  1. I'm back! I survived! I need a cookie!! I wish I had read Nan's advice before I lost my hat, almost lost my prescription sunglasses and had to swim 200 feet trying to catch the sailboat. Hey -- I understand most of what Nan said. Yeah me!! I want to do it again!!! I did learn how to duck (pretty darned fast I might add). I kept a watchful eye on the sky (it's a good thing too because a bad storm rolled in). But best of all I learned how to dive in 6 feet of murky, gooey disgusting ramp water to try to find the rudder that sank to the bottom when the wind gusted and tipped the sailboat over before we could get it loaded onto the trailer, all while watching the lightening close in. I did find it though so all's well. Did I mention that I would love to do it again? For a longer period of time?
  2. Our family has 1 cat, 1 dog and 1 gecko. We have had up to 6 animals at one time (1 quarter horse, 1 mini horse, 2 cats, 1 dog and a guinea pig). I (as the introvert) can say without a doubt that I tend to become more deeply attached to our animals than everyone else. I always have.
  3. If a nice Penguin had made a batch of these I might be tempted to take 5-6-7-8 with me!!
  4. Nope - no cookies. That wouldn't be fitting in with my goal of losing 15 pounds. I have packed a healthy, low-fat, low cal, high fiber lunch. For my treat I tucked in a little piece of Funny Cake my DD made using a recipe from her 4H cookbook. Anyway, wasn't there a recent thread about how Chips Ahoy didn't count as real cookies?
  5. As a family we buy premade food about once a week. It is mostly Subway sandwiches ordered as take out or Little Caesars brough home. The kids like it when their friends are over and they want something quick before they run off. It is a rare occassion to have pizza delivered. I make great homemade pizza and my family prefers my cooking to delivery. (Wow - that makes me feel good!) We rarely go to a sit down restaurant. If/when we do it is usually on Mother's Day, Father's Day or a special occassion. Even then we dine inexpensively - maybe $30-40 for the four of us. We rarely order appetizers or dessert. We usually order water, never alcohol. A 'special' restaurant for us would be Olive Garden or Buffalo Wild Wings.
  6. I am learning how to sail a small sailboat today. The wind and weather are perfect. I am excited!!!
  7. Congratulations! Please let us know when you about the results!
  8. :iagree: I want to know what a jack-slap is, too. I always thought it was smacking someone on the side of the head.
  9. Thank goodness you weren't hit. I can imagine how frightened you were. Do you get to go shopping for a new fan?
  10. I am right there with you. Medical bills and financial trouble often go hand in hand. I will pray.
  11. You already have the answers to your questions but I want to add that I love Dave Ramsey's plan. DH and I are debt free and working on Baby Step 3. I want/need/want a new car but we keep reminding ourselves what it took to become debt free. It's rough but it's worth it.
  12. I do!! I have a brain model that I use for my classes. I got to school the other day, opened my bag and said "Aw, man, I left my brain at home." Not the thing to say in front of 19 college students. --- I am so sorry she said that to you. How rude!!
  13. I recently joined Facebook and actually took some time today to start searching for people. I found a bunch of my high school friends, including the page for my biggest crush. I dated this guy briefly and never really forgot about him. I should have stopped there but no I went through his page and discovered all kinds of neat things about him. What a guy! Shame on me. Facebook is bad, very bad....but oh so good.
  14. I haven't ordered anything from RR and don't have any plans to order anything. I have never seen their catalog, either. I think I may have looked at their website. I did see a RR caravan on the highway the other day. Three big trucks hauling trailers. They must have been on their way to a convention.
  15. We used Vol. 1 this year and enjoyed it. We are planning on using Vol. 2 next year. I am beginning my preliminary supplement search this week. I think the general consensus is that both volumes need to be used in order to equal a full high school credit. Many people use Vol. 1 during the first semester and Vol. 2 during the second. The author gives suggestions on books to read and activities to do to increase the cope and depth for high school students.
  16. What a cutie! Pretty girl, talented mom - I bet you have a lot of pictures in your house.
  17. Are you going to make that for me? You are such a sweetie!
  18. Number 1 is correct. A group was walking. of men - is the prep. phrase and the verb should not agree with the prep. phrase but the subject which is 'group'. I have never heard of the word 'group' used as a plural subject. Groups is plural. A group was walking The groups were walking. I liken it to the word herd. The herd of bison was running. The herds of bison were running
  19. I do. ETA: I wanted to be in the FBI when I was younger so I learned how to handle and shoot hand guns. I used to be pretty darned good at it. Now I mostly shoot smaller caliber guns or air rifles. My DH and DS shoot every week. DS is awesome and I hope we can register him in competitive shoots soon. He is doing shooting in 4H and will be taking the shotting sports merit badges for Boy Scouts this summer.
  20. :iagree: (can't find a picture with a toast, peanut butter and egg sandwich) Oh yeah ... I think I have mellowed but I need a little more tweaking in that department (especially when it comes to bathing suits and teenage girls - at least according to my DD (but that's another thread)).
  21. Could it be from smiling every time you see your AGA?
