  1. The turtle has been released. DS has his doubts about the pond, though. There were catfish traps on the water and he isn't sure the turtle will leave the bait alone. I figure the turtle has a better chance of survival there than if he had stayed on the road.
  2. Well, thank you. The posted speed limit is only 35mph but...well, you know how it is when there is a straight road, no speed bumps and no police. My trip is 4.4 miles each way. I love it, though. There are mulberry trees along the way and the mulberries are yummy.
  3. If this is the local council camp it has nothing to do with the pack. This is higher up than that. In our district Tigers are required to have parents with them. It's a BSA rule. Wolves, on the other, hand do not. And yes, the ranks change at the end of the school year. I would still send my son to camp and just follow him around no matter what anyone said.
  4. Thanks for the support but in this case I moved it first and asked questions later. I hate to think of what could have happened to it once classes were dismissed and the students hightailed it down that road. I bike that road and I have to be careful because the students speed without regard for anything.
  5. The shell is 10.5 inches long and 88 inches wide. He has been walking under the hostas in the backyard. DS identified it as a red eared slider. I found it on a frontage road about 25 yards off the highway. There is a pond about 1/4 mile down the road from the spot where I found so that is where DS and I are taking it. I hope it stays away from the roads. There are lots of people in our area who enjoy turtle soup.
  6. I'm in IL. I called the IDNR and asked what the law is. The receptionist did not know and the forestry office is closed. I am looking on the website and the only information I can find is related to the Box turtle.
  7. Well - I could have done that but it was pointed in the direction of the road and not a particular side. I could have flipped a coin or done eeny meeny miney mo.
  8. Why does it need to be relocated? I guess it doesn't need to be but I thought leaving it in the middle of the road where people were driving 60mph was wrong.
  9. A huge turtle. It was sitting in the middle of the road. I was riding my bike so I was able to stop and scoop it into my basket. I stopped by the tennis courts where DD is teaching and showed it to the lesson kids. DS and I are going to take it to a farm pond and release it later this afternoon. How exciting for me!!!
  10. From the left: Radiobrain, CynthiaOK, TDA, MariannNova, Swimmermom, who's in the back??
  11. Not saying anything - not saying anything - Scarlett - I am happy that you are getting ready to sew the quilt. I can't wait to see pics of the completed project. If you need any more squares let me know and I can send one, too.
  12. Phys.science was fun. The topics lend themselves to neat ideas, activities and experiences.
  13. I'm the one on the roof. Thank goodness I was able to wear sneakers, climbing on top of an SUV in heels stinks. I'm not sure they took the picture as a favor, more like evidence. Our skirt length is slightly inappropriate for most homeschool conventions. It took us a long time to come up with our logo: FIAT - First in Academic Talent
  14. Not embarassing but painful. Slap on some salve and you'll be good to go.
  15. So the financing is on $160,000 and the income is only $54K a year. What kind of terms are the loans? What about taxes and other escrow items?
  16. I thought you were going to confess some equestrian goof - like putting the saddle on backwards. Buffy! Bah!!
  17. With all of the exceptional planning you have done I don't see how they could anything but learn and enjoy. After reading through your schedule I want to come to your house and study Biology. Your intro. letter made me cry (twice). I have been composing a letter to give to my DD who is a rising senior in public school. My attempts thus far fall short of the sentiments in the letter to your boys.
  18. KUP on the job interviews, please. I feel like I am watching the tennis match all over again SF-Chicago-SF-Chicago-SF-Chicago I can't keep up.
