Mrs. Readsalot
I saw him in Sense and Sensibility a few months ago(yes I am way behind in the movie watching department) and I thouht he was wonderful. I remember him from Robin Hood and really enjoyed his proformance. I have requested Something the Lord Made from the library and it looks like a great movie. I would love to find the movie Truly Madly Dearly , but it seems to be impossible to find. So what are your favorite Alan Rickman movies? sdWTMer
Galaxy Quest, that is, if you don't mind Tim Allen. Richman is just hysterical in this movie though! :D
Erica in OR
I recently saw him in Love Actually and really loved it. He was part of a much larger ensemble cast, including Colin Firth, Hugh Grant, Emma Thompson, and others. If you don't mind seeing him in something *much* less serious, get Galaxy Quest. Rickman plays a classically trained actor who played an alien in a long-ago Star Trek-type TV series and now despises doing personal appearances in costume and repeating his tagline "By Grabthar's Hammer..." GothicGyrl
All of them. What? You were expecting me to pick just one??????????? Ok-- His Sheriff of Nottingham is (I can't say it, it's dirty :) ) umm, Galaxy Quest was funny as heck.. Umm, Snape is ... wait, that's dirty too. How about... no, dirty too... hmmm, Dogma? Yeah, Metatron is clean. :)
Karenciavo
I would love to find the movie Truly Madly Dearly , but it seems to be impossible to find. I know :( A lot of people like "Love Actually" I didn't make it past the graphic sex scene in the beginning (it was the filming of a porno film or something.) He was good as the bad guy in Die Hard if you don't mind Action-Adventure.
nmoira
Truly, Madly, Deeply... oops just saw that was mentioned by the OP.
ncmomo3
He played a great bad guy in Quigley Down Under.
Kate CA
Something the Lord Made I was just going to recommend this one! It was excellent and Rickman plays a southern doctor complete with accent. I was very impressed with his acting in this movie. Mos Def was also exceptional. S&S was so wonderful, wasn't it? We recently re-watched it. Such an exceptional film! Warmly, Kate
A.J. at J.A.
Galaxy Quest, that is, if you don't mind Tim Allen. Richman is just hysterical in this movie though! :D I agree! I love Alan Rickman and that is one of my favorite movies! I also like him in Rasputin (sp?). Angela
Elinor Everywhere
We love Alan Rickman, too, and his portrayal of Snape in the Harry Potter films is spot-on.
Jenny in Atl
He did an amazing job in Sweeney Todd (not for those who don't like blood), also great in Dogma, and all those above.
Laura Corin
I saw him in Sense and Sensibility a few months ago(yes I am way behind in the movie watching department) and I thouht he was wonderful. He gives an absolutely heartbreaking performance. My claim to fame is having seen him on stage, playing Valmont in Les Liaisons Dangereuses in around 1986/7. Mesmerisingly wicked. Colleen
I'm trying to imagine Alan Rickman doing a Southern accent, though. Hmm... Much as I like Rickman, though, even he couldn't redeem Love, Actually for me. I disliked that movie So Very Much. Shudder.
Lady Katherine
Sense and Sensibility. Yes, you've seen it, but it's good the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th time, too!
j.griff
LOL! :)
Audrey
I would love to find the movie Truly Madly Dearly , but it seems to be impossible to find. Truly, Madly, Deeply is the actual title. Try looking under that? It is my all-time fave Alan Rickman film. Get that movie, a big bowl of chocolate ice cream and an even bigger box of Kleenex. You won't be sorry. 6packofun
I also recommend Something the Lord Made. I ran out and bought this the day after seeing it on HBO! Very good performances by all.
hsmamainva
Snow Cake hasn't been mentioned yet, as not many people have seen it. Alan Rickman stars with Sigorney Weaver. She's an adult autistic and he winds up coming into her life. I won't tell you how, or it will ruin it, but the movie is fascinating....esp. as the parent of two autistic children. Mogster
Another enthusiastic vote for Sense and Sensibility -- I never really noticed or liked him much until I saw that movie. He is also wonderful in the Harry Potter films (I think he is best in The Order of the Pheonix).
Angela in TN
I know :( A lot of people like "Love Actually" I didn't make it past the graphic sex scene in the beginning (it was the filming of a porno film or something.) He was good as the bad guy in Die Hard if you don't mind Action-Adventure. What?! I must've blocked that scene out because I truly don't remember that in Love Actually. That movie had all of my favorite Englishmen though which is way I love it so much! I didn't get to the end of thread yet but Alan Rickman in Sense & Sensibility is wonderful too:D

A male and a female character are body doubles or something for the film industry.

Remudamom
He's a huge favorite around here. He's such a great bad guy, and Colonel Brandon is our hero in S&S.
Laura Corin
Oh! I. Am. Jealous! That must have been ... fun :D He went to drama school in my home town and was acting at one of the local theatres. Laura
