neesek
According to this report, Harvard seniors scored the best of all college students on this history test with a mean score of 69.56%. The average American college senior scored a 54.2% Even with my dismal ps history background, I am happy to say that I scored much better than that. :D Here is the link if you want to try it: http://www.americancivicliteracy.org/resources/quiz.aspx
C_l_e_0..Q_c
Well, I scored low, but this was very very US centric, with many questions where I had no clue! I'm at 56.67%, and happy with the score. After all, I never studied US history.
dorothy
HOMESCHOOLING to thank for that!
Kay in Cal
I got 85%... boy, I bombed that economic section! :tongue_smilie:
Marie in Oh
I guess I am almost as smart as those Harvard types-- not! ;)
angela in ohio
Well, I scored low, but this was very very US centric, with many questions where I had no clue!I'm at 56.67%, and happy with the score. After all, I never studied US history. It was an American Civics test, so that would be the reason for the US centric-ness. ;)
mcconnellboys
Hey, thanks for this, it was fun! I did a lot better on it, than these numbers, too. I was pleasantly surprised!

Jenny in Atl
You answered 46 out of 60 correctly — 76.67 % Wow, I remembered more than I thought I would. Some of those answers were worded in an odd way.

Laurel
46 out of 60 - 76.67% I am not surprised at the ones I got wrong, more surprised at the ones I actually got right...
Michelle in MO
I should have had my economics major husband (undergrad.) help me with that portion. 80% here.
Soph the vet
48 out of 60 correct - 80%. Better than I thought I would do given that I took economics twenty years ago:D. I guessed on most of those questions.
TrixieB
Wow, I scored better than I thought I would. I know I wasn't paying attention in my senior year hs government class... maybe I was just a good guesser today!
neesek
I originally saw the link for the test in an article in USA Weekend about why Americans don't know much about history. The author takes the approach that history, as taught in textbooks and by rote memorization, is boring, but should be taught as stories instead. Sound familiar? Here is the link to the original article if you are interested. http://www.usaweekend.com/08_issues/080413/080413history-quiz.html I think I made some good guesses too.:)
TrixieB
Dh just took the test; he got only one question wrong. Maybe Mr. OurLastName should be the one teaching American history, government, and economics classes at OLN Homeschool! :D

Melinda TX
Guess I'm average here - 57.33% That was quite eye opening, however. How much I didn't know at all!! M
6packofun
Well, I did much better than I thought, partly because I'm an excellent guesser! LOL The economics questions blew me out of the water. A few others I flubbed because the answer seemed too obvious and I just picked something else! This is probably my worst subject but I somehow managed a 73.3%
Aubrey
That was my score too! :) That was fun! What are you, some kind of masechist? I got to Q 45 when I realized: I don't HAVE to do this. This is NOT fun. I QUIT.
pixelroper
78.33-- but I did ask dh about a handful, and a good bunch involved a lucky pick between two of the choices. So I still feel I need a little more work in that department, UGH.
Aubrey
It's the legacy of a misspent youth... we did competitive practice SAT tournaments for family fun... and played cooperative 'let's see how many errors we can find in this letter/newspaper article/etc' games... and the Shakespeare game was always a favorite. Quizzes are fun b/c they make me see all the things I don't know as well as I thought I did - now I have a list of things to review (or learn for the first time - I have never learned more than the tiniest smidgen of economics), and that is exciting. They're like crossword or sudoku puzzles... except they give me an excuse to study something more. Yes, I am *really* not normal, I know... but I have a lot of fun! :) That's ok, dh would say I'm worse...I enjoy those things, too, but only when I'm sick enough to stay in bed. He complains that they hurt his head, especially when he's sick. LOL
Dee in MI
90% - I hope so, considering I just finished Paul Johnson's A History of the American People AND the Daniel Boorstin Americans trilogy. I have Sowell's Basic Economics on the list for this summer. Which is good, because just about everything I missed was economics.
