KIN
We have Friday night movie night in the fall and winter, and the current movies in my queue look a little... dull. :) We are a family with Mom, Dad, 9yo boy, 7yo boy, 5yo boy and a 2 yo girl that doesn't really watch, but is present. We just watched Anne of Green Gables and loved it. Some of our other faves have been: Spy Kids, Swiss Family Robinson, Ben Hurr, if that is helpful. What movies do you recommend for us? ma23peas
Well, okay, I have to add a caveat, there are scary creatures in it, but our family (10,11, 14 us) love the Dr. Who series...I would start with the 2005 series....it's hokey at first but it gets better each time...as long as they like space aliens, they'll be good...and they're kinda funny, space aliens that can't control their gas...some episodes dealing with history... Any of the Narnia movies... Private Eyes with Don Knotts Escape from Witch Mountain Game Plan (with the Rock) Go to the family section and sort by ratings, I've usually been happy with the higher ranked ones.... HTH! Shelly in the Country
We like anything Muppet related here. (I know my avatar sort of gives that away...) Other movies the kids have liked: Ella Enchanted, Babe, and George of the Jungle. My eldest dd really liked Because of Winn Dixie. The kids also like to watch things on Netflix online. They are especially fond of Kim Possible (DH and I like it, too). We also like Johnny English....there is a bit of potty humor in it, but it's really very funny and still PG. LibraryLover
We've recently enjoyed the first season of Leave It To Beaver. Also: That Darn Cat :D I was appalled at the old That Darn Cat when I rented it for my kids a few years ago. I think they did remake it, but the original has a sadistic scene where two men tie up a woman and threaten to kill her. It's incredibly creepy and horrible. I shut it off immediately and now I warn everyone. And I'm a liberal! ;) It really was a sick scene. BTW, I agree that Homeward Bound is an awesome family movie. You might like Wild America as well. Country Girl
Just to add one I haven't seen here: The Andy Griffith Show. Our family just finished watching the entire series. The kids loved them and are sad now that they are done. We have been looking for new ones to rent on our movie night so this thread is great and giving me some good ideas. Denise in Florida
I tried to remember which movies my girls loved when they were little. Jumanji - Fun, exciting and a good adventure (fantasy type violence such as rampaging rhinoceroses and monkeys) Hocus Pocus - Witches on Halloween. You would have to check the ratings since I do not know what is okay for your kids and what isn't. My youngest wanted to watch Jumanji twice a day when she was 4 years old, some kids find it too scary.

thescrappyhomeschooler
My kids liked Hotel for Dogs a lot, and if I remember correctly, I wasn't bored with it, either. May have had a couple of iffy words, but I don't recall.
