  1. Hi, I do know others from my homeschooling career that had the same thoughts and reasoning and put their kids in either PS or online classes where there was a teacher. That allows you to just be the mom. "Oh ds, I'm sorry the teacher gave so much homework, if you hurry, I think you can get it finished" instead of assigning the work, having them trying to get you to cave in to less, etc. Don't feel lazy, you are not. Do what is best for your family. I'm envious of the good school district and it would have been tempting to me at times!
  2. If it is severe, and dietary restrictions (dairy, sugar, google for others) have not worked, then yes with the understanding that it is a strong drug that needs constant monitoring. We have a friend that had great results for a bad case of acne, but during treatment, it wasn't pleasant. Its been years, but I think skin peeled and was quite sensitive.
  3. Dd and I are newly GF DF and the recipes I've tried so far..... tasted alright, but I wouldn't serve them to guests. The almond flour and coconut flour recipes are heavy, so the cupcakes are more like heavy muffins and don't rise like a fluffy cupcake. I haven't come up with a frosting I really like yet. The closest was coconut oil and honey, but that will quickly liquify if the room is in the 70s... At some point I will experiment with gluten free blends that are straight substitutes for regular flour. Above recipe with spelt flour: the poster posted it for the frosting, but fyi spelt in the cupcake recipe has gluten in it.
  4. SW samples are a pain. You get satin cheap paint, a whole quart..... then you have to sand it before you paint. It.was.awful. We got around 20 samples (trouble picking the color) and then when I thought I had decided, the color was awful on the wall..... but builder thinly painted wall board needed several coats anyway, so nothing was lost. Here is the way we have decided: Start with a can of the lighter, since you will need more than one coat anyway. Then next coat can be the same if you like it, or darker if you want more color. This saves money on samples. Your first sample is very light, the color may not show up much. But still, it would be a good first coat to cover the mauve and give you a much better idea of the color. Also, superpaint flat is awesome, it is not chalky flat, and washes well. Also, it blends well if you need to touch up.
  5. Valium if so terrified it will prevent the draw. I have one that faints....
  6. I vote yes, hold back/repeat grade if it won't hurt their self image. You can frame it positively, then watch for response, the lasting one, not the first reaction. Emphasize how hard it is to feel apart of the group with everyone older. I had to do the same, only said child struggled being young for most of school career, and I held back in high school (really just added a year, very good student, just took a very.long.time to do school work). It was a very good decision, said kid was very happy we did it, it also helped with college readiness.
  7. I just replaced mine, but its Apple. It does look different, but the box said it was for 13" MacBook Pro. It works fine. The other adaptor at the store (Best Buy) was a higher wattage, and was for 15" and 17" screen sizes. While I order online a lot, I got this at a local store so if it wasn't the right one, I could swap it out.
  8. I don't do everyone's laundry together. Ugh. Dh gets his own loads. His stuff can be washed together (white socks move w/white wash rags in that load). He keeps his dirty laundry in the bathroom in its designated spot. Ds has a hamper in hall bathroom and gets his own loads. He has yucky work clothes that need to be washed alone. Most of the time he does them. I steal from his non work clothes if I have room in my load. Dd and I share loads, she has a hamper in hall bath, I have a spot in my closet, for some reason we don't have as many dirty clothes and we share to complete loads. I only gather what I'm washing and take it to the laundry room, off the kitchen. There is room to hang things there, but not to collect extra dirty laundry, and it would stink near where we eat... I wash, dry, fold or hang, then away. Towels are in with dirty clothes, retrieved when the towel load is done, in hamper otherwise. Sheets are taken off of beds, washed, put back on beds. And laundry room is downstairs, bedrooms upstairs. I like it that way, I can cook and handle laundry without having to go upstairs. Also, I do not do laundry every day. I will do 3-4 loads when I have them. And I agree, no nice clothes washed after yucky clothes. I try to do in this order when I wash: 1) dh clothes, some are pretty yucky from yard work 2) dh 2nd load, lights/darks/less dirty 3) towels 4) ladies jeans 5) if room to hang more, I only half dry then hang on racks in room, guys jeans. Then next day after all is dry and put away, 6) dd and my darks then 7) dd and my lights then if all white/lights/towels are dirty, 8) bleach load w/shower curtain, rags, socks. Doing loads belonging to one or two people are much easier to fold and put away. No sorting, they all belong to one person. If I put the guys stuff together, their socks and other items would get mixed up. Dd and my stuff are different enough I know what belongs to who.
  9. Gluten free (no grains) and dairy free work wonders over here. One member t o o t s too much w/grains and dairy, another s t o p s up for a ridiculous amount of time. Eat fruit and veggies, smoothies will solve the braces problem. Spinach hides well in a berry or chocolate smoothie (use honey and bananas to sweeten) and sweet potatoes and avocados go nicely into smoothies as well. Grains are very hard to digest.
