bits about the composer's real life mixed into a fictional story along with music by the composer. Some of the titles...Vivaldi's Ring of Mysteries, Beethoven Lives Upstairs, Mozart's Magic Fantasy, Hallelujah Handel, and a few more that I can't remember right now. Amie
This is from a great series originally published in the 40's: http://www.amazon.com/Mozart-Wonder-Boy-Opal-Wheeler/dp/0974650536/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1316177862&sr=1-1 (We have Bach and Handel from this series so far.) karensk
The way they weave together the composer's music and a story about him is brilliant! Another great Mozart one is Mozart's Magic Fantasy. For additional music by Mozart, there's a series of CDs called Mozart in the Morning, with an assortment of his music on each CD, usually the more popular stuff. If you're looking into books, Diane Stanley wrote Mozart: The Wonder Child. HTH!

Tracy
A couple books we liked: Mozart (Famous Children Series): We liked this because it was about his childhood. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Getting to Know the World's Greatest Composers): This is a humorous look at his life. My dd6 loves this whole series by Mike Venezia. Tracy
Oh, and I was able to borrow from the library a computer game called Mozart's Magic Flute. I wouldn't spend the money to buy it, but if you can borrow it like we did, it was fun for a while.
tammyw
We've used all of the resources mentioned about and love them all. I just wanted to throw this out there also - I don't know where you live, but look into your local Symphony's offerings. We've been doing the symphony with the kids for three years now. We love it and look forward to it. In San Diego, the symphony has an amazing family series that is just wonderful. It's always really nice to experience the music up close and personal :) You could also check your local Opera company to see if they have The Magic Flute coming up in the near future. And you can also watch the dvd version of it! In addition, start listening to Pandora and tune it to Mozart :) You could also look to see if your city has anything like the following. http://classics4kids.com/ Edited September 17, 2011 by tammyw

I second these! Our library has quite a few of these and my girls enjoy listening to them over and over. For Mozart, there are two. "Mozart's Magnificent Voyage" (in the link above) and "Mozart's Magic Fantasy: A Journey Through the Magic Flute".

Jay3fer
I have printable eBooks for Mozart and a couple of other composers adapted from a Project Gutenberg text file - they're free for download at my site here (scroll down to "composers"). :-) (we also have the Great Composers Coloring Book, which always helps finish off our study of any given composer - either colouring, watercolours, or scanning it and letting her colour it on the computer)
Nestof3
I have composer studies on my blog (left-hand side bar) which offer many resources to choose from including books and audio selections. My most recent favorite are the audio recordings by Ann Rachlin. I like them better than Classical Kids: I blogged about one here: http://ournestof3.blogspot.com/2011/09/papa-haydns-surprise.html

I'm off to take a look :) We're big fans of classical music in our house, so I'm excited to see something new to look into!
LAS in LA
Thanks for all the great suggestions everyone! We've also enjoyed Who was W.A. Mozart? by Yona Z. McDonough And how about the Magic Tree House book "Moonlight on the Magic Flute", if your kids are into that series?
