rookie
My dd12 would like a pocket knife for Christmas. We've never bought one before - What's a good starter knife and where do we buy it? Oh, and she also wants a nice red bucket about 8 inches wide and 8 1/2 inches tall...............where do I get that? Thanks. hornblower
LOL - has she been reading the Mysterious Benedict Society? for the knife, you really can't go wrong with a Swiss Army knife. Not sure about the bucket....
Old Dominion Heather
No clue on the bucket. I second Hornblower. Swiss Army knives are great. Where are you? You can buy one just about anywhere around here... hardware store, Wal-mart, drug stores, seriously!
SonshineLearner
Leatherman Tools has a nice small one... and one a jump up from that...... http://leathermantool.com/Squirt-Tools.html Very nice... and stronger than a Swiss Army knife:-) There are a few different tools to pick on the knife.... so you get to choose:-) Carrie:-)
rookie
It's the Mysterious Benedict Society Christmas List! She REALLY likes the character in the book. Would Sears carry pocket knives?
Laurie4b
It's the Mysterious Benedict Society Christmas List! She REALLY likes the character in the book. Would Sears carry pocket knives? I know that Walmart does. My ds's love various kinds of penknives!
jensway
A good starter knife would be "Gerber" brand--they have some that are 4" or under. It is just your plain basic general good pocket knife. You can purchase these at Walmart, Target, REI and number of outdoor sports shops. TechWife
Make sure you get one with a locking blade! Reduces injury!
Tap
http://www.redhillgeneralstore.com/solidbuckets.htm for the red bucket Leatherman knives are what I would look at. A knife shop in your town may be a good place to start.
Melissa in Australia
No clue on the bucket. I second Hornblower. Swiss Army knives are great. Where are you? You can buy one just about anywhere around here... hardware store, Wal-mart, drug stores, seriously! :iagree: but check on the local laws about carrying a knife. they have made it illegal to carry a knife here in Australia. I still carry my Swiss army knife in my handbag though. I use it all the time.
plimsoll
Different states have different laws regarding the types of knives and blade lengths permissible. Here's a link to knife laws by state: http://www.thebladeshop.com/State_Knife_Laws_s/478.htm I can't imagine that there would be any problem with either a Swiss Army knife or a Leatherman tool (as long as you don't take it to school or try to board an airplane with it). Susan in KY
DH has had a leatherman for years and years, wears it on his belt everyday, uses it often (last week it was everyday!) and it was a lifetime warranty. Definitely a great investment. However, people at Disney world do not like you bringing them into the park. :-D
amy g.
My 13 year old suggests this knife http://www.buckknives.com/index.cfm?event=product.detail&productID=2937 because it has a lock to keep it from opening in her pocket. You can find a red bucket at tractor Supply.
Arch at Home
I have Buck Knife 425 which I really like. Actually it is my second as I broke the first prying something with it, definitely a no-no.