  10. Oh and any movies are welcome as well, I'm her movie buddy and I see some mentions of t.v. series/movies above!
  11. Wow, thanks! She read Margaret Atwood's Handmaids Tale in English 102. She says she is interested in Canadian literature that would be like English and American Literature reflecting, its culture, themes, social standards/expectations etc. Wonderful list so far!
  12. Both of my parents are blue eyed, one brown hair, the other dark/dishwater blonde. My sister is very blonde and blue eyed. I am dark/dishwater blonde, blue eyed, AND a leftie. I am the only leftie in my original family. I do some tasks right handed though but am primarily left handed. Dd20 is brown hair and blue eyes (and right handed).
  13. Hi to all especially Canadian boardies! Dd20 was an English major for half of her college career (still loves it) but has changed to an art major (a good move for her). She just told me she has an interest in Canadian novels, and French ones as well (that are of course in English). There are no offerings of these at her college (a wonderful and small local state university). Would you be so kind to share your favorites? (And should I post this on the high school/self education board?) Thanks!
  14. I have this and love it (despised the Oster one), I did get it at BB&B with a 20% off coupon though: http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSB-75BC-2-Speed-Immersion-Blender/dp/B00ARQVM5O/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1410465405&sr=1-1&keywords=immersion+blender Lookie, other attachments! http://www.amazon.com/Cuisinart-CSB-79-200-watt-Immersion-Attachments/dp/B00AN9UJ68/ref=sr_1_2?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1410465405&sr=1-2&keywords=immersion+blender
  15. I would go to your regular doctor for x-rays, then the physical therapy route. I would not aggravate sore/torn muscles and ligaments at a chiropractor. Dh was in a wreck a long time ago, physical therapy helped the pain a lot. Also a pain management doctor was very helpful, a short time with a physical trainer was even recommended near the end of his treatment. And do not close the door to using insurance money for treatment and do wait the time period (I think it was two years) and/or until you are released by your doctor.
  16. Of all your options, I like #4 best. Keep looking at the pictures and see if you warm up to it. What a lovely lot! Also, make a post, or add to this one, to see if it is a good area, what traffic patterns are, etc. #1 small kitchen, nope; #2 power lines, nope, #3 not big enough, nope. Waiting is fine, but if you are like us, you might wish you just settled. I would not like being trapped in a lease, then find a house I want.
  17. How much fat is in her diet? I would be tempted to try smoothies with coconut milk, almond butter, etc. and coconut oil where it can be put in food. If she can have dairy, then butter, cream, cheese. And the fattiest cuts of meat like chuck roast, chicken thighs, more fat in hamburger. And most of all, if you think you need another medical opinion, get it. GL
  18. If you pack the meals, don't forget yourself... I would probably have done that. Our family is grown, but when we had dinner time events, no one ate enough if we ate early, then they wanted another dinner at 9.... Also both of my dc swam, and they were starved afterward. I warmed chicken (whole, cooked, cold) a lot. Also, I don't know if I would send the later one to play on a full stomach. Ouch! So my vote from my experience would be to pack cool snacks, and have something ready or quick cook when you get home.
  19. If I remember correctly, estrogen binds thyroid. That could explain you needing a lower dose after menopause.
  20. YES! Our family of four stayed with a friend, and we brought four air mattresses with us. I don't like sharing one either. I hit the floor when dh gets out and feel like I will be thrown off when he returns. I let him use the queen air mattress, and was happy to use the twin. Question. How do you put sheets on the higher inflatable air mattresses?
  21. We have a fabric top queen air mattress for guests. I put a fluffy comforter between the bottom sheet and the air mattress, that fills in the "holes" and keeps one from getting cold from the air mattress. I've had multiple people say its very comfortable (even my almost 80 y/o mom).
  22. I despise those fluffy then hard underneath mattresses. They crater, you end up lying on the side of a hill. Years ago, I hurt my back, we bought one of "those" mattresses, and then my back did not improve. I moved to an older flip type luxury firm mattress, and my back got better. I went to a mattress store, the sales person said he had his wife spend the night on the bed they thought she wanted. She slept for the first time in a long while, so they bought that mattress. So don't feel weird spending a lot of time on bed(s) you think you want at the store. Also, I found mattress stores were less kind about returns (they will say sleep guarantee, but when you return, you have to get another bed from them for the same or higher price) and reputable department stores are much better with letting you swap out under a sleep guarantee.
  23. No problem! Close quarters are NOT fun. You are wonderful to help them. Try to take care of yourself when you can.
  24. Are you watching gd while dd works? Make sure dd takes most of the responsibility for her dd, as much as she can, and that she helps you around the house. 11th grade (have done twice myself) is getting into some hard stuff, I see the chemistry and geometry.... my two most disliked subjects to do all in one year! Your ds is #1 priority so he is ready for college. My vote goes to the toddler draining you (even though they are so adorable at that stage, they are tornadoes!). Maybe you or your dd can enforce a bedtime for gd on the early side so all of you get a breather. GL
