  1. I know two older gentlemen in their 70s. One always refers to his dad as "Father," both when addressing him and referring to him. The other has his grandkids refer to him as "Grandfather," but knowing his personality, I would expect nothing less.
  2. Dd13 still says Mama and Dada, and she is more emotionally mature than some senior citizens I know.
  3. I used this recipe from Dr. Axe when I was doing keto for awhile. I thought it was pretty good. 2 tsp dried sage 2 tsp salt 1/2 tsp ground black pepper 1/2 tsp red pepper flakes 1/4 tsp garlic powder 1 pound meat
  4. In our house, I would look in dh's office, where I would also find all the missing bowls.
  5. Did a 15 minute walk, followed by a 20 minute stretch routine. Looking forward to a rest day tomorrow.
  6. 20 minute walk, followed by almost 20 minutes of stretching. Also, got in some TKD pattern practice. I can grab any person in my household to watch me do it and make sure I get it right. Compared to the other students in the beginner class, it's almost like an unfair advantage.
  7. "School district Superintendent Martinrex Kedziora said in a letter to parents Wednesday that the district has made several changes regarding anti-bullying since Diego's death. Some of the changes include "a district-wide centralized online bullying form" and classroom posters that define bullying and how to report bullying, Kedziora said." They are going to fix this with an online form and posters? Give me a break.
  8. Dh gets many supplements from bulksupplements.com. Their stuff is independently tested by a third party. So they won't sell you kitty litter and tell you it's a supplement. Sometimes items are not available because they can't get ingredients (for lack of a better word) that meet their standards.
  9. I know a previous poster mentioned that beans might not be ok. My gall bladder was taken out almost 20 years ago, so I don't remember all the specific dietary details, aside from avoiding fat. If beans are ok, this is a stupid easy recipe, which is pretty tasty: https://www.allrecipes.com/recipe/14021/grandmas-slow-cooker-vegetarian-chili/
  10. Not recently, but "Stop licking the window," is something I have had to say in the past. More than once.
  11. This is what we have, too. The ice maker is in the bottom freezer, not on the door. We've had it about a year, I think. I like it.
  12. Just walked 20 minutes yesterday, BUT...since it was rainy all afternoon, I did it on the treadmill, and pushed myself a lot harder than when I'm outside, so I think that makes up for spending a little less time. TKD class this evening, with dd13 leading warm-ups. I have to say, "Yes, ma'am" to all her directives in class, which I think she gets a small enjoyment out of.
  13. I got a rice cooker from Amazon years ago. Best $30 I ever spent. Because for some reason, I can't make rice on the stove.
  14. Good Lord, no. Eating high fat with gall bladder issues has the potential to put her in so much pain. Like fetal position, excruciating pain.
  15. I saw you made a note about no coffee or Pepsi, but if she has those, I don't think it will aggravate the gallbladder. Not sure how the caffeine might set after a liquid diet, though.
  16. I think it's worth a try. When I had gallbladder issues, Jello wouldn't have been a problem. It seems like it would also work with being relatively easy on the stomach.
  17. Jello cups come without cool whip. Might help avoid that particular issue.
  18. Just finished a 25-minute walk. I went a little bit faster than last time, but my maximum heart rate was lower, so that is progress. I finished up with some stretching we did at TKD.
  19. Just finished my 20-minute walk before the rain started. I'm getting a little bit faster, despite my legs being a little sore from all the kicking at TKD yesterday. Did some stretching right after my walk. At TKD, there's a bulletin board of the "Split Club" with photos of all the students who can do a split. Perhaps some day, my picture will be on the board, too.
  20. First class of Tae Kwon Do. My whole family attended with me, even though they are all above the beginner level. It was fun. I'm kind of tired now, and will have to see how I hold up tomorrow. I also had an appointment with my oncologist today. The chemo pills are causing considerable fatigue. I have just about enough energy to do school with the kids and fix dinner. Mostly. So dh and I have been discussing how worthwhile it is to feel like garbage for another 20 months. And it turns out that without doing chemo pills, there's a 30% chance of cancer coming back in the next 5 years. The doctor feels this treatment will be a significant improvement to that possibility of recurrence, though she didn't give specific numbers. Some patients start to feel less tired after being on it for 3 months, so it's something to revisit in December. If I'm still super fatigued, the dose can be lowered again. Bleah. I'm tired of being tired.
  21. My dad went to college in the 60's. He hated PE (esp. as an art student), but it was a required class. He faked not knowing how to swim, and made tremendous improvement in swimming one semester. 🤣
  22. Took my 20 minute walk shortly before sunset, as we had a heat advisory today. Tomorrow is my first Tae Kwon Do class. I know it will be fine, but I am still a little bit nervous. When I was in high school, I utterly despised sports (because that was the cool thing to do), and I never had any desire to exercise until my 30's when the baby weight did not come off so fast, and I did a few 5k's. So my body has virtually no memory of being active. I've tried to read and follow a few exercise books, and it just takes a lot of brain power for me to translate those directions into body movements, if that makes any sense. I have some innate flexibility (though not as much as I used to), but at the same time, I am not exactly highly coordinated.
  23. @BakersDozen, I sympathize with you. My mother used to live 10 minutes away from us. At the age of 65, she moved an hour away to a city where she doesn't really know anybody (excepting one friend she knew in high school.) And she was going to enjoy all the opportunities that location afforded, which hasn't really panned out. Also, she insisted on buying a house where there is no bathroom on the main floor, which still just boggles my mind. We see her a lot less than we used to, and that is largely her choice.
  24. Completed my second 15-minute walk. Very hot and sticky. Looking forward to 20 minutes tomorrow.
