Country Girl
Any unique ideas to give as baby gifts? We have friends that just had their first baby and I'm trying to come up with a good idea for a gift for them. They are someone we used to be very close to and still have a special connection with but don't see them much now. Therefore, we aren't familiar with their day to day goings on so I don't know what they have or need for this baby. It has also been a few years since I've bought newborn baby stuff and don't know the latest things out there. Any ideas? Thanks!
Corraleno
I always give these gift baskets to new moms, and everyone who's ever gotten one has been thrilled with it! http://www.burtsbees.com/natural-products/baby-mom-moisturizers/bundle-joy-baby-basket.html Jackie
Stacia
Baby sleep sacks. http://www.violetspeapod.com/?m=welcome http://www.babyinabag.com/index.htm http://www.littlebigfoot.com/index.htm I love, love, love them -- used them w/ both of my kids & it is the one item we used daily, year-round. I like the European-style ones; you can get them in heavier or lighter fabrics depending on the weather/season & European-style sacks generally are available in bigger sizes & have a wider variety of prints/designs. If you do get sleep sacks, get one w/ a front zipper all the way from top to bottom, rather than buttons or snaps at the shoulders. The zippers give you easy access for changing diapers, etc.... My go-to new baby gift is now the baby's name customized at Uppercase Living (a vinyl application for the nursery room wall designed to look like hand-painting). Affordable! Basically $1 - $1.50 per letter. Or there are also some baby-themed expressions as well. Very fun, and very well received.
Cera
I like to give a couple of our favorite books for baby and a gift certificate for a massage for mom, a cleaning service or good quality takeout.
ChristusG
These are absolutely adorable. I want an excuse to purchase one LOL. www.zoobies.com . The caterpillar, turtle, and alligator are my faves.
happi duck
We ALWAYS give board books. We choose titles that were the favorites of our own kids. (Moo Baa La La La and Blue Hat Green Hat by S. Boynton are our top two favs.)
Country Girl
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, you have given me some great ideas to go on. Jackie~I love nice body and bath products and a gift basket full of them would definitely be appreciated. Stacia~ I had completely forgotten about the sleep bags. I had 2 winter babies and loved using these. They were a perfect way to keep them warm without worrying about big blankets. Milovaný~ I have a few uppercase living things in my home. This is a neat idea to get a personalized one in the baby's name. Cera and Happi Duck~ I love the book idea but it hadn't even crossed my mind. We have so many wonderful memories of some of our favorite books and it would be fun to pass those on. Christus~ The zoobies are cute! Personally, my favorites are the hippo and the turtle:D. Again, thank you to everyone for helping me think outside the box and suggesting some great gift ideas. Now I just have the problem of trying to narrow it down:D. I'm also going to save this thread for future reference since these really are some unique, wonderful ideas. Thanks!
StaceyinLA
a really nice blanket, and/or a bla bla doll. http://www.blablakids.com I LOVE the bla bla dolls. My grandson has one and he just grabs it and chews on it all the time. They are washable, adorable, unique, and make really neat gifts. Now, someone needs to hurry up and have a baby so I can send one to someone. Or maybe I'll just stock up. (That is probably what is wrong with the economy. I stock up on baby gifts!) I love these dolls.
cougarmom4
One new thing in the baby world is the Carseat Tent...here is a link for a tutorial on how to make one, if you can sew. (I barely sew and I made one within a few hours for a friend last month...it's pretty easy)...and my friend was so excited about it! It's helpful for hot & cold weather. I wish I had had one a few years ago... http://thethriftychick.blogspot.com/2009/07/simple-car-seat-tent-tutorial.html
Parrothead
I like to give piggy banks. There are some really nice ones available.
Lilymax
I just had a baby three months ago (my third) and I have to cast a vote for the sleep sacks. LOVE these! They have some ultra-soft velboa ones at BabiesRUs...I wish they made them in adult sizes! LOL I also love cute burp cloths and you can't have too many of those. Check out http://www.etsy.com for some really great handmade ones.
Country Girl
Stacey~ Those blabla dolls look really cute! Thanks for the link. Cougarmom~ I've never seen the carseat tents but they sound like a great idea. I remember trying to drape a blanket over the car seat but it would fall down or the baby would kick it off. I'm not a great sewer but I think I could do this. Thanks for the suggestion. Parrothead~ Your post reminded me that a piggy bank was always my mom's go to baby gift. I remember some really cute ones she would give. Lilymax~Thanks for the reminder to look on etsy. I'm always awed but the neat stuff they have on there. Thanks for the great ideas and keep them coming.
