  1. Fifteen minute walk in gorgeous weather. With sun! There are signs here and there of the approaching autumn, and while I love soup and layering clothes, the sun also tends to layer up behind clouds in the fall around here, so I need to mentally stock up on and truly appreciate the sunny days we are given from here on out.
  2. The kids went to soccer this morning, so I spent 10 minutes walking around the fields. Tomorrow, I can bump it up to 15 minutes. Woo-hoo!
  3. @Laura Corin Hope that rest is all you need and that you recover quickly.
  4. I didn't happen to see a thread for September yet, but wanted to post. It has been a beautiful day here with sunshine and the temperature is at 72 degrees. Perfect, as far as I'm concerned. Did a 10 minute walk with no issues. I am looking forward to getting back to 30 minutes sometime next week.
  5. Put in my 5-minute walk. I think I am just fine to increase it to 10 minutes tomorrow.
  6. I know how you feel. We have had very bad luck with getting sick during the holidays ever since the pandemic.
  7. They will absolutely accept a slower pace. All I need to do is let one of the teachers know, and it will filter to the others. I did some research into the philosophy behind TKD, and it has a built-in emphasis about meeting people where they are and accepting that not everybody can do all the things. Dd13 is far from being naturally coordinated. But they guided her and accepted her differences in timing - she used to be the last person to finish every time they did patterns in unison, sometimes by what felt like half a minute. They are totally fine with whatever you can do, as long as you are putting in effort. On the other hand, they can have firm words for those who don't put in any effort. I think it is a great dojo.
  8. I had a mastectomy, so my reason now is so I'm not lop-sided. But I would prefer to go without.
  9. So, Covid had me in bed for 5 days. I was pretty tired for the next few days thereafter. I'm still kind of tired today, but more or less normal. As such, I went for a 5 minute walk today to see how I hold up with that. It was fine. I'll probably walk just 5 minutes for the next day or two, and gradually increase it. That's what my doctor told me to do when I got it last year, anyway. It seems like I have had so many set backs over the past year in trying to maintain a bare minimum fitness level. But I tell myself it is not how many times I get knocked down, it is how many times I get back up. My plan for the future is to join my family in Tae Kwon Do. Dd13 is a black belt. Dh and the other two kids have been taking classes for the past year or two. I am the only one who is not doing it, and I have started experiencing FOMO at belt testings. Classes start next week. The chemo pills will affect the amount of intensity I can manage, but the first few levels aren't super intense. Right now, as an observer, I am more intrigued by the patterns rather than the self-defense or sparring.
  10. It seems unlikely your dh would have been paid. It was probably more intended as a guilt trip because his leaving means it will cost the church money for what he did for free. And, as you say, they are struggling.
  11. I will probably not be posting this week, as I have Covid. The good news is the Paxlovid seems to be working and I was able to sit up for a whole hour and a half this morning.
  12. When I was in high school, they had this rule. I was in marching band one year and hated every minute. The uniforms had double-breasted jackets, made of double knit polyester, clearly designed by a sadist. So fun in 90 degree weather! I am slightly bow-legged and was ordered to have my knees touch each other. I enjoyed concert band, but quit because marching band was so awful.
  13. Tired again today. Probably from deep cleaning the bathroom floor. It does look nice, though. Walked one mile, and didn't really care how fast I went.
  14. I was in 6th grade when our class watched the Challenger explode.
  15. This. I remember being 16, and I was in Sunday school. The woman leading the group asked us what goals we had. My friend and I told her we didn't have any, and she was just all aghast, and out loud wondered how on earth we could go through life without any goals. I'm not sure that we had all that much respect for her before, but that comment did not improve it.
  16. On Thursday, I had a post-evaluation from the exercise class at the cancer center. The initial evaluation was in October, while I was doing chemo. I went from below-average fitness to average, for whatever that's worth. But she had me on the treadmill for 20min, gradually bumping me up to 3.5mph at an incline of 8, so I did something that day. Last night, dh and I walked around the cemetery for an hour or so.
  17. There's an old New Yorker cartoon this reminds me of. There are two couples that have spent an evening together and now they are are saying goodbye and hugging. And the caption reads something like, "I miss shaking hands."
  18. I rang the bell after chemo. And a few months later, I rang the bell after radiation.
  19. I was really tired yesterday, but walked a mile. Today, I walked 1.3 miles.
  20. I wonder if it would work for lesser known things. I have a CD from a local funk band I bought in the 90's and they are not on Spotify, and I doubt it is on anyone's radar. It would be nice to listen to it again, but we don't have a CD player.
  21. We used to have the best mail carrier on the planet. He did the rubberband thing, and wrapped packages with the regular mail so we didn't have to walk down the long driveway. It was always here by 11:30am. Then he got a better route because the last stops on ours is in a rough neighborhood. We got a new carrier, and never knew when it would show up. Maybe not until 6pm. And then two winters ago, she refused to deliver mail to our mailbox because it wasn't shoveled out to her liking. She refused to deliver packages because our driveway was too slippery. We talked to the post master, and she said that it's illegal for them to deliver mail to a house unless you have a circular driveway. We went back and forth with them a few times. Once the driver came up the driveway when it was a little icy (though we had salted it) and snowy and gunned it like a bat out of hell in order to prove how dangerous our driveway was. We ended up picking up our mail at the post office a few miles away because it was a big headache. Last winter we had no problems. Mail is usually delivered by 3-3:30. I still miss our old carrier.
  22. I have heard of homeschool moms that make a photocopy of the spines of all the books they return, in order to avoid such accusations. Which I can understand if you have to deal with librarians who are more interested in keeping the rules than keeping their patrons happy.
  23. I ❤️ my OBGYN. I asked her if she knew anybody who would be a good fit. She recommended an excellent provider. Not a doctor, but a nurse practitioner. I usually like them better than doctors, anyway. My experience is that they are much more helpful.
